Awesome. It feels good to see the Buffs win, regardless of the competition

only stayed for the 1st half, couple of notes:

great crowd, should be 7k easily.
Dre looks great on offense, his outside shot looks improved, rebounding is amazing, but his defense was pretty soft and he missed some assignments
Dufault looks really good, fighting for boards, has post moves and playing good defense, easily the most improved player
SHT looks absolutely lost. He still has stone hands and when he gets the ball down low, he never makes a quick move.

As for the rookies they were in and out so fast I couldn't get a good read in the 1st half, but there was some awkwardness on offense and it didn't flow well in the 1st half and a lot of missed assignments on defense.

I'm sure you don't get too excited by football, seeing as how Tivoli Tech can't seem to manage to even start a program. Personally, I don't get too excited by a coach using a program as a stepping stone to showcase his collection of merecenaries, and we'll see how long it is until the next national championship now that the one good thing your little trade school ever had going for it has left Speer State in his rear view mirror...

BTW, the last time I was on the "campus" down there at Tivoli Tech (doesn't a campus usually have more dorms than parking garages at a real school?), I could reach the top of the tallest tree on campus without leaving the ground. Quite a contrast to the attractive campus at Colorado Mesa University, where you can find all kinds of things I'm sure you can't even begin to imagine. Like graduate students, on-campus housing, football games, and people who don't measure the success of their collegiate experience by how much time they spent stuck in traffic getting back and forth to class... :smile2:

The state doesn't permit Metro to have a football team, something about not embarrasing the little hick schools on the west slope like they do in basketball. Actually GJ itself isn't an ugly place, the campus isn't bad, kind of like a mid-sized high school. The trees look large primarily because the buildings are small, appropriate for a JC in hiding. Metro has plenty of trees, they only look small next to real buildings. Being in the middle of nowhere you wouldn't be able to relate to being at a college in the middle of a dynamic area with modern facilities blended in with historic structures and the culture of a real city.

Yeah, not surprising that a Metro education leads to career options like porn....

Nice try about the state not allowing a football team. But if they really wanted to keep Metro from embarassing anybody, they would just ban its graduates from the internet... :smile2:

Tomlinson- not agressive enough to play the point for the buffalos, as the season progresses, i expect him to move more to shooting guard spot and to come off the bench. Shannon Sharpe, Booker, The Mayor did a better job running the point tonight.

Carlon Brown- not a pure scorer that i had expected. Maybe it is just the first game of the season, will give him about 6 more games. Not easy to seat out one year.

The mayor- The guy got upside, will get there, made a lot of freshmen mistakes today, and he also made a lot of terrific cross court passes, he is the PG of the future, i expect him to be starting PG at the start of conference play.

Booker- A little bit undersized, good bench player

Shannon Sharpe- good PG, good defender, would like to see him score more, but i am happy with the energy he provides off the bench.

Dufault- Good offensive player, but a liablility on the defensive end.

Roberson- Has improved his offensive game, but tonight didn't have the best defensive game, need to clean that up against better opposition

ShT- tough to come back after missing the whole season, i did like his post play moves, didn't like his defensive rebounding and positioning against a 2nd division team. Hopefully he will be back to his best before conference play.

Ben Mills- Kid should just be a defensive presence, would take Offensive and defensive rebounding from him this year. Deserves more minutes

Chen- I am worried about his strenght, may get pushed around by the likes of UCLA and etc. Don't expect him to get much minutes in the 8-9 man rotation.

How many weeks ago did mixed up state JC finally get connected to the internet. First they get flush toilets and paved streets, now they have the internet. It's been a big past 3 years for the students in GJ. Now they can finally look at porn and see girls who are less hairy than their dogs and weigh less than their neighbors heifers.

You're seriously implying that the place where I live doesn't have enough access to the internet? Nice to see I-25 Institute really taught you to think well...

But when you've got real live young hotties who stay on campus after class rather than going home to mommy and daddy's place, and when you're not subjected to Colfax hookers every day between classes, you don't really need to waste your time on porn...

Student crowd was great.
Dre got even better on the boards and his hops got even bigger. Jumped out of the keg a few times tonight. He's gonna be a regular on sc top 10 this year.
The Mayor is legit got a nice pull-up just like cory
Ski could definitely be explosive off the bench once he finds his shot
SHT needs more time
Carlon looks very confident
Nate needs to be more confident in his shot as usual
Dufault needs to be more confident as well
Sammy Chen looks like our smartest player, made some great backdoor cuts.
Shannon didn't take a jumper all night despite rumors of him being more confident in his shot this year

Big question, if Mills isn't redshirting is DC?

