i think you build as high as you can on your budget....but if the ceiling isn't uniform height (vs. arched in the middle)....it stands to some reason that your punt/KO specialist and punt/KO teams are going to work down the middle if kicks and punts are being deflected by the lower areas of the roof on either side of the hash marks. that's the kind of thing opposing coaches are going to see as a tendency on film 2-3 weeks into the season.....they always return up the middle, or a couple seal block and misdirection and you are to midfield on the boundary.
the only practice facility that's reasonably new that i've seen in person is the one at OU. it looks like a big air-conditioning unit. it's not an architectural marvel. but it is a cubic rectangle...
