My gut reaction to the UT-Martin game (without having seen the Baylor game) is that CU's parts are better than the sum at this point. Defending the trey was clearly an issue on Sunday evening. UT-Martin only had to dribble penetrate a bit then kick it out and they had the shot. There were times when a CU defender was near, but near enough to change the shot.
For me, the best true freshmen was Dustin Thomas. He seemed to have a complete game at both ends and on offense plays very much under control which made hem efficient with the shots he took. Look at the highlights of the steal and assist to Dinwiddie, he handles like a point guard and gives the ball up at the right moment so Spencer has nothing to do but put the ball in the basket. Also, the spin move he made where he dribbled, spun and then banked in a short shot was also very much under control.
Hopkins is more athletic and takes more risks. Nothing wrong with that, but he is going to make more mistakes than Thomas. Also, Thomas has a better perimeter shot. Still, I like Hopkins with the dribble penetration and dish as his quickness draws a crowd and allows the big men to get layups.
