BOULDER – When Annika Jank stepped on campus in July for summer school, she did not expect to have the instant impact she has had on CU's women's basketball program. In fact, her biggest concern was adjusting to the altitude of Boulder (5,430 feet). She was coming from near sea level in Minnesota at just over 900 feet.

She quickly learned the altitude adjustment was nowhere near what she feared, despite rising about 4,500 feet from her hometown. She also learned that the transition from high-level high school basketball in Minnesota and AAU was not as big of a jump either.

Jank, a 6-foot-3 freshman from Edina, Minn., has become an instant success for the Buffs, averaging 13.4 points and 8.1 rebounds through her first eight collegiate games. She has three double-doubles and is coming off her best performance yet, 22 points and 10 rebounds as she led CU to a 70-67 win on the road at in-state rival Colorado State on Wednesday to improve the team record to 7-1 so far.

UP NEXT: CU hosts Dartmouth at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Coors Events Center.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH: The Big Green are 6-1 so far this season. Three players are currently averaging double figures in scoring, led by Cy Lippold at 15.0 per game. She also averages 4.4 assists and is shooting over 50 percent from 3-point range and 17-of-20 (.850) from the free throw line. She has scored in double figures each game, led by a season-high 20 points in a season-opening win over Vermont.

Beyond Lippold, Kate Letkewicz averages 12.7 points and 8.0 rebounds, and is also an excellent shooter, burying 18-of-41 (.439) 3-point attempts and 11-of-12 (.917) free throws. Isalys Quinones averages 11.0 points and 6.6 rebounds. Quinones led Dartmouth with 18 points in a 57-49 win over New Hampshire on Tuesday.

The Big Green host Maine today before traveling to Boulder for Monday's contest.

PROMOTIONS: Fans can purchase four general admission tickets to Monday's game for $15 with the online promo code FOUR. Tickets must be purchased in increments of four. It was also be CU's annual toy drive. Fans who donate a toy will receive a discount ticket voucher to the Dec. 21 game against Westminster and men's basketball's Dec. 15 game against South Dakota State.

Very competitive game early, with Dartmouth looking very efficient on offense, while the Buff fast break has closed the deficit to 12-13 at the 1st quarter media timeout.

20-19 at the end of the quarter.

It will definitely help if the Buffs can start to hit a few more outside shots, although they're doing OK on the offensive boards so far to make up with it. Dartmouth seeming to get good shots most possessions, but the Buffs got a few more turnovers with steals late.

Dartmouth looks well coached. Kennedy has to hit some shots. Lexi needs to shoot more. Bunn can't keep committing these fouls this season. Knight and Jank playing well.

29 all at the 2nd quarter media timeout. Continues to be a tight game, with Buff outside shooting still having issues, highlighted by team being 0-7 (vs. 3-10 for Dartmouth) from 3's.

Buffs got a turnover recently when going to a full court press for I believe the 1st time. See if they use that more.

40-34 Buffs at the half. CU cold as ice from the perimeter. Jank with 19!

Dartmouth runs their offense very well.

40-34 at the half.

Huge half offensively for Jank, as she is already close to her career high with 19, many of those from just out-running her opponents down court. She also has hit the only Buff 3, with the team only 1-12 overall from beyond the arc.

0-10 on threes not counting Jank. Kennedy just in a shooting funk. Get one to fall and more will follow. Jank says I'll take another PAC 12 FR of the Week. I can't take another one going to the buzzer but this one looks like it will be just that.

I get the feeling the Buffs could ratchet up the forced turnovers even more in the 2nd half, after having a 10-5 advantage in the 1st half.
(Ms. Robinson, especially, looks to be a/ the defensive stopper for the Buffs, always in good position to guard her opposite, and still using quick hands and anticipation to take away the passing lanes.)

The announcers say Dartmouth doesn't typically go that deep into their bench, so hopefully altitude will also help as a "6th (wo)man" as the 2nd half progresses.

51-46 Buffs at the 3rd quarter media timeout.

Leonard goes down hard to the ground 3 times in the course of a couple minutes, getting fouled on all 3. Seems OK, but hasn't come back in after the last one, where she was sandwiched between 2 Dartmouth players on a rebound.

Edit- Great sign- Leonard is back in after the break.

59-52 Buffs at the end of 3 with Knight getting the last 1/10th of a second rebound put-back for the 7 point lead.

