CU officially hires Mel Tucker as new Head Football Coach

I'm not old enough to remember Bill McCartney when he first came to Boulder so I cant make the comparison of McCartney's hire to Tucker's hire.

McCartney was obviously a good recruiter too and Tucker is as good of a hire we could have hoped for and that goes for some P5 HCs that were mentioned for this job on this board.

Bo Schembler was one of the best coaches at the time so I can imagine CU fans were giddy back in 1982 and people still want to run through a wall after McCartney speaks and Tucker could be the same way coming from the Saban tree.
Dude, McCarntey created an organization with millions of followers on his charisma. If Tucker is half the recruiter, we’ll be fine.

This is big time. We over use some phrases, but sometimes they apply and mean what they're supposed to mean. So "big time"... and "big boy" and "big tent". Rick George is true to his word that his vision is to win championships. This is the type of move you make when you won't accept mediocrity. Mel Tucker is the candidate I was afraid to let myself get excited about. You guys know I wanted offense. You guys know how much I care about recruiting footprint. What you don't know is that I've been watching interviews & mic'd up stuff and reading everything I could find on Tucker the past couple days... and I am convinced he's got that gravitational personalty like McCartney had. This is the kind of man who pulls people into his vision and makes them true believers. We got a great one. I sincerely believe that.
Look, man. I'm trying not to cry tears of joy. You're not helping!

If you look at his historic Recruiting Record, he recruited TEXAS well, as well as of course the Southeast!!! That is huge for this hire, because if he can lock in a West Coast guy, then we are in la la land.

He also has rock solid connections in the Juco's specifically in Kansas. Jacked up baby!

I saw that you mentioned him on Howell's latest Monday chat. Good call!

With the right coordinators and Tucker’s leadership, ability to motivate, develop and recruit CU will rise again.
I wonder if Jed Fisch is still in play as an OC?
That would be sick. And I don't see why that wouldn't be a possibility.

I like this alot. Day was growing on me as my first choice, but I’m hard pressed to find anything wrong with this hire.

I didn’t think he was on our radar because I thought he was out of CU’s league. This is as “home run of a hire” as you could get. If true, this is a huge hire for CU. I couldn’t be happier right now I just need the ****ing announcement so I can sit down and relax and realize this is happening

Great hire for you guys. Seems like the pac-12 is becoming a defensive league now. The key for him is getting recruiters who not only know the west coast but are good recruiters. Head coaches are mostly used to close, so the fact that doesn't have any west coast tie's isn't a big deal but he's got to hire a couple of guys that can recruit southern cal well.

Duuuuude! Welcome you bad ass MFer.

Kinda surprised. We will see what he can do as a leader.
I do like getting some blue blood coaching tree and agree about the toughness being ramped up.
We need a real OC now.

SEVEN YEARS as an NFL DC y'all. We're going to see some hard nosed, fundamentally sound D. Can't wait!
I sure hope so. However, that was the opposite of the D that I saw out of the Bears the years he was the DC in Chicago. They were literally the worst Bears D I'd seen in my lifetime.

I have been a HUGE fan of Rick George since the Coach Mac era. He has accomplished so many incredible achievements since his return to CU. If this hire is true, the rise we've all been expecting to happen, will come to fruition. Get ready AllBuffers, this could be a real fun ride!! Next order of business is to keep RG around for a long, long time.
