CU Coaching & Support Staff Moves

This would have been a disaster before then
Just shows the change in perspective that Prime has brought. Hawkins went from being pretty much the only bright spot to a guy that we would rather keep but won't pull hairs out over him leaving. I have zero doubt that Prime will find someone on staff or bring someone in that can fill that California role Hawkins held.

So I was curious as to why I hadn't seen any of the assistant's contracts come up for approval on the regents meetings, so I tweeted Brian and Adam and Brian responded that the regents no longer have to approve contracts that are for less than $1M per year, so Lewis and Kelly are both under that level, which was a surprise given that the budget is $5M per year. I would have figure at least one of them would be at the $1M+ level.

$999,999.99 is under $1 million!

Alright, I’ll be the one to say it: this gives me all the gross feels. I don’t care how long he’s been around the sport, and I don’t care that his quarterbacks were Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater, his most recent offense was absolutely putrid.

I’m glad he’s just an analyst and doesn’t have any actual control over the team, otherwise he’d probably have the starting offense running “intentional incompletion drills” and running the same &$@%ing fake end around motion every goddamn play.

In conclusion, Shurmur sucks, but he’s surrounded by people who don’t suck at all so I’m imagining his presence thankfully won’t matter much.

It’s an analyst position. He’s going to help breakdown film, scout opponents 2-3 weeks out, create game plans, identify weaknesses, personnel packages, etc. He’s not calling plays, talking to the players or coaching QBs. And no, @ahoelsken i don’t have any clue what his contract situation is/was with the Broncos

Exactly. Sometimes they will work with players on technique and film review, as I understand it. But it's mostly getting a high level guy in the room to "analyze" and give insights on your own team's performance and notes from opponent film review. Can also do some consigliere stuff for HC or Coordinator.

In the past, CU was pretty much having grad assistant types do this. We got a son of a great NFL DC who has spent decades in the NFL - rising to OC and HC levels in the League.

But I see comments on Twitter hating on this hire because the Broncos offense sucked. 😂

Thanks.
