It's obviously the future, but it makes no sense for conferences to rush to get there. Might as well suck the cable teat dry first (B12 metaphor, MFers). Yes, cable is dying and ESPN won't be cashing hundreds of millions of dollars in subscriber fees much longer--but while they are it makes sense for content sellers to get a part of that action. I think that streamers, because they don't need the type of network reach the networks have, will be more competitive with each other when buying content. This doesn't mean they will pay more, just that there will be more bidders for content. There are just fewer barriers to entry vs. cable. So whenever streaming becomes the preferred destination, it will be relatively simple for a conference to sign a deal.
