How vanilla was CU against CSU?

Vanilla on offense. I think SM threw downfield maybe 5 times. Lots of short stuff and YAC. After seeing Montez hit KD in stride and that perfect TD pass to JW...I can’t wait to see us get aggressive down field.

I did not count but I would be surprised if we used more than 12 different plays all game. You know Chev would love nothing more than putting 60 up on Nebraska. I would bet the house Chev is going to open things up and we will see a few trick plays as well.

We mentioned how Chev was 6-0 as a player and coach against CSU. Well as a player against Nebraska, he was 0-4. This may be personal for him. If we’re up late again this week, I can’t see them taking their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter.

Too bad those of us watching on TV didn't get to see the first two drives.

I saw them online.

It was pretty obvious from the first play that CSU couldn't set the edge and that Viska was way too fast for their front 7.

Just hope we only show 20% of the playbook this weekend. Need to save most of it for November.

No. If this were New Hampshire, I'd agree, but two things here. One, the obvious. There's not a fan of this program who doesn't want to ruin Scott Frost's debut as head coach by boatracing Nebraska. Our OC wants to hang 50 on them I can guarantee you. Two, this is one of the best chances for exposure (especially with respect to recruiting) we've had in a number of years. We play in the afternoon on ABC. You do not hide the playbook for conference play in a situation like this. Period.

I am not sure we will have to get a lot more creative on O to win this game. And if the D steps up just a bit from last week, we win going away. This is a bad corn team on D and their O is going to struggle if we contain and stay home in our lanes. Get past the emotions and hype of the first 5 min and I think we are looking at a beat down.

I am pretty sure you are incorrect. Never show full playbook until after Thanksgiving. Never show more than 20% before October.

We can debate who is correct until I have to leave for the game on Friday, but I don't agree with you in this instance. You play to win the game, Duff. If that means showing more to our conference opponents than we might like, oh well.

I grade it at 3 scoops

Like many have mentioned, we didn't do a lot of crazy. Our offense was a little too efficient to have to worry about that - a bunch of really long scoring plays with YACatch/Contact.
But the fact that Neb has to worry about the deep ball from someone OTHER than Shenault, a 100 yard rusher who can juke AND steamroll, a running QB that can score long on the option, H backs, possibility of the wildcat, and THEEEEN Shenault, plus whatever other mind maddening plays Chev can come up with. Kinda brutal.

this is going to be a super-interesting game... so much different than any previous fusker game... we don't "know" this program anymore... i would love to see us come out and put up 14 in the first 3 minutes and toss them back on their heels, but we don't know for sure what they are going to try to do on defense to stop that. i believe if we can adjust quickly to create the mismatches that seem to exist, then we are going to put up some points. in addition to the "how quickly can we adjust" story that will be fascinating, another thing i really wonder about is our relative talent level to theirs. i can't wait to see who has the athletes and where. and, the 3rd really intriguing thing for me is the intangibles-- these guys had our number but everything is changed-- coaches, conferences, players, and the number of fans who still burn the high heat hate. their first game, returning hero new coach, a true frosh qb....

this is going to be fun.

The air raid is by design very simple and relies on reads by the qb and receivers. Leach has been known to only have around 6 plays in a given game.

I should add, even though we are not a true air raid, the concepts remain and the philosophy doesn't change in keeping it simple but executing at a very high level.

It didn't look like we showed much to me. Unlike the previous OC, when Chev had a play that was working, he kept calling it.

My problem with Eliot is his lack of creativity-I've never seen a defender on the LOS as if he's going to blitz pre-snap and then drop back into coverage in the two years he's been here. The more Adrian Martinez has to think on Saturday, the better for us.
You're drinkond too much man. We did that numerous times and do it often.

I watched for this specifically while watching a replay last night. I would say we fake pressure only to drop back about 40% of the time. I also noticed the slot DB blitzing a handful of times.

I can’t tell if you’re both being sarcastic or just Duff.

What I liked about our game plan is that we clearly made it a priority to attack CSU's weaknesses. We knew that getting our speed to the outside would be trouble for them and it was. But we overall we kept the attack fairly simple.

My opinion is you'll see a few more wrinkles this week and thankfully Chev is way more malleable in his game plan than Lindgren was.
