Hardest schedules in the country......

Lol no sir-UCLA is!

I think they colossally overrate both LA teams. I see Utah going 8-4 or 9-3 and winning the division, and then I see the other 5 finishing somewhere between 3-9 (Arizona) and 7-5. I think USC goes 5-7 or 6-6, too-and I also think we're beating them for the first time this year. They're either going to lose a game they shouldn't (Fresno State or at BYU) or get absolutely punked by both Washington and Notre Dame (who they play back to back sandwiched around a bye), and Clay Helton will be gone and their season will have spiraled out of control before they get here.
Returning starters is weighted heavily in pre-season model, thus UCLA. No media involved. Thanks for link.

Regarding USC, I think Harrell and Team Texas have a good chance to stabilize USC O. If so, look out. They could hang 40 by half-time.

How do you explain Wazzu success in P12?

Generally the 2nd or 3rd best team in their division. Not bad at all for a team which needs to go gimmick due to recruiting disadvantages. They also have the best Air Raid coach.

USC has all of the recruiting advantages. Why would going gimmick benefit them?

I guess the one argument for it is that the only program in the country to run it (or a variation of it) with blue chip talent is OU...

This is what interests me. If nothing else, I’m curious to see results with premium playmaker talent and a decent D. Run correctly (and I like the OU version much better than Wazzu), it puts stress of the defense with space, talent and match-up problems.

Harrell is a smart cat. Brought his Texas boys with him. Connects with kids. And reportedly Helton is out of the way.

I’ll be a curious observer.

High floor, low ceiling, and that’s with the Air Raid coach being there for 8 years.

7 wins/year on avg, finishing better than 3rd in their own division only twice
Those are fair criticisms. He’s done it with less than elite talent. Will wait and watch what USC does with Harrell’s version and talent.

Too heavily, and I still think FPI is a flawed metric. Utah is the favorite to win the South again, and its not that close in my opinion. As far as USC, I expect them to be better-but what number is acceptable to keep Helton? Sure as **** ain't 7-5. Let's talk about the first month of that schedule-Fresno is going to be down.......but I expect that to be a game going into the 4th quarter. Too good a program with too good a football coach in charge of it. They should beat BYU-but they're playing Washington and Notre Dame in back to back games, and both are on the road. Best case scenario for the first quarter of their season is 2-2 IMO-and does Helton survive that?

Have we ever really seen an air raid team truly be a legitimate contender?

Not one that actually won it all, that I recall? Some of the old school still applies, to be the last team standing. Nice seasons, sure, if that's all you're looking for.
