CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

Special Board of Regents Meeting

Who knows... but something to keep an eye out for.

From what I saw yesterday from Canzano the debate to expand is between more CFP revenue (stay at 10) vs more media revenue (expand to 12 or more).

I think they need more media revenue and I don’t think it hurts any existing teams chances to make the CFP if they do expand as those teams will struggle as they ramp up (easy wins).

And then there is another shakeup on the pacs board of directors.

Stanfords president is now forced to resign. Ba boom...tish.

Hmm...maybe one less no vote for the likes of Boise State if they apply for P12 membership. Other than that, nothingburger.

I disagree because of the CFP, the Portal, and look at NU.

The CFP is one major item to consider for the future of CU football.

The Big 12 might not have the prestige that the Pac-12 has but there is no shortage of B12 teams that has had success in football recently. The B12 is probably going to knock itself out of CFP contention more often than not which is something we have had to deal with the P12. I think we will see less of that in the P12 after USC & UCLA leaves for the B1G. I'm way more concerned with that than how much money CU will be getting from a media rights deal.

BTW due to whatever the Open Meetings Act is called in Colorado you need a Public Meeting to take a vote. That is an executive session only. They could add a public meeting concurrent to it with proper notice, That doesn't mean its not being discussed. That also doesn't mean after a discussion it isnt completely clear how a vote would go. It just means there is no official action without a public vote. (if it sounds like I've been in a ton of them I have different state/entity of course)

For someone in the sevice class you have a good deal of surfaced rage. It would probably be better for you if you hid it more convincingly.

Easy for you to say if the state he lives in doesn't allow recreational use of a certain plant.

So glad to read about carruth and all the other concerns raised for us by the truck stop trolls.

What we do without such gracious thoughts and prayers from these kind flyover denizens?

Make the CFP money unequal based on you get the most if it's you and get a larger share if you were a bowl team. Reward success and commitment to winning. All those years that CU wasn't pulling its weight, we shouldn't have been getting as much as Oregon from the conference. There needs to be pressure and incentive to perform or losers get too comfortable accepting their current standard while the winners become disgruntled.

Stanford doesn't fvck around with that sort of thing. Really bad look for them. I just hope their reaction isn't to become even worse than they've been about blackballing potential Pac members they don't consider academic heavyweights.

Who is gonna be his replacement on the board? Colorado?

I believe Phil DiStefano (CU Chancellor) already had a leadership position for athletics. I wouldn't want him anyway. But with UW & Stanford reps both stepping down and USC & UCLA ineligible to fill a seat, there are only 8 options. So it's tight. Your guess is as good as mine.

Don't they serve on a rotation?
Who's next up ?

Kirk Schulz (WSU) is the current president, Robert Robbins (Arizona) is newly appointed to the board, and Marc Tessier-Lavigne (Stanford) was a member. I don't know the rules if someone gets forced out, but wouldn't it go to the next president of Stanford? Or the interim president?

I don't think the P12 would want a Colorado rep at this time and perhaps either ASU, Utah, or Oregon State would fill in. I wouldn't trust Stanford or Cal to do the right thing for the conference at this point.

Honest question. Do you enjoy following this media deal so closely? I’m not here to yuck any yums, so if that is what you really like spending time on, go for it. But it seems like CU is likely in a pretty good place, just waiting on the data to make a decision. And when the decision is made, I’m sure there will be all sorts of analysis on whether it was the right one or not. But until then, this all seems kind of pointless, doesn’t it? Or am I missing something?
Personally, I find the PAC media deal interesting in the sense that it is part and parcel with the entire disruption in the film and television industry. Movie theaters are dying, studios can’t count on big budget films to make a return at the box office, streaming is killing cable, sports viewership is in decline, there are demographic shifts in sports, tv, and film viewership, AI is here, writers on strike, you name it. It’s fascinating.

By my count, the presidents of Oregon, Washington, WSU, Arizona, and Stanford have all sat on the exec committee. If Saliman were to step up publicly now would be a good time.

on the plus side, i already hate almost the entire current truck stop conference lineup.

i never really did manage a hate for real for wsu, osu, stan, and cal.

if phillip becomes the leader of this pac thing, it ensures an outcome.

could someone who doesn't have to mouth the words while reading to themselves please explain why it has been concluded by the flyover fellowship that no news must be bad news?

who knew that all these random pundits who do not work in sports or media would be able to opine so expertly on our "dire" circumstances?

again for the slow witted now amongst us... there are 2 possible outcomes for CU:

1. we stay in the Pac because it is best for us.
2. we join the b12 because it is best for us.

how is any of this actually bad news?
