Buff lacrosse (0-2, 0-0) hopes to take advantage of some home cooking as they are scheduled to play their 1st home game of the year versus local rival and #14 ranked Denver (0-0, 0-0), who hasn't played a game yet. (They had an exhibition scheduled last weekend against Regis that was cancelled.)

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER — Colorado lacrosse opens its 2021 home slate, and a five-game homestand, on Sunday, February 28, by hosting in-state rival No. 14 Denver. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kittredge Field.

The Buffaloes are 0-2 after starting the season with a pair of losses on the road. They fell in the season-opener, 12-9, to Louisville on Feb. 18, before suffering an overtime loss (11-10) to Vanderbilt on Feb. 21. They are looking to get back on track, and Kittredge Field is just the place to do it. CU owns a 37-10 (.787) all-time record there and is 5-2 in its home openers.
...

ABOUT DENVER: This is the season opener for the Pioneers, who finished the 2020 season with a 7-1 record. Quintin Hoch-Bullen returns from 2020 and was the leading scorer with 33 goals and 11 assists for 44 points. Bea Behrins is also back and recorded 33 points (22 goals, 11 assists).

Chloe Lewis and Amelia Cole both saw time in net for DU during the 2020 season and Victoria Macres was also on the roster in 2020, but none of them was the starting goalkeeper for the Pioneers. The starter, Carson Gregg, graduated following the season in May, which means any of the three could be in goal on Sunday.

Sam Thacker led the Pioneers in caused turnovers (13) and recorded 15 ground balls and 14 draw controls in 2020. Molly Little led DU with 37 draw control wins while recording 10 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.

THE SERIES: DU owns a 4-2 lead in the all-time series against CU. The two teams have met every season, except in 2020 when the season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The two were set to meet on April 9.

The Pioneers won the first two meetings (2014 and '15), but then the Buffs took the next two (2016 and '17). DU came back to win the last two meetings in 2018 and '19.

CU is 1-2 against the Pioneers in Boulder at Kittredge Field. The Buffs defeated DU 14-3 in 2017.

HOW TO WATCH: The game will be streamed for free on CUBuffs.com. Links to the stream and live stats are available on the schedule page at CUBuffs.com.

UP NEXT: The Buffs continue their homestand on March 12 against Oregon, which is the Pac-12 Conference opener for both teams.

HOME ATTENDANCE POLICY: Colorado lacrosse attendance at Kittredge Field is limited to player and coaches families in accordance with NCAA and PAC-12 spectator policies. All other spectators will be prohibited from attending on-site. The game will be streamed for free and can be found at CUBuffs.com.

After the Pioneers had shrunk the Buffs lead to 1 (8-7) with around 19 minutes left, the Buffs DOMINATE the rest of the way to earn the W 14-7.

Congrats to the team on the BIG 1st win of the season against the ranked local rival!!!

nice win. Denver did not look as good as Louisville or Vandy but the buffs played well. Need to work on turnovers and ground balls. Seems like they have a lot of bad passes and have a hard time getting ground balls.

I still plan on making a game thread for their scheduled Sunday game against the SDSU Aztecs, but did want to note somewhere that Friday's game, the 1st scheduled in Pac 12 play, has been canceled*** due to Covid-19 protocol issues within the Oregon program. Hope all ends up OK with them.

For the SDSU game, the release also says it's being moved to the IPF due to the forecasted incoming winter storm.

***Unlike what we've seen in basketball, the tweet and release already says the Duck game is "cancelled" rather than "postponed". Assume, therefore, the plan for Pac 12 lacrosse is, if a game can't be played when originally scheduled, there will NOT be an attempt made to reschedule it to a later date.
