Assuming no last minute changes (per a tweet on their account, Arizona did take off towards Colorado earlier today), the Buffs (3-3, 1-2) continue conference play this weekend, facing off against the #6 ranked Wildcats (4-0, 3-0) on Friday evening starting at 5:00 PM (Mountain Time), followed up with a Sunday 3:00 matinee against the Sun Devils (5-2, 1-2).

Video Coverage for both games is on the Pac 12 Networks. (See below for more detail.)

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER – February of 2020 seems like it was ages ago, but in reality, it has been 10 long months. When the Colorado women's basketball takes the court against No. 6 Arizona on Friday (5 p.m. MT), it will have been almost 10 months to the date of the last meeting in Boulder.

That last meeting was a 50-38 Colorado win over the No. 11 team in the nation. That win, marked the Buffaloes' first over an AP-ranked opponent since game three of the 2016-17 season (No. 15 Kentucky). That win was a mark that solidified a likely WNIT bid before the tournament was called off.

Almost 10 months later and that game is now cemented in the past.

"Honestly, we haven't even talked about it with our team," head coach JR Payne explained. "They [the team] knows we beat Arizona. They also know Aari McDonald didn't play. They [Arizona] are a different ballclub with McDonald. She's one of the best players in America. She adds a different dynamic to their team."
...

Arizona (4-0, 3-0 Pac-12) offers up another tall task on the Pac-12 schedule. The Buffs hold a 17-7 all-time advantage over the Wildcats but are just 1-4 in the last five meetings. McDonald landed on numerous preseason award watch lists and is the NCAA's active leading scorer with 1,846 career points. The Wildcats picked up Pac-12 wins against No. 9 UCLA, USC and Arizona State. Friday's game will be Arizona's first road contest of the season.

Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT. Thad Anderson and former Buff Kami Carmann Snyder will have the call on the Pac-12 Networks. The game will also be available on the TuneIn app and the Colorado Radio Network (CUBuffs.com/Listen).

Game notes - Not available as I type this.

I'm sure others think I'm crazy but I never like announcers other than Cory and Carol, so I sync the audio to the tv. I can't look at live stats until between quarters and halftime because I'm at least a minute behind.

So far, all of the Pac-12 games have been on the national network so I've been able to watch on television instead of a computer.

Buffs up 27-20 at the half over the #6 cats.
(Both offenses went VERY quiet/ cold in the 2nd quarter, but the Buffs outscore UA 9-5 during the period.)

A little extra on this game- former Buff (a F/C from 1999-2001) Kami Carmann is providing color commentary on the Pac 12 Network coverage, evidently the 1st time she's done this (at least for the Pac 12 Network?).

Wildcats rallied to go up by a point or two earlier in the 3rd, but then great perseverance by the Buffs (featuring valuable production from bench players) leads to a 51-42 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.

TOUGH loss but still a good effort by the Buffs which should be a good sign for them going forward if they keep working hard, as they end up losing 59-62 to the #6 Cats. (Arizona went to a full-court press in the 4th which cost the Buffs a few possessions, and the Buff free throw (3-12 in the 4th quarter and 11-22 overall) and field goal (2-13 in the 4th) shooting didn't help.)

Just need to shake this one off and get ready for the sun devils on Sunday.

really disappointed in this loss. It had nothing to do with the Wildcats, but the fact CU could not hit a shot or a foul shot in the 4th quarter. They had a chance to put down the 6th ranked team and they screwed it up with their inept shooting

Buffs choked this one away with horrible shooting, both from the floor and from the free throw line, in the fourth quarter. For three quarters they out-played the #6 Arizona but then gave it away. Fourth quarter shooting: 15% from the floor 25% on free throws. UGH!

If this game happened in last season, I would use "encouraging performance" to describe it.

There is no other word other than "disappointing" to describe this game. Both the coaches and some players need to share the blames.

No excuse for all the missed free throws. They missed 9 in the 4th quarter and got beat by 3.

In the 4th quarter, the usually reliable Mya and Jaylyn were the ones at the free throw line.

Arizona shot 21 free-throws and made 17 free-throws. CU shot 22 free-throws and made 11 free-throws. Six point difference and the game. Field goal and three point percentage were about equal. Looking at all of the stats, a very even game except in the free-throw department.

Not sure how you fix that.

Simple, work on it and have some damn confidence in it. 11 of 22 from the line is terrible. It's a good way to lose though, it is an important part of the game.

Well JR answered my question at the press conference by saying the players will have opportunities to work on free-throw shooting. Seemed like this loss took the air out of her and I can appreciate her frustration.

On a positive note, Frida Formann sounded like a senior and not a freshman in answering questions. She seems like a veteran already.

PG has 5 bad turnovers and misses 5 free throws. Mya disappeared in Q4 again. Team lacks leadership.

Frida nailed a clutch 3 pointer at the end of the game. It’s obviously hard to tell from tv, but she appears to be very confident and show signs of leadership. She looks like a great find so far.

According to this article in CU Independent, Jaylen was back in the arena last night after the game shooting free throws. She knows what she needs to do.

Brian Howell's article said Jaylen was shooting free throws after the game as was Kin Wright.

I am still impressed with Frida Formann, but she can't be the only player. It's a team sport and it takes 5 players.

DU got beaten badly by CSU last night. During the game I was seeing the DU twitter feed bragging about the 3 pointers made. That doesn't matter if you don't score hardly any two point shots and get beat by 20 points.

Sorry, that’s just showmanship. You want to be better in the game; practice before it. Also, there are two other gyms available to shoot in, just no press or spectators.

We'll have to agree to disagree if you believe that.
To me, Jaylen knew that she had not made some shots that she needed to make. And with another game coming up in just 2 days, she took the first opportunity she had to get back on the court, in the gym that was open, and shoot a bunch of those shots. To figure out why she was missing and correct whatever needed correcting. To get back her confidence in her shot, To me that's a dedicated baller not a showman.

Why would anyone think Jaylynn was trying to be a showman. She wanted to correct her shot so it doesn't keep happening.

She had gone to the coaches previously about working on finishing her shots. The kid wants to win. Nothing wrong with that.

It's not like there were fans in the gym or anyone else she was trying to impress.
