In denial no longer - 2016 was mostly Leavitt

No I'm sorry. I wasnt aware you all had experimental surgery to have your balls removed. Srsly the defeatist attitude some people here have is ****ing disgusting. 'we were only good in 2016 because of leavitt'... Go **** yourself. You discredit every person involved with the team from the 1's to scout team to athletic trainers. No wonder the University has a reputation for not giving a **** about football. Half the people here are pretty much 'face it we're a mediocre program, 2016 was a fluke'. **** you
You’ve clearly got an emotional connection to the program that is leading to some denial. You need a reality check

I've never said "fluke". It was a pretty magical year when the stars aligned.

It is definitely an outlier.

I went into this season believing it would tell me whether 2016 was an outlier or whether years 4-6 had demonstrated a level that was way above years 1-3.

At this point, we're looking at last place in the Pac-12 South in 5 of 6 seasons.
We're looking at 0-fer against ranked opponents when CU came into the game unranked.
We're looking at 0-7 the past 2 seasons in games that had bowl eligibility on the line.
We're looking at 1 road conference win the past 2 seasons.
We're looking at the worst home blown lead loss in program history this season.
We're looking at recruiting languishing in the 35-50 range in the national ranks.

There's just not much there to make me believe that MacIntyre is the guy to take this program where we know it can be.

He did a fine job stabilizing things, building a solid foundation, and has run things with a level of professionalism and honor we should be proud of. I'm thankful for his 6 years and will always look back on 2016 as one of the most fun years of being a football fan I've ever had. But it has run its course and it is time to move on. I will always wish MacIntyre well in his career.

I have been following the Buffs for thirty one years. I have seen what this program can be. I was here for the Natty and for the Halk years. We have been beaten and bloodied since '05. That's thirteen years so if there is skepticism about 2016 and who was responsible I consider it a side effect of being garbage. Whether you want to accept it or not Leavitt played a huge roll in that turn around and that momentum is GONE.

Sounds like someone's about to write a letter.

We are talking about the same Leavitt that has the 75th ranked scoring defense in the country, right? With a bunch of 3 and 4 star guys, right? Granted, OR has played WSU and Stanford, but he gave up 45 to AZ and 24 to a bad Cal offense.

Kentucky seems just fine without eliot.

It’s amazing how short sighted fans can be. Leavitt has had a mostly successful career spanning 30 years at the P5 and NFL levels including being the DC here the last time our defense was not awful, building a brand new program into a top 10 team, and coaching alongside some college football legends, but his defense gave up 45 to Arizona this year so he’s really not that good.

So you watch Oregon play and you think Leavitt deserves one of the highest DC salaries in the country? I sure don’t. He did a great job here in 2016 but his recruiting is part of the issues we are seeing in talent right now. I posted this when he left, him and Mac, despite their issues were a great combo for coaching defense with the other coaches we had. They aren’t performing well without one another.

I agree that it was kind of a Mike Ditka/ Buddy Ryan situation we had with MM & JL. It was allsome while it worked, it wasn't going to continue to work and neither was likely to repeat the success (though like with Ryan despite being the subordinate, Leavitt is the better coach of the two but is really difficult to deal with at times).

Agree with all of the above. GM’s/AD’s need to see when we’ve hit a ceiling and adjust accordingly. John Fox was also a stabilizing presence for the broncos. He would and never will win a championship. Elway was right to clip him despite many division championships and it resulted in the broncos eventually winning super bowl 50.

Rick George seems like an incredibly smart ad and business person. He clearly must see this. We will make the necessary changes.

Zona is hot and sumlin’s System is starting to click. Plus Oregon is starting 5 sophomores. Hitting a few bumps in the road and they will be a monster as soon as next year.

****ty crewtin' immediately following 2016 is why this program hasn't moved up. i said in another thread that it was the death knell for MM and was flamed (lol), but it's why.

Leavitt’s salary shouldn’t matter one damn bit to anyone but Leavitt and whoever is paying it - he is being paid what the market determined he is worth. How has saving a few bucks with the switch to Eliot worked out?

The buffs are starting some young guys too. Johnson, landman, Miller (hurt), Wells, Antwine are all starters.

I don’t care what Leavitt is being paid he isn’t doing very well. Eliot was given a pretty good salary so I don’t get that point either.

Uncle Phil is definitely willing to spend more than what the market dictates.

We didn’t want to pay what it would have taken to keep Leavitt so he left for Oregon. Instead we had to resort to hiring a guy who oversaw some bad defenses and lost play calling duties at a basketball school.

It was you who commented on how Leavitt wasn’t earning his pay so I’m asking you how that switch to Eliot has worked out.

I don’t care how his defense at Oregon has performed, his defense at CU was great and so he was probably worth more to us than he was to Oregon.

leavitt brought enthusiasim and determination to the buffs... i remember him on the sidelines following the d at the line of scrimmage every damm play..... now we have a bunch of zombies on the sidelines that look like they are going to start to cry at any moment when the going gets tough

Not buying the leavit thing. His current defense - by direct comparison - is worse than the Buffs. Even with oregon's super duper top qb in the draft bolstering the oregon D.

Difference is I’ve watched this team and don’t care for Elliot’s defensive scheme. There always seems to be a hole that gets exploited. We minimally saw this under Leavitt. It’s happened way too often over the past two years.

Elliott’s rep prior to Boulder was that of a good recruiter and a less than average coordinator aand it’s exactly what I see watching this defense. I see a bunch of talent that is underachieving.

Landman and some of these other guys have potential to be 1st-3rd round draft picks. We should not be hemorrhaging a 30 point lead at home vs Oregon St.

How can one **** oneself when oneself has no balls?

Nah. pretty sure we have given up like 12 touchdowns on the last 15 drives. I'm sure someone can look it up
