There really isn't much point to get angry and overly excited about the state of the team anymore. The program is a product of its environment. What I am upset about is the apparent willingness to let our program be a national laughingstock.

This, by all accounts, should have been the beginning of our resurgence-- Joining the Pac 12, clearing out the previous problems, etc. Instead, you've overseen what I personally believe to be the worst CU team in my lifetime. I know you are not solely responsible. Folks want to bash Benson and DiStefano as well, But, you are in charge of the athletic department. This is on your watch. You own this failure.

All of the efforts of the CUAD to reach out to alums and increase engagement are being blown apart, week by week, by this dreadful situation. Where you should be presiding over a hyper-engaged West Coast fan base, instead, we are embarassed and apathetic and seeking to distance ourselves from this disaster.

You cannot effectively fund raise in this environment. Coach Embree and his staff are good people and I'm sorry that they have failed, but they have failed. Utterly and completely. When individuals fail in my organization, I fire them, even when I like them. You cannot have the entire organization fail because of weak links, regardless of the motivations and desires of the people failing.

Change must be made. This staff has to go. Now. You have to do this. You have to push through the political obstacles. This is your job. You'll own the failure in the eyes of the world, even if you do proclaim from the mountain tops to the end of your days that the culture and administration at CU caused the failure. You own this. You and you alone must fix this.

Fire the staff. Bring in a big name, a proven name. We need someone who can recruit right away based upon reputation, because our reputation is horrible. We need a big time coach who can outshine the horrible state of CU football. You need to do this. And, until you do, we are sunk. We are done. There is no bright shining future, either for us or for you.

Do the right thing.

Go Buffs.

I will stipulate to the fact that this program is heading straight to hell. Realistic solutions? Given that Coach Embree very likely won't be fired this season?

It will be a response of "Thank you so much for your continued support of the program. You the fan is what makes this such a great university and thank you for your input."

MB can't take a leak without Dr. Phil's approval...talking to MB is a waste of time.

People want say things like this to Bohn, but the fact is, at many shcools the football coach is the single highest paid employee of the entire university.

An AD simply is not going to have the autonomy to make that decision without the backing of the higher-ups. I suspect it works that way at most, if not all, D-1 programs.

Mikey read it and has acted...ther will now be SEVEN new recruiting assisstants, although two of them will have to share a desk now. That ought to fix it.

Waiting for Nik to come defend his boy. :smile2:

Do you think it was Bohn's decision to keep Hawkins around for the 2010 season?

Do you think that the last hiring process gave Mike Bohn an opportunity to look at candidates who weren't Buffs?

Do you think that Bohn has the authority to fire Embree if he chooses to do so?

Do you think Bohn is provided the resources and political support necessary to effectively do his job?

My point with Bohn is that he works hard to make improvements within the limits put on him. And I don't know how good of an AD he could be if he was allowed to function as one the way it works at just about every other university.

Nik, do you think he is trying to outlive PD and BB? Because I sure as hell think he is a pussy if puts up with this and has not moved on. It is not like several years ago he could not have found another gig somewhere, especially right after 2010 when he was not allowed to fire Hawk. He is going to have significantly more issues trying to get another AD gig now as he is becoming damaged goods but at one point he could have left and not had any real issues. Just wondering what your take is because I think he may be asked to leave sooner rather than later. I think PD and BB use him as a scapegoat and try to buy more time by canning him at the end of this season.

+1 I said in December 2010 MB should resign if he was going to be forced to keep the pigeon. Instead, he became the yes man, fell on his sword and got a nice little tidy contract extension. That pretty much tells you all you need to know. MB is fine presiding over a losing program as long as he gets paid. He will continue to do the dirty work Dr. Phil and BB demand. I suspect you are right though, if I were looking for an AD to run a winner, I would have reservations about MB. Maybe he would be really good at it, we'll probably never know because BB and Dr. Phil hold the puppet strings.

Football fans, especially alums, like to delude themselves into thinking they have a voice in all of this. It’s understandable, but writing a letter of this sort, in reality, is about as impactful as writing a letter to Exxon about their CEO.

It's easy to tell someone else when they should resign their job out of principle and find some other job that requires them to relocate their family. He's from Boulder, maybe he genuinely enjoys living and working here and if he has to take take orders from his bosses on occasion, maybe that's a reasonable trade-off for him to continue with a job and lifestyle he enjoys.

I don't know Bohn personally, but people are motivated by any number of things.

True. The only thing left is to not show up. I have tried to make games as my schedule allowed, although I have never been a season ticket holder. I have 2-3 games a year over the last seven seasons or so. Even when I no longer believed in the pigeon, circa 2009, I still showed when I could because I , foolishly, thought the admin. really wanted a competitive team. Now, I no longer believe that, my goodwill has been abused by people who apparently view me as a sucker who will keep shelling out $$$ to watch what we have now. Sorry, won't do it anymore. CU will have to show me something now....too many other places I can go for entertainment. Go ahead and label me a bad fan, but as CO taxpayer, alumnus and fan, I believe I have the right to say what I am saying.

I get it and I know there are trade offs. It was an honest question and all points you raise are valid. I would have a hard time swallowing my pride to the level he has had to do, or at least that is how it appears to me. I honestly feel sorry for Mike and do like him. I would like to see what he could do with the program if the others would let him do his job.

He's a local guy who always wanted to live here and do this job. He's got a lot of personal friends and family relationships to a lot of Buff alums and families in the Denver metro. So instead of abandoning a bad situation for personal gain, he has sucked it up, taken the crap he is forced to deal with, and gives us everything he has to try to keep this ship afloat, make repairs, and fight for improvements. I find it hard to think less of him for not telling Benson & DiStefano to shove it given this unique circumstance. He left a pretty damn good situation at San Diego State to come here. Great place to live and an administration that was committed to its athletic department.

If this thing does not get righted over the next few years I would hope Larry Scott would have a heart to heart with the powers. If BB and PS continue to show no interest in the program he might remind them that they were not admitted in the PAC to just collect a fat paycheck with no investment in the team.

I would think that having to basically bunker down and take the fan rage for a whole season over 3 of the last 4 years would be incentive enough for MB to make sure he gets a great hire.

That, or just wanting the program to succeed because, um...that's his job.

You are kidding yourself. Every conference has always had crappy bottom dwellers and always will. The goal is to not be that guy.

I'm not even sure that will do anything. It all depends on the admin and big $ alum. If both are not willing to do what it takes, then CU could just end up like Kansas or Northwestern or Indiana or Duke or etc. Many people that count don't see crappy football as the end of the world. Go to a KU game. They don't really care that much about winning or losing. It's the event, the atmosphere, something to do on a fall Sat.
