Herbert to return for senior season

Good for him, the almighty dollar will be there for him next year.
Imagine not cashing a $25-$30m no risk lottery ticket this year so you can risk it all and hopefully cash it in next year!

Every player should take as much money as they possibly can, while they can. Just my opinion, of course.

Think about it this way- if he's a franchise guy that will be making $30m per year until he retires, he just cost himself one year off the length of his career (rookie contract starting in 2020 instead of 2019), so he probably cost himself tens of millions of dollars. He's healthy, and it's a meager QB draft now.

Nothing Oregon could offer is worth that.

I don't disagree with any point you've made on the topic, but we all have to respect players decisions when they leave so I have no problem with him staying, well, other than abusing our secondary.

Exactly, and I don’t think there’s much evidence to support that an extra year in the college game is a better way to prepare for the NFL than just going to the NFL and sitting for a year.

I don't think Milton really had the opportunity. I haven't seen anyone saying he's going to be a pro QB.
My point was about there being different kinds of risk. Love being a projected high draft pick whose stock has plummeted, and Milton being an example of significant injury risk.

Its his decision.....he has all the tools....just needs a little refining....that said if josh Allen can go as high as he did I’m sure Herbert would have been a top 5 pick....hard to pass up those $

1. His brother is going to be a freshman right? How much is he really going to play.
2. That Oregon offense isn’t like it was under chip but it is still a run dominated, limited read system that probably isn’t going to prepare him for much for the nfl.
3. If you want to talk about being set up for success in the pros than this was the year to leave with most of the teams at the top of the draft having quarterbacks already. Getting selected by a mid tier team with talent that is moving up for a QB is a great situation and will be vastly different next year.
4. Worrying about graduation right now is short sided, you can always come back.

Any way you look at this it is a very questionable decision. It just rarely seems to work to come back, especially with the injuries he has had at Oregon already.

Could Kyler decide to give the NFL a shot before baseball? He'd have to give up his baseball $$ from the As, but could give the NFL a shot and if it doesn't work out in 3-4 years, give baseball another shot. Probably not the safest bet, but a lot of people believe he likes football more than baseball.

He should definitely try baseball first with his size. If he was bigger I would say he can decide whichever one he likes better but that is a big risk to go football first like he is. Much easier to play baseball and go back to football than the opposite.

You think? I think football at the NFL level passes him by, especially as a QB, within two years of being away from it. I think teams are already weary of his size at the position, but are intrigued right now. That wears off very quickly if he chooses baseball first, IMO.

Oh yeah, baseball is just too dependent on skills and repetition to take time off and go completely in on football. He could come back and knock some rust off in the nfL fairly quickly and even though he is an intriguing prospect that’s just a huge risk for him. This isn’t a Russell Wilson we are talking about who is solid as hell, Murray is small and we have all seen how easy it is for those types of players to get banged up and hurt pretty quickly in their career.

Herbert staying is another reason the Broncos need to wait until 2020 to draft a QB. Not because I like Herbert but because QB is the position that teams will reach the most on, Herbert pulling himself out of the mix in 2019 makes the QB class even weaker and thus will have teams reaching in the 1st round for 3rd and 4th round talent. Meanwhile the 2020 class should be loaded if guys like Tua and Fromm declare.

I do not understand why he is making this declaration before the Bowl Game??? He has until January 15th, so why not play the bowl game and if he goes 25-25 for 350 yards and 4 TD's, then he cannot stay if he is smart. This is weird that a guy of this level (rated #6 overall NFL prospect and #1 QB) to just say I am coming back before a bowl game and before you see if Haskins is coming out? Honestly, if Montez would have had a better final 4-5 games, he would have a legit decision to make because the QB options are so low, and teams will take QB's in the first round to get that 5th year. Shoot, you will likely see the Patriots take a QB this time?

Allen went back to school didn’t he?

I’m currently reading The Book of Five Rings.

Miyamoto Musashi would disagree with your assessment.
