i am, however, going to hold him absolutely responsible if they fail to deliver again next year.
since you like the "what if" game, what if they do get it done?can we get a siggy bet going? :smile2:
i am, however, going to hold him absolutely responsible if they fail to deliver again next year.
Paul Johnson took over Georgia Tech this year and implemented his SYSTEM with players that WEREN'T EVEN RECRUITED with his system in mind. They went 9-3 in his first year. They rushed for an average of 283 yards per game and passed for an average of 95 yards per game.
And here are the Georgia Tech linemen, for those of you who claim youth and inexperience with the linemen was the major problem with the Colorado offense:
LT- a freshman!! replaced a senior toward the end of the season
LG-junior
C-junior
RG-freshman!!
RT- a sophomore!! replaced a senior toward the end of the season
That is 2 juniors, 1 sophomore and 2 freshman starters for cryin' out loud in their last 3 games. Two of those games they RUSHED for more than 400 yards.
That is a system. On the other hand, for 3 years the Colorado
offense has looked like playground plays are drawn up in the dirt in the parking lot next to the practice fields from week to week.
The haphazard hybrid shotgun put in for this year did not work.
Will we see some type of system next year? Perhaps starting with a sound running game is in order. Then work into a passing game that uses the entire field and all of the weapons. Can "one of the brightest young offensive minds in the country" come up with a system? I think he can if he is capable of learning and getting better. I'm waiting.
What do you folks say who think this haphazard hybrid shotgun offense will work so well next year? Keep up drawing playground plays in the parking lot or develop a system? A system that includes running the football and passing all over the field.
what were the ratings of those offensive linemen out of HS? If they were anywhere near as low as our guys's, I will be shocked. plus didn't those frosh not step in until the end of the season?I have never called for Dan to be relieved of the head coach position. I believe he can be a very successful coach at Colorado. When you look at the success Georgia Tech had with a completely new system with players that probably didn't even know what the option was, then someone was doing something right. Particularly when their starting offensive line included 2 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 2 freshmen for the last 3 games of the season. The excuse that the Colorado offensive line was the problem does not hold water.
What Dan needs to do is open his eyes to what the offense has done the past 3 years and INSIST on an offense that runs the ball with authority, passes the ball all over the field, scores points and holds onto the ball with a lead and the clock running down to win games. The offense has been a complete shambles regardless of the offensive line situation. It isn't a shambles because of the offensive line situation. Look at Georgia Tech with 2 juniors, 1 sophomore and 2 freshmen linemen starting in their last 3 games, 2of which they run for more than 400 yards. That's not pure luck.
The Colorado offense really does look like a random assortment of plays drawn up in the dirt. The overall scheme, play design, game plan, in game adjustments, and play calling sequence has been poor with the exception of a small handful of games over 37 games and 3 seasons. This season has been particularly bad and it is not entirely the fault of offensive line problems.
If Dan won't make any changes in the coaching staff he had better insist that the offensive coaches come up with something that works.
i said long ago that of all your proposals for pitchfork crew, the special teams made the most sense. my opinion has not changed.
i note that your stance remains generallized.
Not really. If you would bother to read my posts, the only coach I have called for to be fired is Riddle. I'm willing to give every other coach another year to prove themselves. Just because I criticize them a bit, doesn't mean I want them all fired.
Don't bother, BB. Trust me on this. She sees what she wants to see and you will never convince her otherwise.
Ok, now take away five of those players and take away three of the four projected running backs. Now we have Colorado.Paul Johnson took over Georgia Tech this year and implemented his SYSTEM with players that WEREN'T EVEN RECRUITED with his system in mind. They went 9-3 in his first year. lb, a sig bet wouldn't make me happy at all. if i "win" that would mean i took the position that CU was going to fail next year. and failing makes me miserable even if i were to win some sig bet. and if i were to lose such bet, it would mean that you took the position that CU kicks ass next year and i took the other side. that would also make me miserable because i'd be going against my Buff nature. so, this would be a lose-lose offer you've made.
i think you must know that i don't want CU to fail. so, by extension, i want hawk to succeed in a big way. i have some questions and doubts but that doesn't mean i've stopped supporting my team.
play fair, for chrissakes! :smile2:
its a fair offer :smile2: i luv ya liver.
I see there are a couple more apologists for the DCF playground offense. The offense was POORLY DESIGNED BEFORE the offensive line problems. Do I have to take you directly to the root of the problem? Here is a hint... the offensive problems can be traced back 8-10 years to Boise by connecting a few dots that aren't too hard to find. Keep making excuses and I'll clue you guys directly into what I'm talking about sooner or later. I've been a student of the game for 23 years longer than Helfrich has been alive and I ain't senile yet. I know what I'm talking about. I'm tired of some people playing their personal games with the Colorado football program. When "one of the brightest young offensive minds in the country" finally wakes up and does what he should be doing, and actually accomplishes what he should be doing, I'll lay off.
damn, you should have been a lawyer. the first step is to convince yourself that the utter bs leaving your mouth is not only fair but reasonable. once you've convinced yourself, convincing others is not impossible.

come now. the rabble has called for burning heads of doom. you will disappoint them. they surely know more than the coaching staff.
fair nuff. Even my patience with helfy is limited. However, I think helfy gets only one more year to show he can improve. He will still have a young offense next year, but there is no way CU should be unable to run the ball, no matter what.I see there are a couple more apologists for the DCF playground offense. Yes, perhaps "the rabble" has. However, as nobody posting in this thread has called for anything remotely resembling a "burning head of doom", I am a bit unclear as to the relevance of this observation in the context of this particular conversation....
what exactly do you suppose their point is? that they want another umbrella drink?
So you're just going to assume that anyone questioning coaches wants them fired. Nice.
what exactly do you suppose their point is? that they want another umbrella drink?
okay. how about we start with you? your soapbox moment. in your criticism of the coaches, what is it you want to accomplish? i recall you have called for firing of coaches, and you are in favor of a very short timeline on hawk. a year? right?
so how is it i am jumping to the wrong conclusion, which for the record, is no more than, "hahaha. look at the people going off again."
and, i don't even like umbrella drinks. well, i guess if you put an umbrella in a bourbon, i'd probably manage thru my issues.
You don't recall very well at all. I think Hawk deserves to be here through the 2010 season. I think we will have a good idea of whether he will ultimately be a success next year though.
It is a message board. People share their thoughts. I know it is shocking that people wouldn't be happy after a 5-7 season, but it happens. People like to talk football on this board. Talking about the team lacking an offensive identity seems like something worthwhile discussing, but apparently you disagree. Instead of adding anything meaningful to the thread (besides a one or two sentence post mentioning injuries), however, you choose to rip on other posters. Good work!
