Could Hawkins let Darrell Scott play a few series, and score a touchdown? Put him in on the goal line? I think he has worked hard and deserves the honor of a freakin touchdown. Why the wont they alternate Darrell in with Speedy? Like Buckhalter and Moreno combination works well for Broncos. I agree with those that would like to see a fullback in front of Darrell Scott.
Is it that hard to quickly change to an I-formation, hand off to DS 75% of the time from the formation and 25% throw play action to the TE to keep the defense honest..I find this (benching of Scott) equally as annoying as the QB situation, which will hopefully take a turn for the better against Kansas. Maybe if they could serve beer again at Folsom we could ignore the poor coaching on the field, and just enjoy being at Folsom Field on a Saturday evening :drink2:.

Funny you should compare the Buffs OL with the OL of Denver. Darrell Scott is not a god. He's a guy who power runs up the gut. Football is a team sport and he needs his OL to play better for this to happen.

Anyhow---I dont understand the obsession with DS. I want him to get a few carries too, more carries than he's getting now. Changing the offense to suit him?? Nah, I dont get it. He showed up to fall practice out of shape. If he had worked out all summer he might have unseated Stewart. You can't build muscle up in a few days time. Back in '94 we had an incredible group of seniors who stayed in Boulder all summer and dragged the underclassmen to Dal Ward to keep them in shape and it paid off.

I see DS as a smart kid who will learn from the out of shape mistake and in the next 2 years being a serious contributor. Right now the OL is not opening the kinds of lanes that Scott needs. Stewart is a more slippery guy and he's one of the fastest players on the field (we need more speed. see Urban Meyer).

I understand that Jason's sure-handed, but I cannot be convinced that coaches could not teach Brian to catch a punt consistently during the off-season. There are some punts that the blockers have a wall lined up, or there is room to run (one in particular during the TX game, but I was drunk and had an obstructed view of the field). But, Espinoza simply wasn't fast enough to get to the wall or make the initial tackler miss. I would also like him out doing kick returns too instead of Scott.

I think everyone wants to see Scott get the ball more, and I don't believe that he's doing all of this to himself. I simply don't trust the coaching staff anymore (save for Brown, Cabral and to a certain extent Kiesau). Someone made the point that he doesn't see the holes when he's in - WHAT HOLES?! He got some holes during Toledo, and that's about it. During Texas, there were no holes the few carries he got. With a ****ty OLine, Stewart works better, due to his elusiveness. If our OLine starts to pick it up like their talent (HS resumes) would suggest, Scott will blow up. He needs the opportunities though.

I actually believe the problem in the running game is based on poor offensive planning and lack of a long threat.

CU has lacked effective game planning under Hawkins. They don't set up anything offensively. Also lack of a Deep threat makes it difficult to run the ball. The safeties can edge up. I think one of the reasons that Texas struggles running the ball is because Colt McCoy doesn't have a deep threat this year.

Kansas can run effectively because they do have a deep threat.

CU has plenty of talent in the Backfield...Stewart, Scott, Sumbler and Lockridge are all good backs. Some knock Sumber but he is a North South runner who hits the hole hard.

Darrell the symbol overshadows Darrell the person.

As a symbol, he represents what all CU fans desire...to be a school that is worthy of landing the #1 RB in the country. Darrell provides an opportunity to break the trend of Marcus Houston and Brian Calhoun, both who were highly recruited at the RB position, but transferred elsewhere. If Darrell were in the running for a heisman and showed that he were on the trajectory to play on Sunday (against teams not called CSU), then that bodes well for the program. As a symbol, CU needs Darrell to be a smashing success in a CU uniform.

As a person, Darrell has not played as well as Rodney. You can talk about finding a rhythm or about the O-Line or about field of vision 'til the cows come home. But Rodney has earned his role as a starter by finding holes, holding on to the ball, and bringing his best from the first snap to the last.

If the team is going to lose anyway, why not give your five-star recruit every chance to run for over 1,500 yards? That would certainly help CU attract big recruits kind of like what Cabral has done with linebackers.

That would't be fair to Rodney. And right now, Rodney is the best playmaker this offense has. As much as I want to see Darrell live up to his potential, the coaches have to put the best players on the field. Rodney has more than proven that he's the best RB on the team.

It would be nice, though, to see the coaches do a better job leveraging Darrell's talent, both symbolic and actual.

Speedy is a change of pace RB and will always be one....that's why he wears down easily. rotate Scott with him more and we have ourselves a great backfield. but Scott should be THE RB!

Scott had his best game against Toledo, yet that was only an 85 yrd performance. Scott's most celebrated run occured last year against Eastern Washington when he hurdled a defender for some extra yards. He also had a good pass play against Texas last season and an good KR against Texas this year. I'm guessing he's taken around 20 snaps or more and has generated an underwhelming number of yards.

Rodney was injured following the A&M game last season, and was hobbled with a hamstring against CSU and Toledo. Both Sumler and Scott have been given opportunities to dislodge Speedy from the starter role. Frankly I can't tell a difference between Sumler or Scott. Both are brusers who run into the scrum to gain a few hard earned yards. Neither shows an uncanny ability make defenders miss, escape into space, move the chains, outrun the defensive secondary and find the endzone.

Sure it's fashionable to pin all blame on the coaches, but it's not as if Scott has brought the same thrill factor to the field of play as Josh Smith or Rodney Stewart when opportunities were there for him. We all hope that changes.

I don't know what the deal is with DS, but I still think he can be a great RB. Everyone wants to compare him to Houston and Calhoun and just assumes he's an over hyped failure. Houston was pretty awesome until he got injured, I know because I saw him tear up USC at the Coliseum. Calhoun is in the NFL right now, so he certainly did something right. I just don't know what DS is or isn't doing. Coaches come out saying he had a great week of practice only to let him carry it twice. Something tells me with better coaches DS would be a pretty good RB. jmo

I think that the problem with having Lockridge in as a punt returner, is that he would require a degree of coaching. The Riddler is not yet up to that task. Until then, we should remain happy watching Espi run in slow circles on punt returns.

I get what you're saying, WYO, but one could argue that Speedy has shown a great deal more production than DS because he has gotten the ball more. DS is gaining 4.65 yds/carry to Speedy's 3.88.
