Colorado finished the 2016 season with a 10-4 record, ranked as the No. 17 team in the country.
Ever since the final polls came out, however, prognosticators have gone out of their way to find ways to knock the Buffs out of the Top 25. Yes, CU does lose eight defensive starters. Yes, the Buffs did lose their defensive coordinator to the first $1 million assistant paycheck in Pac-12 history.
Other teams in the Top 25 lost a ton of talent. Other teams in the Top 25 lost coaches.
But CU hasn’t been in the Top 25 in a decade. Recency bias works against a team which has been foreign to the upper echelon in recent years.
Try not to take it personally.
Hopefully, the 2017 Buffs will use the slights as motivation to get back into the rankings …
