2009, when Bohn got shot down, McElwein was his guy. He was also interviewed last year, but Bohn basically bowed to outside pressure in hiring Embree. He wanted McE first and foremost.

Interesting. I didn't realize that. I would think that after spending that much time with Saban the guy will be organized and prepared. I am cautiously optimistic this could be a great fit for CSU. He won't have to totally revamp the roster to fit his system and it looks like he will have capable RBs and QBs to work with. I am impressed with Graham so far. A practical and exciting hire.

Seems to bring that notion of a conference upgrade closer to reality. New AD. New Stadium. Biggest Name coach hire since they brought in Sonny from Da U. They will go after all the same in state athletes that we do with this hire.
Did this take less than 2 weeks? Sure seems like none of our hires were that fast. Wonder if their new AD hired a search consultant? Or formed a committee to study fit and feasibility? :rolling_eyes:

Yes it is. CSU is either going all in right now or someone knows something that I don't. That is an incredible investment.
Solid hire. CSU is banking EVERYTHING on him. They are shooting for the moon financially. If it fails they are ****ed. If it succeeds, he will leave for a real opening, and they are ****ed.

This to me is the biggest indication that there might be some smoke to a few Big East realignment rumors involving CSU that I have seen.
i think it is an excellent hire--- i think the guy is a good coach and he's certainly a big name. csu did well with this. i do wonder how the economics work, unless they manage to find their way out of non-bcs wilderness. with utah, tcu, and bsu all landing in bcs conferences, the ability of their former conference-mates to upgrade their leagues to bcs status has gottne much worse.

Embree signed a five-year contract in 2011 starting at $725,000 annually plus incentives. The guaranteed portion is $250,000 base, $200,000 media, $200,000 sponsorship, and $75,000 for football camps. Bonuses are for team development (on and off-field) and team performance. If fired in 2011, Embree will be paid $750,000; $500,000 if terminated in 2012; and $250,000 if terminated in 2013. CU will give no money if fired in 2014 or 2015. [SUP][1][/SUP]

if you count the incentive based pay, it goes in the neighborhood of 1.5mm, right ? not saying it is apples to apples but you do have to look at the whole comp package, i think.

Both the Buffzone and Wikipedia seem to suggest we pay our coach half of that. I cant see how he got any of his bonuses this year if they go beyond whats described. So I think he made $750k. I'll be curious to see if how much McE gets in guaranteed money. Maybe we didn't hire him because his demands were too high.
Seemingly another affirmation that CU is financially in poor shape.

Nah. Just having fun. In all honesty this is absolutely a shoot for the moon hire though. I don't know where they are getting the money, because like somebody pointed out this is more than they make in TV revenue, and they had to have promised him a decent ass coach salary pool...at least if he is smart. I would like to see how much they are drawing from donations, my tax dollars, etc. If he fails there, they are in BIG trouble.
