RG needs to sell season tickets. Even if MM was given a bowl or gone ultimatum, he'd still want him out there selling the program.Maybe RG hasn't pushed him out to the media more because he's got an uncertain future.
Maybe they need to have CU Video do a true Spring/Fall camp "documentary" similar to Hard Knocks, and promote the hell out of it and air it on local TV or the P12 Network. Give fans insight into meeting rooms, the weight room, practices, cafeteria, do interviews with all the coaches and some veteran players, etc.
I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass about hearing how dominant our DL is during the Spring, or how our WRs are catching everything in 7v7 drills. I also don't care about MM trying to artificially hype a program that hasn't been to a bowl game in a decade. I do think, however, that getting some real, raw insight into the process will get fans to connect more with the staff and players.
Yes. I would love to see The Drive devote a 15-20 minute segment each week to CU football by having MM talk about the prior game/upcoming game, similar to what the morning show does with Patrick Roy. Only problem is that they'll probably have to give the sheep a segment too, to keep from upsetting their fan base.What they need to do is get on "The Drive". Maybe this is the year, but almost every coach that has done it has talked about how it has impacted recruiting. CU Video trying to document the season last year, but they were expecting more wins to make their job easy. Obviously didn't work that way.

I agree that we should get more team press. I just think it should be more Team instead of Coach MM.To be clear, I think it is not necessary that MM be a great public speaker or anything of the sort. But I do think he and the AD could be doing a better job of outreach. Maybe it involves more of the assistant coaches. CU Video did do something pretty cool when MacIntyre was initially hired where they interviewed him and several of the assistants. That definitely needs to happen again. For a program that has struggled for so long, it just seems like the outreach is lacking.
For the "just win" crowd, I think that attitude only really works for teams winning 9-10 games on a consistent basis. For rebuilding programs and teams in the mediocre tier, outreach at the college level is a fundamental part of the job IMO.

A lot of people report that he's an extremely likable and relatable guy - in the right setting.
It's obvious that big public gatherings are not that setting.
It's also obvious that press conferences aren't ideal (even if they're not terrible, they're not ideal).
The AD should be courting PR possibilities that allow MM to present the side that everyone that sees it tends to like and respect.
I suspect that he would do great in a one on one setting talking serious football. Finding the other side of that one on one would be difficult, because they would also have to be very football smart to hold up their end. The result would probably be something that's less "entertaining" to the general public but more "educational" for the serious football fan.
It wouldn't even have to necessarily focus on CU only, but they could discuss football strategy and evolution, with examples from all levels of football (although there would be a obvious bias towards college ball, and the Pac-12 in particular). Take questions from high school, middle school and pop warner coaches, help them break down offenses and defenses. In general, be seen being a football expert.
Incidentally, in the local media Dave Logan could be that person in the other chair - they'd probably both benefit.

His "it ain't intramurals brother" rant is a punchline now, but fans loved it at the time. His problem wasn't that he talked too much, it was that he didn't win enough which made everything he said sound like bulls**t.Honestly, this reminds me exactly of what we got with Hawk. He was very good at interacting and telling everyone what they wanted to hear. He got people excited. He did this until his last day on the job. Most fans hated him when the wins weren't coming and criticized him because he kept that same attitude.
I am guessing they could do more, but not sure what exactly would help at this point. Most people paying attention are the ones paying attention anyways. Maybe you could drum up some fun interviews, but ultimately I don't see this as a problem.
I am guessing Nick Saban isn't very good at this as well and doubt Alabama fans give a rats ass either way.

Belichek and Saban don't need to sell their programs or fight for attention because they win a lot and get all the publicity they want without needing a coach who is a salesman.
There are a lot of great things going on within the program right now - diehard fans know about it because we seek out the info, but who is selling it to casual fans and recruits? It's part of the coach's job and being sh**ty at part of your job doesn't excuse him from doing his job.
God forbid one of those local radio or TV pieces gets some national play. You're talking about recruits we are offering or targeting - sure they get the same sales pitch they get from other schools about how great they are, but wouldn't it be nice if they heard nice things about CU outside of our directed recruiting pitch? Wouldn't it also be nice if players, parents, and coaches who weren't already being recruited had a positive opinion of the program? That's the part we're not doing well - showing off the things that we have that are worth being excited about.I am sure recruits and high school coaches know exactly what is going on with the program and the new facilities. That is all recruits really talk about when they do interviews about Colorado. Recruits don't listen to interviews on KOA AM radio, and considering most recruits are out of state I don't think a 3 minute feature on CBS 4 news is going to be seen either. Even the players inside the state probably miss the news most of the time.
