I fully expect that will be the next phase.

Want to watch the big games this week? Need to have Paramount+ and Hulu+. Week after is Amazon Prime Premiere and Max. Followed by Netflix and AppleTV in the following week. YouTube and Peacock the next week. Now, let's repeat the cycle so that if you tried to game the system by doing a free trial you miss the game that's being featured next month.
Don’t most of us that stream have a majority of these anyways? I have all of those except for Amazon Prime because **** Bezos. But I can siphon that off my parents. One or two more services is still cheaper than PPV every single Saturday.

People really have that many apps?

If that's true, I'm even more out of touch with the current cultural norms than I thought.

Yeah I have Netflix, Disney+ (comes with ESPN+ and Hulu), Prime, and HBO Max. I think I get Paramount+ free with the 247 sub. Only one I don’t have is peacock but you can pay the $10 for the month and then cancel the sub if there’s a game or two on. Outside of live sports, it’s really the only TV media I consume.

Comcast just offered me free Peacock since I use them for internet.

You left off Apple+. That’s the one I don’t have.

The experience is what gives it value for me.

Kind of like how paying to eat at a restaurant has a lot more value for the same food & drink if I am with people instead of dining alone. Or, more specifically aligned on the analogy, why I never pay for a restaurant delivery service to bring me restaurant food at home.

P.S. I am trying to figure out why you would support the idea of PPV to watch a CFB game at home. Where's your value proposition rationale for why you would add this to your budget? Why does this seem like an expense you could support when we all know that live sports is what already drove the cost of tv viewing subscriptions as high as they currently are?
why do people pay $100/month for cable? Or $20/month for an app? You pay for the content. Why would paying $10 for a 3 hour game be any differet?

Yeah there's definitely a point where I'd forego buying the pass for other games at home and go to a bar like you said. But I don't think that they will charge such absurd prices that most people can't afford it. They will set it at a price where the passionate fans will still be able to watch.

I am not the social type of person where I can make friends at a bar, so I prefer the sanctity of my home. But I guess my tipping point of going to a bar would be if they try to charge $150 or more every Saturday to watch all the games.
I'd rather watch a game at home so I can listen to the sound and focus on the game.
Unless it's a watch party, there are 10 other games on at a bar and it's too chaotic and typically the TV's are smaller than what I have at home.

Only different on cost to value analysis when we currently get however many games in a month for the cable $100. I already question whether the value is there for cable.

College Football Program success and cash flow will be tied to Stadium Size, Ticket Pricing, and unique viewing options that generate revenue.

Therefore, I am asking all of you if you think we could successfully expand Folsom up to 65,000 seats from 50,183?

Add more in WEST, fill in the sides of the Dal Ward corners, Maybe even add a small deck on the East Side of the South End from the Scoreboard over while also doing a full renovation of the guts of the South end as well.

We ironically have the 9th highest capacity in the Big12 and would want to get to 65,000 or even 70,000 to get to the midpoint of the B1G

Until very recently we were rarely selling out.

Folsom may not have giant capacity but it would be interesting to see where it stands in revenue generated per game. Recently a report came out that put CU as the most expensive college game day in the country. I would much rather have 50,000 people per game at an average of over $100 per seat than 65,000 at an average of $50 due to discounting required to move tickets.

CU is never going to be a huge attendence type of program. Colorado is pro sports territory, Broncos, Nuggets, etc.

A better bet would be to upgrade the east side and Dal Ward and continue to make the game experience a value even at a higher price than other schools.

as I predicted a long time ago, the Ala carte streaming is more expensive.

we have the NFL package, the MLB package, hbo, Disney plus, amazon prime, YouTube tv, paramount plus, peacock, and probably a couple more I am forgetting about....

I hate the cable companies but they were right about it being cheaper in the old bundles/

part of this is my own crazy of course. trying to tune in to a particular show or whatever and getting "you must subscribe" is ****ing soul crushing. just shut up. let me watch whatever I want to watch.

CU could go to 70k. To make that work without having difficulty selling seats, there would need to be some cheap seats along with special pricing offers (ie, young alums), special sections (ie, family area with kid-friendly amenities close), and special promos (ie, emergency responder game with discount to police/fire/emt), etc. In other words, CU would need to hire professionals to run it like the business it is.

