Has Jon Embree's behavior today damaged the University and football program?

I know he's emotional, it has to be hard. But has his behavior today done serious damage to the University he proclaims to love, and the kids on the team he claims to love? Instead of getting up and taking responsibility for his failures like a man, he has instead deflecting blame every which way but to himself. He has spent the afternoon going on radio shows with sympathetic hosts where he has attacked the University and undermined Mike Bohn.

How is the team supposed to heal and show unity going forth? How are they supposed to buy into a new coaching staff? Has the behavior of Embree today poisoned the coaching search?

Dan Hawkins - the most hated coach in my memory, a coach with no history at the school - had a nice, classy press conference when he left. He set the stage for Embree as far as healing with the players goes. Embree seems content to take everyone down with him when he leaves.

Barnett and Danny left with class, even though they were both pissed as hell. I lost all respect for Jon today. Despite his view that he has been screwed, he should have taken the high road.

But it is all irrelevant if we get a top notch coach in here. No damage done by Jon's pathetic behavior if that happens....Klatt and all of these other dumb ****s will crawl back into their holes.

Clearly he lost his dream job and was really upset about it. After watching that today I am actually really concerned about attrition in this program. And I love JE and thought he was an amazing leader..... UNTIL TODAY. You don't get fired cause you cant perform and turn around and blame the school, the AD, the admin etc. Ultimately its your team and your ass. What he showed today was classless. I did feel bad for him and I thought he had one more year.... But he should absolutely have taken a quick lesson in how to be graceful in bowing out.

I don't think Embree has the backing of the public to do that. He wasn't an all time great Buff player, he was 4-21 as a coach and the student section was empty for much of the year. The Pro-Embree factions are vastly outnumbered by the ones that are pissed about how ****** we are in the football program. Just because a couple of clown radio hosts support him doesn't mean much.

The healing process will start when we start winning games. There is no evidence whatsoever that things were going to change anytime soon under Embree

Embree and several others have shown their true colors today. It's sad to see and makes it much more understandable that CU wanted to get the program away from these folks.

It is a shame that these guys are apparently going to continue to try to divide the Buff faithful, when they have a chance to move forward.

There was a time when people said "no one person is bigger than the program" - but that must not be true any longer.

I've lost all respect for Embree but I don't think he damaged CU much. Sounds a lot like sour grapes to me. He needs to man the **** up and admit he failed.

Agree that I wish he'd taken the high road, at least publicly, but I also realize that it's also a lot easier for me to say when it's somebody else getting fired under what he considers to be unjust circumstances.

Remember the look on GB's face during his farewell presser? He was pissed! Almost as mad as when we were not picked to play in the BCS final in 2001....

But GB had the grace to say that CU was a future gold mine. I always appreciated him for that.....

I've lost some respect for him, but he's having a really bad day. Poor guy, but I wish he'd be looking out for the future of the team.

Embree's rant, when considered together with his pre-firing "plan" to throw Brown and Cabral under the bus, while leaving EC in place, just adds to his miserable downfall. They were your hires , Jon. Man up!

Consider your Buff card revoked, Jon!

Embree's rant may cost him some money. But probably not. Sad he went out this way.

This really isn't a big story, especially outside of Colorado. The 15 minutes is almost up.

You know, this is a point I haven't heard much commentary on today. If JE had kicked Cabral (& GB) to the curb, would there be such outrage amongst the former player media people about loyalty, 2 years not enough time, etc. regarding Cabral??? Seems to me Brian Cabral has invested and dedicated himself MUCH more than any of these guys to this football program.

I will admit that I am in no way connected but I am utterly shocked at how bad Jon handled this mess. Did anyone in the know see this coming? I realize this was his dream job but come on man. He acts like it's the first time that he has ever been canned. Reminds me of a high school chick going ape **** to anyone who will listen cause she just got dumped by the love of her life.

I think Embree damaged his future today. Bad timing for the presser, a couple days to cool down would have done wonders. He said on Logan's show that he was surprised the team was present, maybe it throttled his explanation. There is way too much that happened in the background for us to understand. Good luck Jon, but good riddance. The performance this year didn't earn you another year. There just wasn't enough indication that you were on top of it, or able to be on top of it. Next time, fire some coordinators when you realize they are incompetent. It was apparent very early this year.

No. Everybody besides us has already forgotten the story or never saw the press conference.

I was astonished by the mob mentality of the media today. Absolutely did not anticipate them buying into the Embree as the victim narrative so fully.

I think the university was in a bad spot - because if they deny him an exit press conference, then there is outrage over that as well. But in retrospect, he was in no place to be paraded in front of the media this morning. His press conference was a reflection of his overly emotional coaching style. I genuinely feel for the guy, you can tell he is devastated, but I do believe he could have handled it more professionally.

Not going to mean that much in the long run. Embree was rash today and his behavior was really pretty predictable. Openly spoke his mind right to the end but no one will remember this down the road any more than they remember who was #2 in the AP poll 5 years ago.

Embree did a horrible job at being professional today. I don't think his actions/comments today damaged the program unless he causes a large number of current players to jump ship. That said, his behavior did fuel the fire for local radio media to go after CU and for national media to further disparage the state of the program.

Absolutely he fed the ultimate assist to blood thirsty reporters and pseudo journalists. I like Jon but frankly he took the low road and went out like a bitch.

The rumor was that the 'Embo Camp' was very aggressive with other media members to mold the narrative

That makes sense. The thing that really bugs me is that casual observers are inclined to believe that the local media members who are former Buffs have the pulse of the entire organization. When in fact they are acting mostly out of self interest and loyalty to friends.

He had 2 years to turn around a program. Two years is not enough. I would be angry too if the institution that was purportedly committed to him gave him the ax after such a brief time. Kyle Whittingham had a perfect season 2 or 3 years ago. Now, his team is a clunker. He's a a good coach, Utah has comparable talent to CU this year, and Embree almost won....I don't understand this mentality that people have that numerous coaches could have done ten times better with the talent CU has. Has any team ever started this many freshmen, suffered this many injuries to seniors and done ample times better?

That is a fair position GeauxBuffs - but I think one major aspect of all this there were no signs of progress. We were last in nearly every statistical category. Recruiting was in the tank. Why suffer through a year of someone you know isn't the right guy? All you do there is decimate your fan base and mess up your revenue

No one asked for a 2-year turnaround. What we couldn't accept is that in year two of the rebuild that on top of historically bad results that recruiting would plummet to last in the conference with players de-committing and others telling reporters that they are looking to do so.

yeah you're all right. he should have just stuck his tail between his legs and walked away. how dare he defend himself. anyone that thinks jon embree was the one that hurt this university today, and not mike bohn, is a fool.