Whenever I went to GJ the only thing that would make the girls hanging out at mixed up state JC was the natural fur coat they were wearing and the extra layer of fat on them. The hookers on Colfax stay busy with the guys who manage to escape places like mixed up state and are looking for girls who have a full set of teeth. I have to honestly say that I went to Metro, CU Boulder, CSU, and UCCS for various programs. It has been a while since I am now one of the boards old guys but Metro was far and above the others for variety and access to hot females.

Every school has some but as small as mixed up state is the talent pool just isn't there. It is also not exactly a place that draws the most talented students from across the state. Metro gets a lot of girls from all over Colorado who want to live in Denver and experience the city.

We have had some fun banter back and forth on this thread about the schools but seriously if you are going to try to compare the talent at Mesa with the talent at Metro you will qualify for an insanity defense. Comparing a school with over 24,000 students in an urban setting to a school with about 8,000 in a rural setting just doesn't add up.

Neither school is anything close to selective in terms of admission but Metro has some programs that are highly respected and draw students from throughout the region and even to an extent nationally. Bottom line, GJ is a beautiful place to live with a lot of outdoor recreation available and students at any college are going to figure out how to party and have a good time but if I were young again and had the choice Metro would win out in a landslide, and I am a person who doesn't like living in the city and only go to Denver when I have to. Metro may be a "commuter" school but we never had a problem keeping a very solid social life going at all times.

Kept flunking out, eh? Can't say I'm surprised if "mixed up state" is your idea of clever repartee'....

I'm not really going to try to compare anything about the two schools, as I haven't attended both of them. Neither have you, but at least my education taught me that reaching an informed conclusion requires one to be, first and foremost, informed. You seem to have skipped that step... Personally, I would recommend CMU very highly to somebody looking for a true college experience. If you're happy with what you got at Metro, that's a good thing too...

As far as admissions go, CMU requires a Colorado Higher Education Index of 85 or higher to apply. Metro requires a 76 or higher. That probably explains all the pretty but dumb talent you kept seeing. They just couldn't get into Mesa...

Glad to see a few posts about the game in between the mindless babble about some schools no one cares about.

Dre is going to be very very good this year. That dude just flies all over the court and almost had a sick dunk off a rebound.

I don't think we learned a lot tonight.

We don't have anyone who has that "star" quality like you knew Alec had his first game as a freshman. But we've got a lot of guys who can play. I wish we had another couple games to work this out before Puerto Rico.

One thing is that this team needs to get tougher. Hopefully bringing Cain and Adams into the rotation will deliver that and Shane will get his timing and aggressiveness back.

After tonight, I don't feel like I had questions answered.

I think we're better than the early season team that lost at San Francisco and Harvard last year, but I don't know that to be true. Also, I don't know what our ceiling is. A lot depends on Shane's development during the season, whether Carlon is able to be the go to guy, whether Austin can be as productive against good competition, whether Ski and The Mayor take off, and whether Adams and Cain give us a boost when they suit up and play.

Too many questions still.

A couple quick observations.
Easily the most disappointing player SHT. He did have a couple ticky-tack fouls called but he was terrible. Just lost. I hope he is able to bump better with bigger guys than he showed tonight. No surprise Ben Mills isn't redshirting with his play.
Ski is very quick, but lacks lateral defensive mobility. He got beaten against the very quick guards a couple of times. He also has some very good looking shots(and free throws). Offensively I was impressed.
The mayor spent a lot of the game in and being evaluated. I would like to see more. He was pretty damn good on the boards.
Dufault didn't disappoint. His post moves were good.
Dre: It has been said, he did what we expected, rebound.
Sharpe: has to work on penetrating and kicking the ball out. We can't have five guys around the three point line passing the ball. Without Burks or Higgins that does not work.
Finally Brown: I have no opinion, he didn't show too much. He sometimes runs so quick he gets ahead of himself. But appears to be a decent scoring option.

Overall, our offense is going to die against good defensive teams. We need to continue to improve on both sides of the ball but especially defensively with these lineups.

One of the issues that could arise, players dunking in pregame. If the officials come out too early they see the players dunking. This becomes a technical. A ridiculous technical that drives me insane, but we can't afford to give up points.

Also the players were very selfish tonight because they were all trying to get theirs because it was a blowout. When its a close game we will see the real go-to-guys step up.
