In a big regular- season finale in Lubbock, Women's basketball (18-10 overall, 9-8 in Big 12 play) attempts to clinch the #8 seed*** and a bye in the 1st round of the Big 12 tourney as they face off against the Texas Tech (TTU) Red Raiders (14-16, 3-14) on the later's Senior Day.

***Right now, the #8 seed is between CU and Arizona, who are tied in the standings but I believe CU has the tiebreaker based on their win over Arizona earlir this month in Boulder. With Arizona playing a struggling ASU side (which is tied with TTU for 14th in the conference standings), the odds are BIG the Buffs need to win Saturday to earn a bye at the conference tourney. Whichever team gets the 8th seed will earn a bye and play their 1st game next Thursday beginning at 12:30 PM MT against the winner of the Wednesday game (also with a 12:30 PM MT scheduled start) between the 9 and 16 seeds, which is the other possible 1st tourney game for the Buffs. (With its 1-16 record, Houston has clinched the #16 seed and will be the #9 seed's 1st round opponent.)

CU handled TTU 67-51 in early February in Boulder (looks like this was the 1st game that Ms. Formann's injury sidelined her) and TTU is riding a 9 game losing streak, but of course with the Buff's often having had road issues this season (only 1 conference win outside Boulder), and the energy bump that can occur on a team's senior day, assume CU will be looking to play their best to get the W over the Red Raiders.

In the latest NET rankings (as of games played 2/26; available at https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-basketball-net-rankings), CU are currently at #57 so definitely in the NCAA tourney bubble- (at minimum) zone, while TTU is at #86.

As has been the case for almost all conference games so far this season, the game is scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ for those with a premium ($) subscription to that service. (Further info and links for media options available near the bottom of this post.)

That was not a fun game to watch. The Buffs beat themselves. They had a horrible 2nd quarter and got down because they scored 6 points. Also had 18 turnovers and players in foul trouble.

So in the 3rd quarter, they came back and in the 4th quarter, they got ahead. In the last minute, with a 3 point lead, Garzon fouled a Tech player on a 3 point shot.

Overtime it was. Wetta had fouled out and the turnovers continued in OT. They lost and deserved to lose by the way they played.

I have not seen the scores of the other games today, but the Buffs will most likely be playing in the first round of the tournament with no bye.

I have no idea of how they will play on a neutral court and I doubt Buff fans travel well.

After that horrible game yesterday, I watched the last half of Jaylyn Sherrod's game. That is a fun style of basketball with the crazy scoring at the end of each quarter.

Jaylyn doesn't play all of the time but she is tenacious and an excellent defender.

The player she was guarding got called for a foul. That player yelled at the refs and sudden the foul was on Jaylyn. Guess that's the way it goes for rookies.

Jaylyn's team won.

The worst part about the game is Sheryl Swoopes was doing commentary and I don't like her. The other announcer brought up that Texas Tech had just beat CU in overtime. Swoopes calmly says when she was playing in the Elite 8 in 1993, they ran us out of the gym. That is exactly what happened. At least she said Colorado had beaten the defending national champions Stanford and wasn't even supposed to be playing Tech.

A back handed compliment.
