CU Boulder and Colorado Mesa University Wednesday announced the addition of an Electrical and Computer Engineering program to their expanding partnership.

The relationship, which began in 2008, allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science from CU Boulder by taking classes delivered at CMU in Grand Junction. Starting next fall, students will be able to work toward degrees in the new Electrical and Computer Engineering program in addition to the two existing options—mechanical and civil engineering.

This is the type of thing that makes me wonder if we might eventually see the CU system expand to include Colorado Mesa University. I think that would be a strong addition, fwiw. Regardless, I love seeing this type of partnership on the Western Slope.

I think it is good for the system. Maybe bring in Ft. Lewis as well to cover the whole state. The plains are kind of left out there with only the JUCOs but they are probably better served by being part of the state system (CSU affiliates) due to their more agrarian / vocational focus.

Junction would love this.

It makes a lot of sense. The availability of engineers is a big factor in a lot of high quality economic growth right now.

This program will allow the state to produce more high quality engineering graduates and help to stimulate growth in western Colorado. It will also make it easier for high quality students in that area to get a CU degree without as high a financial barrier.

And eventually I could see a University of Colorado Grand Junction eventually. Would make some sense but I think would require that they also create a separate community college based in Grand Junction.
