I agree with Sackman that bowls are lots of fun.

The Alamo Bowl gave a nice daddy-daughter opportunity to explore the state together.

Pedernales State Park, the River Walk, and the Alamo were all new experiences for my middle schooler. She wants to go back to the River Walk again, which is a sign she had a good time despite the loss.

Over the years I've become all too familiar with the concept of separating the outcome game from the rest of the travel experience.

It was great to finally meet JR Ewing, catch up with Kenny, run into several Dallas area Buffs, and enjoy the company of the traveling Buff contingency before, during, and after the game.

Oh yeah - forgot to mention the Toll Way 130 that bypasses Austin. Posted speed limits are 80. The light traffic on these new roads were zipping along at 90MPH. According to the travel computer, that road reduced the drive back to Dallas by 35 minutes. Too bad it didn't bypass Temple and Waco.

Good to meet you Skidmark. Sorry I was in such a pissy mood. I had been in a running argument with my Texas Tech grad brother about the Pac12 being better than the Big12, and he was rubbing it in at the wrong time.

When I reflect on the Big12 in 2016, the off-field incidents stand above the quality of play.

Look back at Big 12 in 2016
1 - Baylor Title 9 and revelation that as many 19 football players have been implicated in sexual assault. Firing of Briles, Starr, McCaw and dismissal of Grobe shows instability that is reflected in BU's 2017 recruiting class.
2 - Mixon sits out during a redshirt year after assalting a woman. Video is horrible. Sooners at highest levels of leadership saw the video and sat on it hoping the assault would blow over. OU Sugar Bowl victory is blemished.
3- UT called a cesspool for how they done wrong by Charlie Strong, who was strung along for weeks while the Longhorns negotiated a contract for Herman.
4- Gundy's mullet overshadowed accomplishments of the team
5- Bill Snyder - Too old and fragile for Gatorade bath. Better use something safe like confetti.
6- Nobody pays attention to WVU, Iowa State. TCU, KU and Texas Tech.

i don't think Gundy's mullet overshadowed his team finishing in the top 10. we almost did and we are wetting our pants.

i don't how old Bill Snyder is....that guy is great. his teams block and tackle and play special teams.
