Did someone from CUnit bang your gf or something? It takes a lot of work to be a completely student-run organization focusing on one sport. It's easy to see why applying it to football is difficult. I highly doubt the core CUnit guys are bandwagoners.

You’re right that’s not a valid answer. And we care just equally that CU football wins as we do any team that puts on a Colorado Buffaloes uniform, we’re just talking about logistical obstacles and not passion for the Buffs. I went to every home game this year and we care about influencing the football student section in a positive direction. We want our students to be more supportive just as much as you do, probably more. I know you are looking for answers and we are too - we have met with football coaches and staff, Rick George himself, and others in the AD. We are big supporters of coach Mac and think that he has the Buffs headed in the right direction.

I was the one with that idea. I didn’t actually see it from my vantage point but I heard mixed things. We should have done it 10 rows up and had everyone sit down. Also I think it happened on an ‘and 1’ free throw and not ‘shooting 2’ which significantly cuts down on our time to pull off something like that.

If you've met with football coaches I hope you told them that the read option is pointless if the QB never keeps the ball.

Confirmed, not bandwagon fans. Just found a picture with “Go Buffs” written on my forehead when I was in 4th grade. I hate Nebraska.

Mentioned this. We need to work on speed at the QB posistion. I hope Sefo has a BEAST of an offseason in the gym (Maybe consult Josh Scott). Out of the pistol this should be an effective offense as long as we have a super freak athlete back there. Maybe Jaron Hopkins can play QB?

CUnit, if the AD is unlikely to pay for the trip to Vegas, maybe you all could raise funds yourselves. I bet you could sell a ton of those new shirts on campus and at games to raise the funds. Maybe have them sell them at the bookstore and attach a "Portions of sale go to support the CUnit" Tag on them. Either that or have the AD open an avenue for people to directly donate to a CUnit fund and I would almost guarantee that the CUnit would be in Vegas. The NCAA part is a bit more logistically challenging.

Partner with TimmyDub. For the low, low price of $50, you get a special addition c-unit menehune. Proceeds go towards funding travel to conference and NCAA tournaments for eligible members of CU's beloved C-unit.

Umm no. CUnit's response was a non answer. Football is too hard to coordinate? That's an excuse for the creators not wanting CUnit affiliated with the football program, which makes zero sense. I'm glad their "baby" has succeeded, but there's not reason that couldn't be replicated in football. Besides the cunit is basketball only:rolling_eyes:

It is more difficult to coordinate 5000-6000 students spread across 6 or 7 sections in Folsom, than it is 2500 students across 2.5 sections in CEC. It can be done, just look at the MUSS at Utah. UCLA has figured out how to do it, by putting a guy on the field with a giant speaker and a microphone. them saying it is more difficult is true, but there are solutions. It just takes time.

Like I said... the difficulty aspect is an excuse. The CUnit admin already said that cunit would in no way be affiliated with football, under any circumstance. The rep of their creation>>>>>support for football
 
I'm sensing a lot of anger from Slider on this issue. What gives? If you want it to have a football component, then join the group and take on that responsibility yourself. All you're doing right now is whining about how they operate. How they operate is their business, not yours.

Uhh that's exactly the point. They refuse to be affiliated with football. Anyone who joins would be told to furk off. "Basketball only." I already tried and this is what happened.

Then start your own C-Unit that does nothing other than football. They want to concentrate on basketball. That's their prerogative.

Slider, appreciate CUnit for what they are, not what you wish they were. As an alum, it is awesome to see what they have accomplished on the hardwood. The keg is an intimidating place to play for any opponent now - it wasn't just a few years ago. The game traditions established now will resonate long after the current group of students is gone.... and it will spill over to football... eventually. I went to most home bball games as a student and we were loud, and obnoxious and completely unorganized.

CUnit is like the 6th man of College Basketball; join them, help them or get out of their way!!

You need to reconsider the numbers. With 50 students you could get 25 nice bottles of single malt, require at least a couple from each region, and 25 nice cigars; again each different.
 
Agree Herd. But I also think we need to recognize how fragile something like CUnit is. The tradition is just starting. Our program isn't Duke or Kentucky or KS yet. We can't just assume that the students will attend and be passionate. The team has to play well and the admin of CUnit has to stay very narrowly focused to make sure that the momentum keeps building. We are only a bad season or one bad set of CUnit leaders away from it not being interesting to students anymore. It is a really delicate balance to strike (ie too many chants not working or too many meetings... if it gets cheesy or turns into work) and I thinik staying laser focused for a while makes a whole lot of sense.

Over the next couple years they'll hit a tipping point. Where it still requires good leadership but it will become a set piece of the CU culture and it won't be as fragile. During that time I believe the football program will improve and make it easy to want to go stand in the cold for 3 hours. As those two pieces come together I bet there is a very natural drift of the CUnit into Folsom.

Who is this person you are referring to? Like we said earlier, we are working on strategy and concept although the name “CUnit” would probably not be carried over to Folsom. Football student sections don’t name themselves the same way basketball student sections do and they certainly don’t operate the same during games. Difficulty is NOT an excuse, it’s a fact, an obstacle, not a roadblock. I am sick of seeing this bull**** “the rep of their creating > support for football” because that’s simply not true and it’s an unfair attack and burden you are placing on our shoulders. If you have some ideas to get students into Folsom next season we would love to hear them (i’m sure everyone on allbuffs would love to) but attacking us in this area is just misguided. Like I said already before and I’ll say it again, it’s something we understand and we are working on it. it just takes time, and wins.

This is correct, the CUnit was designed as a basketball student section. The way you influence a basketball game is much different than the way you influence a football game, soccer game, volleyball game etc. It takes A LOT of work to make sure that 3000 people are roughly on the same page at any given time. Trust me, I wish just as much as the next guy that our students filled Folsom, cheered their asses off, and helped our Buffs towards victory but that happens grassroots and you cannot just cross apply people and concept from CEC to Folsom and have it look the way Slider wants it to look. It’s just not possible.

No one is stopping you from coordinating something for football

  • Will there be a BuffGirl calendar coming out in January (all proceeds go to sending CUnit to postseason games)?
  • Was the CUnit's presence at football games this season coordinated, or voluntary?
  • Who makes/pays for/designs the fatheads?
  • Do you have to turn away students, and do you encourage them to start a complementary football student support group (if CU football had a CUnit, it would probably translate into additional wins)?