Edit- Leonard continues to show her fearlessness with 2 great lay-up drives after the early quarter pounding she took.

Tied at 64 as the Buffs with 4:51 remaining as a timeout is called. Going to be a nail biter.

Have to think with the Buffs' constant emphasis and height advantage, Coach Payne will not be happy with the rebounding (38 all with 4 minutes left).

Ugh- 70-66 down with a green wave free throw pending after a CU timeout. Only 7 points in the 4th quarter with a couple minutes remaining.

81-75 is the final.

Buffs need to learn and go on. Solid effort by Dartmouth- assume they'll end up with a LOT of wins in the Ivy League.

BOULDER -- The Colorado Buffaloes saw their six-game winning streak snapped at the Coors Events Center on Monday night at the hands of the visiting Dartmouth Big Green (7-2), as an all-around tough night of shooting from the field resulted in a 81-75 CU defeat.

It was the first loss at home on the season for the Buffs (7-2), who saw a fourth-quarter lead slip away at the hands of 19 fourth-quarter points from Dartmouth's junior point guard Cy Lippold as part of her 24-point outing.

The Buffs ended on just 38 percent shooting from the field, including 14 percent from deep on just 2-of-14 shooting and 75 percent from the free throw line in a game that featured eight lead changes when it was all said and done.

Freshman Annika Jank put up an absolutely dominating first half before ending with a new career-high of 26 points to go along with the Buffs defeat, marking the most points for a CU freshman since Tera Bjorklund had 28 against Wyoming in 2000.
...

Notable Stats
Jank led the way on a night where the only ability to connect from deep came from her fingertips, as she accounted for both of the team's made treys on 14 team attempts. The team ended shooting 14 percentage points below their already-low 29 percent team average before Monday's contest.

Dartmouth's ability to consistently hit free throws down the stretch hampered any chance the Buffs had of surviving the foul game and reclaiming the lead, as the Big Green outshot the Buffs 89 percent to 75 percent from the line on Monday--largely from Lippold.

Even with the game's eight lead changes, seven of them occurred in the first half on Monday, further highlighting how the Buffs were in steady control for much of the second half until the Lippold-led Dartmouth took over for good.

What it Means?
Coming into Monday's matchup at 7-1 with their only concession a competitive overtime defeat in Chapel Hill, the Buffs saw any chance of sneaking into the AP poll squashed by tonight's performance. The team will have just two more non-conference games to get back on track before opening Pac-12 play on December 29th versus Arizona State.

Noteworthy
Knight recorded two quarter-ending buzzer beaters on Monday, as her putbacks beat the clock for both the end of the first and third quarters of play…...Jank's 26 points were the most for a CU freshman since Tera Bjorklund scored 28 at Wyoming on Nov. 29, 2000 ... it was also the first time a freshman has had 20+ points in back-to-back games since Leonard had 23 and 20 in consecutive games in Feb. 2016 ... Leonard tied her own CU record for assists in a quarter with five in the first (also had five at Kentucky, Nov. 22, 2015 in the third quarter) ... CU missed its first 10 3-point attempts before Jank made one at 2:07 in the second quarter ... CU is now 0-2 this season when it does not win the rebounding battle ... the 75 points allowed were the most in regulation this season and the 14 turnovers forced were the second-lowest this season (13 vs. George Mason).

Up Next
CU plays at Air Force on Friday at 7 p.m.

Quoteworthy
JR Payne, head coach

On the game (general)
"Two really good teams who came in to tonight with really good records and good wins. We knew this was going to be a difficult game. The foundation of success comes from defense and rebounding, and I don't think we did those two things as well as we needed to tonight. There's going to be positives that we can take from the film, but there's also a lot of areas we can improve."

On what led to sub-par defense and rebounding
"Our shoot around wasn't very good, our warm up wasn't very good. There was kind of a flat feeling all day long, I don't know if that was fatigue or getting ready for finals or what it was, but Dartmouth came in ready to play. They're a great team, they did everything that we thought they would do, things that we had worked on. We had talked about communicating defensively and I think when we turn on the film we'll see that we could have done a better job there. But [Dartmouth] exerted their will, they did whatever they wanted to and we didn't put up enough resistance to stop them."

Again, hope the Buffs brush this one off and take it to the Falcons (and of course finals before that) on Friday.
