The Alamo Bowl gave a nice daddy-daughter opportunity to explore the state together.
Pedernales State Park, the River Walk, and the Alamo were all new experiences for my middle schooler. She wants to go back to the River Walk again, which is a sign she had a good time despite the loss.
Over the years I've become all too familiar with the concept of separating the outcome game from the rest of the travel experience.
It was great to finally meet JR Ewing, catch up with Kenny, run into several Dallas area Buffs, and enjoy the company of the traveling Buff contingency before, during, and after the game.
Oh yeah - forgot to mention the Toll Way 130 that bypasses Austin. Posted speed limits are 80. The light traffic on these new roads were zipping along at 90MPH. According to the travel computer, that road reduced the drive back to Dallas by 35 minutes. Too bad it didn't bypass Temple and Waco.
