Before starting conference play, lacrosse (2-4) has 3 more games, the 1st 2 in Boulder. (Note - they do have one other non-conference game in the middle of conference play, with DU, in mid-April.) Coming up this Saturday at noon they host the Iona Gaels (out of New Rochelle, New York, 1-5). Then early in the evening (5:00) next Thursday (3/20), the Stony Brook Seawolves (Out of Stony Brook, New York; 4-2 overall; 1-0 in CAA play) comes to town. Then, the last game before conference begins looks to be a neutral site contest as the Buffs head to Houston to face the Dartmouth Big Green (4-2, 0-1 in Ivy League play). (Per the Dartmouth schedule, the CU game with them will be played at "TDECU Stadium at University of Houston".)

Go Buffs!!!

The Buffs, I assume substituting a LOT, only score 1 goal in the 2nd half but still earn a comfortable 12-4 win.

Way to go Buffs!

nice win. excellent first half. terrible second half being outscored 4-2. Need that to stop. They had a bad period against Michigan and it cost them. They need to play an entire game.

Lacrosse Buffs Stomp Gaels, Shoup Leads with Career-High

Junior midfielder Maddie Shoup scored career-high seven points on three goals and four assists

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The Colorado lacrosse team (3-4, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Iona (1-6, 0-0 MAAC), 12-4, at Prentup Field on Saturday, Mar. 15.

The first quarter alone saw eight goals from the Buffs. Closing out the half, the Buffaloes kept the Gaels scoreless, leading 11-0. After a slow third quarter (11-2, CU), the Black and Gold fought back against Iona. In their first game at Prentup Field, the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Iona Gaels, 12-4.

"It was a tale of two halves for us. I'm proud of the way we came out and competed," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "I liked our aggressiveness on defense, and we did some nice things offensively. One focus for us was on transition, and I thought we did a good job there in first half. In the second half, we didn't execute with same purpose. We have to be able to play 60 minutes regardless of who is in or out. We have a great opportunity at home Thursday and will turn our focus to getting better and preparing for that."

The Buffs won in the draw circle, managing 17 draw controls to the Gaels' three. Colorado also out-shot Iona on goal, 24-10, and caused eight turnovers as a team. CU saw seven scorers for the second game in a row.
...

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Buffaloes started the game against Iona with three goals in 32 seconds (3-0, CU). Shoup scored the first goal and third goal. Reed scored the second goal, assisted by Shoup. Minutes later, Shoup reached her fourth hat trick in her career with her third goal that was assisted by Pence (4-0, CU). After a draw control and ground ball from Peluso, Shoup assisted Pisani's first goal of the game (5-0, CU). Less than a minute later, Ryan scored the sixth goal of the game, assisted by Pence (6-0, CU). After her assist, Pence scored her own goal on a free position shot (7-0, CU). With 21 seconds left in the quarter, Assini scored the final goal of the game, bringing the end of the quarter to 8-0 (CU).
  • The Black and Gold started with caused turnovers from Assini and Carson, as well as a groundball that was picked up by Johnson. Shoup assisted Ryan for another Buff goal (9-0, CU). The clock started running with a goal from Pisani, assisted by Shoup (10-0, CU). Assini scored her second goal on a free position shot, bringing the Buffaloes to 11-0 (CU). After an end-of-the-quarter save from Oh, Colorado kept Iona scoreless, ending the half 11-0 (CU). Colorado had 15 shots on goal, while Iona only had three in the first half. CU cleared 100% of the time in the first half.
  • The third quarter was a bit slower for the Buffs. Calen Norton opened scoring for Iona (11-1, CU). Minutes later, Kira Varada scored the Gaels' second goal (11-2, CU). After a draw control from Peluso, Hanlon and Oh each picked up a groundball. Both teams were scoreless in the final 10 minutes.
  • To gain momentum for the Buffs, Hill scored her first goal of the game with an assist from Assini (12-2, CU). After two more saves from Oh, Iona was able to get through to score again (12-3, CU). The Gaels scored their fourth goal (12-4, CU). Iona shot with five seconds left, but Oh made her final save, ending the game (12-4, CU).

UP NEXT:
  • Colorado has its first split week of the season next week against Stony Brook at home on Thursday, and then versus Dartmouth in a neutral site game in Houston on Sunday. Opening draw against the Seawolves is set for 5 p.m. MT on Mar. 20, and the Buffs look to lock up the Big Green at 11 a.m. MT on Mar. 23. Fans can watch the games on ESPN+ and can follow along via Twitter @CUBuffsWLAX. Tickets for the Stony Brook game can be purchased here.

Game day!

A couple notes:
  • I neglected to include in my thread title and original post that today is yet another nice challenge to get a win over another tough ranked team, as Stony Brook is #18 in the current Coaches' Poll and #19 in Inside Lacrosse's. (In their last game a couple days ago, they more than doubled up #24 DU in Denver on Tuesday, beating the Pios 17-8).
  • Looks like the season is far enough long so that, for the 1st time I've seen, official RPI ratings are now being released by the NCAA (at https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/lacrosse-women/d1/ncaa-womens-lacrosse-rpi). Through games played yesterday, CU is at #33, while Stony Brook is #15 and Dartmouth #31.

Stony Brook is a damn good program.

Most of our schedule has looked like the path of a brutal NCAA tournament draw.

Also, forgot to post congrats to Ms. Hanlon and, for the 3rd straight time, Ms. Oh for the weekly conference honors.

Less than an hour and a half away from the scheduled opening draw in Houston

Note - Since the preview article, the Mean Green earned a convincing 20-10 win over CU's conference-mate ASU a couple days ago.

The game has begun, and it sounds like we may have to rely to social media for ANY updates. (In addition to being a rare game nowadays with no video coverage, Dartmouth posted on social media that its live stats link isn't working today.)

Starters for CU were

Per Dartmouth social media, the Buffs are up 4-2 after the 1st quarter. (Edit - Until I state differently, the next few posts will all be based on Dartmouth social media.)

Good. Our Buffs have been getting out to fast starts lately and we definitely needed it today.

Looks like the defenses ruled the 3rd as Dartmouth got the only goal and lead 7-9 going into the final quarter.

same story. play a pretty good game except for one quarter. Gave up 6 goals in the 2nd and that made then chase and they don't have an offense to chase good teams. Give up 4 goals in the second period it is a different story
