Is it time to sit Sefo?

We need to adapt our offense to the talent on the team. If Sefo is the best QB, then put him in situations that will least expose his weaknesses.

Posted this elsewhere, but Sefo went 389yds, 9.7yds/att, 62% acc, 1TD 1INT 1FUM his most productive game of the year. The two turnovers are directly related to his poor O-Line play.

He still shouldn't have been out there in the 4th quarter this last game, but no it is not time to sit Sefo.

You mean the "8-yard curl or hand it off" offense that everyone loves so much? Because Sefo hasn't shown he can do anything else with any consistency this season.

Nope, run first and run often. Sefo would be fine as a game manager taking advantage of play action. When the defense respects the run game, he will have time for play action. He is not cut out for our current chuck n duck or a run based read option.

Its not the offense itself thats the problem. Its the fact that this team cannot get out of its own way. It is infuriating how many losses the past 7 or 8 years have been purely from us not being able to take care of our own business.

To be a game manager, you have to avoid turnovers, avoid sacks, make your reads to find open receivers, and deliver the ball to them. Does that sound like Sefo to you? I think you're proposing a solution out of hope instead of reality. Lindgren is completely handcuffed because his quarterback can't do basic things.

The less you have to rely on him to do those things the better. Right now, we shouldn't be throwing the ball more than 15 times per game.

everything starts at the top (HC), if you can't prepare your team to go out and win a game, it's on the HC. I've seen every single excuse the last 10 years. Once we get a good coach, we will see that is not the facilities that wins games, not the depth at positions or lack of skill, but HC talent.

Honestly, I don't think this team can run the ball consistently if it has to impose its will to do so. Especially without having a QB the defense has to account for in the run game. I didn't see anything against CSU, UO or ASU that makes me believe that running the ball will work.

Also -- I'm confused on this one -- didn't we have a lot of fans complaining about the predictability of the offense because Lindgren was running the ball on 1st down way too often in the games prior to ASU?

I think folks are grasping at straws when the simple truth is that no offense is going to work when the quarterback is incapable of executing plays.

So many of the things that happen are not coaching errors. So many things that happen are once in a season **** ups. Every player somehow has one and each time it costs us points. Its insane. I don't think I have seen CU play a game without one game changing execution error in 7 years.

Outside of the money games, we haven't seen our offense attempt to commit to the running game. I'm fine with running on first down and would love to see it include a fullback more often.

I didn't see the CSU game, but I didn't see anything in the OU or ASU game that makes me think that our chuck n duck will work against any Pac 12 team.

Lessening the opportunity for the QB to screw up isn't grasping at straws. Thinking this offense can work with Lindgren's vision and our talent is hunting for straws where none exist.

We are in agreement in terms of committing to the run game, play action, and quick passes.

But I strongly believe that if CU is going to go that direction then it needs to go with Gehrke (or even Apsay). Gehrke gets the ball out quickly, can threaten the defense with his legs, and throws a nice deep ball. For what you're proposing, Sefo is the wrong QB to be playing. Especially when he seems to have lost any consistency with touch and accuracy. Maybe Gehrke doesn't give you anything with touch and accuracy. Maybe he doesn't have the same grasp of the offense since he hasn't had the game snaps. But quick decisions and a running threat would be worth a lot right now.

As I've said before, what Lindgren would do with Gehrke is much more similar to how he'd call the offense with Montez in. That's a very good thing for the rest of the offense to get used to, because Montez is the future. While it may be faint praise, Adam and others have continued to say that Montez is the most talented QB they've seen at CU in a long time. He's the hope for the program. Time to start preparing those around him.

I haven't been to a practice and can't comment on what QB would be best suited. But it only makes sense to limit the liability. I was mocked Saturday, but shortening the game would also benefit our lack of depth on defense. Our D played fairly well, until they ran out of gas.

Agree that we have not been exactly dominant in any way running the ball. Still a good argument though that if we put more emphasis on it and showed that it was a consistent part of our offense we could maybe slow down some of the pressure on Sefo and allow him to be more effective in the passing game.

We took a huge hit when Irwin went down. He was not only our only good answer at LT he was also our best run blocker. Then having Kronsage go down after him has resulted in a further re-shuffling of an offensive line that was a question mark to start with.

The failure in recruiting in the program may be best illustrated by the fact that Lisella is now starting for us. Nothing against him and he may eventually be a very good lineman but he simply isn't ready now.

So you're advocating 2nd and 8, 3rd and 6, 4th and 4, punt? Because that is what a "run first, run often" offense will be like with this OLine.

Does everyone realize how hard it is to run the ball without complementary elements to the offense? Look no further than Ohio State this year.

Sefo just plain can't hit water if he fell otu of a boat.
I know his OLine was horrible, but even the announcers were calling him out on plays where he DID make the pass saying
how he made the WRONG decision.

Poor guy....it must be hard being a mountain west QB in the Pac 12.

Yup. Teams are selling out on the run. yea, that can work later in games against teams with depth issues, but what it does is put your offense in lots of untenable 3d and long situations early. If your defense can hold on till you wear down the other team, that's ok, but if not, look out. see: Ohio State, again.

After the first quarter, he looked pretty good. He just has to put an entire game together.

He threw for 62% against ASU with 9.7yds/att. Not saying he didn't make mistakes, because he absolutely did, but come on now.

We don't have the tools to run the offense we are running now. Run blocking is much easier than pass blocking, however, it takes commitment from the top down.

As Mark Twain was fond of saying, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Sefo doesn't have it. Never will. He is actually regressing. They should move on.

The buffs issues are recruiting based. Lack of depth at most positions. There is not a better alternative at QB. Sefo has to play through significant injury as a result. Last place in recruiting multiple years doesn't change the result on the field! Fortunately, they seem to be lining up a class this year that is better!

Blaming Sefo is not the answer. Tom Brady is not on our depth chart.

Move on to what? We have seen Gehrke. He isn't the answer. Apsay is small, he would get destroyed back there with the kind of pass pro we can provide. Montez's redshirt is staying firmly intact unless there is a huge wave of injuries. Saw you mentioned Awini somewhere else. He SUCKED at QB for AFA. Awful at QB and thats an offense that doesn't require him to throw. Like it or not Sefo is the best we have until next year.

Awini wasn't bad at AFA as QB. I saw a lot of those games and he was pretty good, actually...but it's an option offense...completely different.

Sure Sefo isn't getting time to throw, but even when he does he's missing guys by several yards.
I think he HAS regressed.

He's not comfortable back there, and poor #22 is not having a good season as a result.
Hopefully teh OLine can buy him some time and he can get his groove back to where he was last season.