Student ticketing to coincide with a higher priced Student Fee seems critical, because if I were charged a higher Student Fee, and could not get student tix, that would not work. The higher capacity could be just for all the students, but then to free up more premium seats. Put ALL the students in the South End Zone and then upgrade the East, West, and Dal Ward wings for better pricing options. Put the visitors up in the Southwest corner so they have no view of the flatirons.

I don’t know if CU does something similar, but DU offers recent graduates a deal for $99 that gives you access to any game for the academic year. Yes, that includes hockey. They really try very hard to keep their alumni connected to the school. Feels like that’s something CU has never done.

CU still works with Leerfield Sports via Buffaloes Sports Properties to do things, but not sure how brilliant they are at anything

There was a time when I wanted CU to have a 77,000 seat stadium, just so we would have a bigger stadium than the Broncos. I no longer feel that way.

I think 65k is about right. It balances the desire for a big stadium with the logistical realities of parking and feeding that many people in a 6 hour period. It’s hard enough getting into Boulder on gameday with a 55k stadium.

Stadium Revenue + Media Revenue is all the matters for the long haul

Colorado v Nebraska
$64 Million v $126 Million

Also includes income from MBB, WBB, VB

Proves that we need to just buy our way into the B1G ASAP

Just noting we only sold out 4 home games last year and only two so far this year. With a 50k capacity.
There is a waiting list for season tickets and they currently don’t allow all students to purchase game tickets. You may be correct in that they would be hard pressed to fully sell out a 65k seat stadium, but I think it’d be closer than you think and in line with what they currently sell (as a %) when opening up more season tickets and student ticket allotments.

If they win games, and if they were in the B1G with better opponents coming in, ala

NEBRASKA
USC
IOWA
OREGON
WASHINGTON
UCLA
MICHIGAN

That would sell out for sure

The Big12 is just so not exciting enough

I do not disagree with that. I think it is about having a large enough stadium to be working towards our stadium being towards the top of the B12 for the next round of expansion. Maybe the high prices keep some out, so I like the sort of tier ideas above with give away ideas. All the students should be able to attend. In down years, poor weather, poor opponents, or late start times, those games are tougher to get towards capacity. Also, I know a bunch of people who watch from Franklin field which is a cool place; so we do get more people on campus. Part of it is expanding the overall Gameday experience.

The Hokies are 65K, isn't SMU (35K) building a larger stadium? For Duke, Wake and Cuse they are basketball schools with smaller stadiums. Cal has been down for so long, so they never fill at 50K. I would think North Carolina would expand since they want to stay with the big buys.

@4BienemyTDs--I think they could do it. If you ask me, they take out that table seating on the north side pack-in with bleachers, and build out the Dal Ward side much like the South-side, sort of have in look symmetrical with a 2nd deck. It will be expensive but should look good.

Given that the B1G is now floating the idea of a larger playoff (24-28 teams) this could render these types of discussions somewhat moot pushing expansion down the road. For a home playoff game, I believe CU would sell-out at 65K. However, if it is headed towards a Super-League, I'd want CU's facilities, # of sports, and enrollment on par with the teams in the Super-League. I do worry a bit that Denver is such a Broncos town, there is a distinct Sat v. Sun split.

FWIW, SMU should play in the Cotton Bowl instead of building a stadium.

SMU is not building a new stadium. They just added a $100 million expansion project in one end zone.

And back in the early 80s before the death penalty hit they played their homes games in Cowboys Stadium

True, I had a family member play there right before they got the death penalty. We only went to two games in Dallas,, one in Lubbock. The rest we just watched on tv.

I believe it was a Supra but I was only a couple of years old. They definitely got him a car though and cash. Forgot to add cocaine and weed, about as corrupt as could be. I didn't know anything that shvt at the time, found out later.

$50m over 20 years, so $2.5m/year AAV for the field naming rights at Indiana. I doubt CU sells both stadium and field naming rights but I would guess it will be "Corporation Stadium @ Folsom Field". I also think the delay in getting stadium naming rights done is likely due to solidifying stadium renovation plans as whatever company wants the naming rights will assuredly be part of the funding for it.
