CSU not ****ing around for once...McElwain expected to be announced as thier coach

I honestly don't think you have a financial concept of this scale. We are talking about a quarter of a BILLION dollars. $100 Million won't even be close. We throw these number around on the message board, but the simple reality is staggering. They won't get into the Big 12 because nobody in the Big 12 is interested in them.

lol - I don't have a conception of this? I've been following it closely and talking with people who donate. Pat Stryker hasn't even jumped into this yet. She could pay the remaining cash for the stadium herself.

Remember that alignment is about money, and the Big12 will probably want to reacquire the Denver market.... if not them, then some conference is going to want the Denver market. Let's also not forget that CSU's new AD is buddy buddy with the commish of the Big12.

Stryker is worth probably tops 1.5 Billion. She can write the check, but that will take a massive bite out of her ass-ets, won't happen.

Do you remember realignment? How many times was CSU and the Denver market talked about by any conference in the latest round? Yeah, I thought so. Try again.

Stadium costs would probably in the $120 million range if they went with a not too extravagant route. Tulane is estimating a 30,000 seat stadium on campus to be about $60 million. Minnesota built their stadium for $288 million but I think they had more to work with. Utah built their stadium for $27 million in 98 (holds 45,000).

CSU to the Big Tex conference makes perfect sense. A school that would be a consistent cellar dweller and would have no problems kneeling to DeLoss Dodds whenever he asks.

CSU is a peer institution with many of the Universities in the Big 12 and with access to a large population of alumni living and working in the Denver metro. If CSU can get its facilities up to par, there is no reason it can't be part of the discussion when the time comes for the Big 12 to expand again. If you don't see the potential of the state's landgrant University with an expected undergraduate population of 30,000+, and located in one of the country's fastest growing regions (i.e. Northern Colorado) - then you are intentionally not looking very hard.

I think they are looking at between $150-160MM at CSU.

I am looking at a CSU fan base that cannot get more than about 11,000 people in Mile High against what is suppose to be one of their most hate rivals - so that Metro Area fan base is NOT engaged with CSU football. Ditto for attendance in Ft. Collins. It not just about population numbers it is also about Market Penetration of which CSU has zilch. CSU fans have to start supporting their sports otherwise this is just talk.

As we have talked about ad-naseum on this board, I totally agree that CSU's fans need to re-engage. There was a time not that long ago that CSU was selling 30,000 tickets to Mile High and averaging the same in attendance at home. CSU needs to get back to that status and very quickly.

Holy ****! 30,000! You'd still be in last in the Big 12 by ~15K!

That is pretty funny coming from a married guy.

Yeah, but Wally married UP.

How many households can CSU deliver at the top of their game?

Doesn't change the fact that CSU was NEVER mentioned in expansion talks. Let's look at the REALITY of the situation, not the hot air that is being produce currently. CSU is the poorest AD in the MW. You are becoming a constant cellar dweller in a dying conference. You are in a dying conference. You are coming off of record attendance lows. You have no significant winning tradition. Your great Denver alumni don't even go to see CSU when the game is in Denver against the most hated rival. There are no guarantees that the Big 12 is even looking to expand. The Big 12 has numerous more attractive schools to look at, Louisville, Cincinnati, BYU, Air Force, Southern Miss, Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Nevada, New Mexico, and so on.

Your school fires another failed coach, decides to talk big and all of the sudden all of these realities I mentioned don't matter? Do you not see a major disconnect between what is being said and what is? If not, well have fun in fantasy land...at least until football season comes around again and reality settles back in.

I am not sure, that would actually be an interesting analysis. I have seen estimates of 50,000+ alumni in Denver which I believe is similar if not larger than CU. Short answer, I really don't know.

Yes - we all know you are desperate to see CSU fail. We get it.

I think CC understands a lot of this but what else is he going to do? Should he just say "**** it, we will never compete for ****?"

CC is one of the few reasonable CSU fans I've met. I still don't see a lot of what is being reported by lambnation ever happening but I don't fault them for dreaming.

I wish our AD gave us a reason to hope. I thought by now we would have some plans on the table with the Pac money coming soon. I'm not even sure we will have new video boards at this point. Arrgghhhh

It doesn't matter that CSU was not mentioned in past expansion talks. What matters is their future. They are apparently raising and spending a lot of coin to become competitive. They are doing (or attempting to do) what needs to be done to be in the expansion discussion. There are no guarantees, but they have decided they will do everything they can to be included.

Furthermore, there are a lot of fair weather fans in the Denver area. If CSU starts playing good football their attendance will improve and they can reasonably claim a share of the Denver market.

They are showing more commitment to their football program than we have shown in a long time. It is good for both CSU and CU since it puts more pressure on CU to act now.

The truth hurts sorry. Am I wrong? Every point I make in that post is valid. I will be the first to shut up when CSU walks the walk. All of this has been stirred by nothing more than talk by your AD and Prez. Everybody can and does talk about their great plan, blah blah. I want results. They would have been better served to DO something about an on campus stadium and have ACTUAL significant financial resources committed before opening their mouths.

I actually hope CSU gets a good product on the field. The whole state is a joke right now in college football.

Remember when we were all running around with our hair on fire because Baylor was going to take our spot? Our school calmly and quietly took care of business, instead waging a stupid media war, and doubled our TV revenue and secured our spot at the big kids table exactly where we wanted to be in a Pac 12 South division with access to SoCal. This was during a time when the stakes were beyond high. I'll give them some benefit of the doubt that other great things are in the works, but they will announce them when it is actually appropriate.

It isn't just hot-air from CSU's AD. They're paying a new coach $1.5MM a year, they bought out their AD and former HC to get this done. The cash is coming from somewhere, and CSU has a big enough alumni base in Denver to grow with some success.

I don't know if they fill a 40 - 50k stadium, but if they can turn-around the product and start drawing interest, then they could be in position to make a move in 5 years. They are at least showing a commitment to getting it done, and they are already shelling out cash. I think the stadium will happen, a B12 or other conference invite could happen if they show improved attendance (not sure will happen) and improved on-field performance.

Your fans trash cu at every turn. I bet you sit around just wanting CU to be great right?

Build your 50k stadium and watch your program go bankrupt with 20,000 empty seats.

The funny part is csu fans trying so hard to make us believe they will be in the big 12.

CU needs to worry about CU and the PAC12, could care less what happens to csu.

What does CSU gain by waiting? They are laying out their goals and apparently have a good start at raising the money to reach those goals. They need to make sure people know they are trying. They need to get good press out there on their program. I would imagine McElwain was more attracted to CSU when he heard about their ambitions and increased support for the program. Not to mention the fact they are paying him a salary far in excess of our own coach. You have got to give them some credit that they are making a strong effort.

BTW Baylor was never going to take our spot. We were the only school included in every expansion scenario. All we had to do was say "yes".

The notion that this will force benson and our so-called big donors(if there are any) to pony up $$$$ and make a bigger commitment to cu football is laughable. They don't care. They got us into the pac 12 , all the talk from benson is just talk.

I tend to agree with you. It's seems to be nothing but hot air from Benson.

I've gone on record already saying they had a good hire. CSU has put their money where their mouth is in the coaching search. The stadium is nothing more than hot air at this point, and anybody here who says otherwise better show facts about it being legit or stfu.

Personally, I think Bohn is a nitwit and Benson does not give a ****. He'd use the $$ for other purposes in a heartbeat and probably will. You think that Benson give a damn about the PAC arms race? I'm sure he has no idea nor does he care what our competition is doing.

The university gets tons of money, benson would find a loophole to give cu
's football program 5% of any donation and the rest to research of the migration of sea turtles.
