BOULDER - Colorado's lacrosse team will begin preparation for the 2017 season with five days of scrimmages in October starting this coming weekend.
The Buffaloes will be entering their fourth season as a program after a program-best 13-5 record in 2016, including a third-place finish in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a 7-2 conference mark.
The fall season will open on Saturday, Oct. 1 at home with a scrimmage against Friends of CU Lacrosse, including the team's only alumnae Sarah Lautman, current assistant coaches Alex Frank and Kailah Kempney, and other former college lacrosse players from the Denver area.
The Buffs will continue with their first scrimmage against an NCAA school on Oct. 8, hosting the University of Denver at 10 a.m. Their final home game of the fall will be the Black & Gold scrimmage on Oct. 15 at 8 a.m.
CU will play its final weekend of fall competition on Oct. 22 and 23 with six games at Northwestern. On Oct. 22, the Buffs will face Michigan and Northwestern at Martin Stadium in Evanston, Ill., beginning at 11:45 a.m. On the 23rd, they will take on Marquette, Michigan, Northwestern and Marquette again beginning at 8 a.m. at Martin Stadium and Hutchinson Field.
The 2017 season will open in February and the spring schedule will be announced at a later date. It will be the final season for Colorado in the MPSF before women's lacrosse is added as a Pac-12 sport in 2018. CU returns 11 starters and also adds Blair Sisk back into the mix after the 2015 standout missed the 2016 season with an injury.
