Why do we get so much **** thrown our way? There's a letter in the Denver Post today blasting our CU (shocking:rolling_eyes:) for the harmless statewide coaches tour:

Hey, here’s a crazy idea. In light of the University of Colorado’s budget crunch this year, instead of raising tuition on kids trying to afford an education, maybe CU could sell some stuff — like, for instance, that shiny bus used for the greet-the-fans tour that was pictured in Tuesday’s Denver Post. Then again, we could never part with anything having to do with the sports program, now could we? I wonder what else our money is being wasted on up there.

Has anyone who saw this written a response that tells this and other ignorant doofs out there that CU couldn't sell the bus BECAUSE CU DOESN"T OWN THE BUS. The bus belongs to an alum, doesn't it? He is providing it for use by the coaches tour.
 
Short sighted, I am sure the coaches tour is probably making a lot of money for CU in the way of donations and publicity. I imagine the whole tour probably costs less than those dumb commericals the SCHOOL (not the athletic department) pays for. Or probably even the signs that CU puts up at DIA.

We need to be more active about this kind of stuff. It needs to be noted that the bus is privately owned by a booster and was donated on loan for this statewide tour. It also needs to be noted that a tuition increase does not raise any money for the CU athletic department and the AD pays for this tour out of its separate budget. In fact, the tuition increase costs the CU athletic department a ton of money because the AD pays the university full value for all the scholarships it awards.
 
hey that $500 the state gives us every year can go toward something better than gas for a tour bus
 
That comment is indicative of why Benson thought firing Hawkins simply wasn't viable politically. Between the state's crazy anti-tax activists, the pro-sports only folks, and all the transplants that could give a @#!@ about the local schools it wasn't worth the potential negative impact to the school. We just don't have enough support within the state, both generally and in the state government. I'm very curious to know how many state legislators actually attended one of the local schools, and I'm pretty sure its been a long time since we've had a Colorado alum as governor as well.

I do hope someone responded to that comment, what article was it in response to?

Hey, at least he was smart enough to admit it was a crazy idea for CU to sell a bus they don't own... :lol:

This only true if there is a significant number of people who feel that way. One complaining wingnut does not create a problem IMO.
 
Yikes. From one of the two available comments:

CU is planning on building a multi-million$ basketball and volleyball training facility and for coaching offices. CU spends a lot on athletics, and the students pay for it.

This kind of garbage will happen everywhere because taxpayers are too obessed about where their tax dollars are going. I work for the Federal Government and I have had to explain to people that our government is just too vast and big that it isn't worth b!tching everyday about. I have been critical of my agency as well because I'm a taxpayer myself as well. There are better things to do. Those anti-tax people are too narrow minded to realize that their taxes are paving the roads that they drive on and many stuff like that.

The problem is that for most people, what benefits them is a "neccessary government service." What benefits someone else is "unneccessary government waste."

I am always amazed at the number of people who are willing to cut the government program that they don't use but scream like they are being tortured if you even mention the things that help them.
 
I do believe that no taxpayer dollars go to the Athletic Department. ****, even the money that comes from the CU foundation (again NOT taxpayer dollars) is a loan that must be repaid.

sigh. Meanwhile, in Nebraska, I think they are shuttering low-income daycare facilities to allocate state funds for a new state-of-the-art bowling alley for the NU women's bowling team (8 time national champion).:huh:

Perhaps it would be helpful, then, if the federal government stuck to doing the things that the constitution allows it to do and lets the states do the rest.

This. I can't understand how the federal government thinks they can implement a program that does what is best for 50 different states with millions of different people with millions of different situations.
 
How the heck did this comment on that letter get past the moderators: "Where else will players have sex with strippers?" What is the point of the moderators, just make sure no profanity is used?

Besides, that makes no sense. There are plenty of places a player could have sex with a stripper.

But, I see your point. A moderator needs to step in on something like that. I mean, you can't let your board go that far off topic. It's well known that Boulder doesn't have enough strip clubs or cheap hotel rooms, but that important and unfortunate set of issues has nothing to do with a state PR tour by the CU coaches.

Speaking of strip clubs, have any of you guys tried the Nitro Club yet? I haven't had a chance, but I'm curious. Also, where do you guys like to go when you're in Vegas?

I've only been to a couple of different strip clubs so my opinion is not experienced. Nitro is ok. Expectedly pricey drinks, since they serve alcohol it is just topless. There are sometimes very sexy dancers, but there are also some "wtf really" girls as well. There is only one stage in the middle with two poles and two dancers at a time and about 25 chairs around it in a long rectangle shape. To the outside of the stage are many tables with comfy chairs to relax at. Waitresses come by fairly often for drinks, along with strippers who offer private dances at $25 a song. It has free student entry with ID so that's why I'll go every now and then.

So long as Colorado's ignorant tax payers are in the mainstream and are anti-football, Colorado will continue to fall behind the likes of Utah and Boise State. Forget keeping up with the likes of Nebraska and Texas.

CU athletics is not a mainstream source of state pride. That's sad.
