The WBB team finishes their regular season in L.A.. The Buffs seem to be playing a lot better now, which will hopefully lead to a BIG improvement to their results from the last time they faced the Angelino squads, as they lost by a combined 73 points to the Bruins and Trojans ~ a month and a half ago in Boulder.

As noted in the article quoted below, IF the Utes beat the Trojans in their game Thursday, sounds like the Buffs would probably end up playing the Trojans twice in a row, as they would also be their 1st round conference tournament foe (unless WSU can sweep the Bay Area schools and the Buffs lose both this week in which case the Cougars move up to the #9 seed).

Hope the Buffs complete the regular season STRONG!

BOULDER – Colorado's women's basketball team will head to Los Angeles this week to wrap up the regular season at No. 10 UCLA and Southern California. The Buffs (14-13, 5-11 Pac-12) are taking a two-game winning streak into the weekend, their best stretch of Pac-12 play since 2015 as they defeated Washington and Washington State this past weekend.

Thursday's game at UCLA tips off at 9 p.m. MT and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. Saturday's game at USC will not be televised and but starts at 2 p.m. Both games will be on the radio in the Denver area on 630 KHOW. Saturday's pregame radio show will be cut short due to previously-scheduled programming, but will join the action just before tipoff.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
UCLA (21-6, 12-4 Pac-12), which was perhaps the hottest team in the conference entering this past weekend, had its 10-game winning streak snapped on Friday in overtime at No. 15 Oregon State. The Bruins lost again Monday night in overtime, falling 101-94 at No. 8 Oregon.

The Bruins are led by seniors Jordin Canada and Monique Billings, and a supporting cast of several other standouts. Canada, a 5-foot-6 senior, was an honorable mention All-American last season and is averaging 16.0 points, 6.7 assists and 3.1 steals this season. She had one of her best performances of her career at Oregon, finishing with 26 points and 13 assists on 9-of-17 shooting.

Billings is a 6-4 senior who averaged a double-double last season and has averaged 14.8 points and 9.7 rebounds so far this season. She had 26 points and 10 rebounds at Oregon and has 14 double-doubles this season.
...

USC didn't fare quite as well as the Bruins this past weekend in Oregon, dropping both games, but taking the Ducks to double overtime on Friday. The Trojans are still 17-10 overall and 7-9 in the Pac-12, despite the two-game losing streak, and handled CU in Boulder on Jan. 12 to the tune of an 86-51 victory.

Not much has changed since that meeting in Boulder as USC still plays just six or seven players each game. Kristen Simon, a 6-2 senior, leads the team in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (8.7). She has 10 double-doubles this season, including 26 points and 15 rebounds at Oregon and 16 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday at OSU.
...

PAC-12 TOURNAMENT:
CU will open the Pac-12 Tournament next week in Seattle at KeyArena. The Buffs currently would have the No. 9 seed in the tournament and would play the No. 8 seed. At the moment, USC holds the No. 8 seed, one game behind Utah. If USC defeats Utah this weekend, the Trojans would move ahead of Utah, and would set up a first-round tournament matchup between CU and Utah.

The Buffs are virtually locked into the No. 9 seed unless they lose both games and Washington State wins both of its games this weekend, in which case the Cougars would bump the Buffs to No. 10 due to a tiebreaker. USC could also tie CU for eighth place if CU wins both games and USC loses both games this weekend.

This one already looks like it could get ugly; hopefully the Buffs have a comeback. Down 5-17 at 1st media timeout. UCLA running hard on offense and pressuring full-court on D (and have the athletes to do both effectively), while Buffs have actually had some decent shots, but haven't made much.

Announcers also saying Ms. Correal, who still started, has been fighting illness (featuring a 103 degree fever) the last couple days.

Buffs with a nice run behind an 8 point scoring run (all points by Ms. Robinson) to get it down to 13-17, but then UCLA gets the last points of the 1st and it's 14-23 at the end of the quarter. (The Buffs almost had it down to one, but in a call you don't see often, they called a walk on Ms. Hollingshed on a 3 she made where she got the pass and IMMEDIATELY stopped and popped the shot.)

Buffs doing some good things (the pressure zone defense looking pretty good), and after the rough start, it's 27-35 ucla at the half.

Buff's hanging tough- it's 36-42 at the 3rd quarter media timeout.

Ms. Robinson with 21 of the Buff's 36 points, and is on the line after the TO. (Announcers say her career high is 26.) The most any other player has is 3.

And it's 43-56 at the end of the 3rd, as UCLA's star point guard Canada, who I believe was scoreless well into the 3rd, goes off late and now has 14.

Buffs have it down to 4 (54-58) with around 6 minutes left in the 4th. TO ucla. (A. Robinson already has set her new career high, and has 27.)

Still 4 points down at the media timeout (57-61) with Robinson hitting the 30 point mark with a 3 after ucla had hit one.

UCLA makes a 3, the Buffs miss there's; Buffs have to foul 3 straight times to get ucla to the bonus (losing potentially valuable seconds); ucla makes its 2 free throws. They're up 5 with 27 seconds left.

And it's a 67-73 tight loss. Still a GREAT effort the team should be very proud of. (In one of those "if only" things, impressive the Buffs were so close while having a bad shooting night. One or two more lay-ups; one or two more threes (many of which were wide open- still only hit .259 from 3).)

Amazing effort. No quit in this team. Take this confidence into Saturday's game.
Only saw a bit of the game on the live stream. Buffs really didn't give up, even when UCLA would go on run.

Stats for the game were very even, but UCLA shot a bit higher percent than the Buffs. Rebounds were about the same as were turnovers.

Looks like Alexis is full recovered from her knee surgery.

A win at USC would make them eligible for an WNIT bid.

Buffs with a big deficit in the 4th quarter.

Tough year. This team lost their best post player and probably 3rd best scorer in Bunn for unknown reasons. With the close games we had, I think it's hard to say we wouldn't have won another game or two which would've been an improvement from last year.

This team has been through a lot since the visit from UCLA and USC to Boulder. They gave it their all today. They just don't have the bodies to keep up.

As JR said in the post game interview, look at rebounding in the second half. It told the story. Team has to get stronger and they will. They also add Cam and Peanut next year. Hopefully ready to play.

Not having Knight available hurt today and not having another post player. Mya will be better after working on a weight program in the off season.

Just wish the live stream would have worked.

I have to keep this in mind which I am evaluating this season and especially the last month or so.

I hope the coaches can still add to the 2018 recruiting class. We sure could use another post player at a minimum.
Agreed. We have no idea if Bunn will be back, and even if she is they need another post anyway. She needs to be good enough to be a starter too, not just depth.
