He’s just bitter. I actually do like IPAs when I’m with my buds.

This.

My running theory is that nobody in the world actually likes IPAs. It just became a trend and no one wanted to stand up and admit that they taste like ass. So now all these IPA drinkers are force feeding themselves ****ty beer because of their ego
I really enjoy strong bold flavors in my food and beverages. My favorite beers are strong stouts and porters. My favorite liquors are heavily peated Scotch whiskys.

I hate IPAs.

I couldn't disagree with this more (sorry, my friend!)
  • Anyone over the age of 30 drinking something because of the impression it makes on others has serious problems
  • Sour beers were the next big trend after IPAs. I hate sour beers.
  • I've always favored savory over sweet in food/drink and IPA's become popular was a godsend for me.
  • That being said, there was a trend there for a while where the thought for new brewers was "well, if some hoppiness is good, a lot of hoppiness must be great!". I've had microbrewery IPAs that were so hoppy I felt like I should have been given a knife and fork to help me chew through it.
  • Over time, I've learned I prefer hazy IPAs over west coast IPAs because they are hoppier than non-IPAs but not as hoppy/bitter as regular IPAs.
My current favorites are Flatiron Fog from 4 Noses and Mind Haze from Firestone Walker, that has better but not fully saturated, distribution in liquor stores.

IPAs have the flavor profile of what, when I was young, we ripped on as bitter or skunked beer. In other words, undrinkable crap. I think it got popular among young people who liked the bang for their buck when drinking beer to get drunk: high ABV and not as heavy or filling as a dark beer.

I loved IPA's when they were first getting big about 12 or so years ago but then around 4-5 years ago I lost my taste for them and can't even drink one. I might have a light one like a hazy once in a while but that's about it. I really liked NB Citradellic but those ****ers stopped making it so now I don't buy anything from them at all.
