The Buffs host the Bay Area schools in a couple early matinees tomorrow and Saturday, with both games on the Pac 12 Networks. (Just to see how things were going virus-wise, I did check Cal's Twitter account, and they did tweet they flew out almost a day ago towards Colorado.)

Note- As I type this, the Buffs are #10 in the NET rankings, while the visiting Bears and Cardinal are at #197 and #47, respectively.

Go Buffs!!!

Preview (This was a combined preview written before this past Monday's Utah game, so is a few days old. However, neither upcoming opponent has played since Saturday, so should still be pretty accurate and current as regards Cal and Stanford.)

Re their opponents this week:

"
...
Cal (6-7, 1-5) — Mark Fox's Bears are struggling this season. They finally earned a conference win by defeating Washington, 84-78, on Saturday, but they are at or near the bottom of the league in scoring (68.85 ppg), scoring defense (68.92 ppg) and field goal percentage defense (.451).

The Bears' recent struggles — three losses in their last four games — can be attributed in large part to the absence of all-conference guard Matt Bradley, who has been out with an ankle injury. Bradley is averaging nearly 18 points per game, with Cal's next two top scorers — Ryan Foreman and Makale Foreman — averaging just under 11 points each.

It's not known whether Bradley will be available for Thursday's game.

Stanford (8-3, 4-1) — Picked to finish fourth in the Pac-12 preseason media poll, Jerod Haase's Cardinal tested themselves early, defeating Alabama and losing close games to North Carolina and Indiana.

They have since won seven of their last eight, including their last three. They swept the Washington schools over the weekend, and their only conference loss thus far was a 73-56 defeat at Oregon.

The Cardinal has a quality lineup, led by 6-9 senior forward Oscar da Silva, a first team all-conference pick who leads the Pac-12 in scoring at 19.8 points per game. Stanford also has one of the nation's best freshmen, 6-8 forward Ziaire Williams, a five-star recruit who is averaging 11.6 points and 5.9 rebounds.

The Cardinal has been missing senior guard Daejon Davis, out since mid-December with a leg injury.

Stanford is fifth in the Pac-12 — right behind Colorado — in rebound margin, averaging plus-4.73 on the boards this season.

I know I keep harping on this, but has there been any explanation from the conference on why we keep having games played so early in the day?

There are no fans in attendance, so the normal reason of having evening games during the week isn't a factor, when most fans would be off work and able to get to the arena. By spreading out the games during the day, it allows the conference front office people (like Larry) to watch as many games as possible. That way the commissioner can keep an eye on the officiating crews, and impose strict punishment on refs who continually make horrible calls. Tomorrow all the games are mostly staggered, with one instance of an overlap. The 3 PM MST slot has two concurrent games, but the others are strategically placed so there is zero overlap of the standard 2-hour window to play a game in regulation:

I notice Oregon is on a pause due to covid. Question- CU played with some players sitting out due to covid protocol. What causes a complete postponement to occur and does the conference make that call .

Don't know if it's the only criteria for a Pac 12 game to be postponed (???), but I know the Buff women had a game scheduled this past Friday against UCLA that was postponed, and the release said-
"UCLA informed Colorado on Thursday morning that it would not be able to meet the Pac-12's minimum requirement of healthy scholarship players (7).".

(In the Bruin women's case (like when the Buff men cancelled their originally scheduled game at Arizona in early December), I'm GUESSING (???) it was likely short-term positive contact protocol questions that could be quickly resolved rather than having too many actual positive tests among players, as the Bruins did play Utah two days later.)

Is Pac12 trying to set records for lowest viewership? A ****ing noon game on Thursday on Pac12 Network with no fans allowed to be in attendance?

Congratulations MW!

that "crowd noise" sounds like a white noise generator.

Walker plays at such a controlled and calm pace. Still has a decent way to go on D but he’s already made great strides this season. Would love to see him play above the rim a bit more
