Is Khalil Tate a legit Heisman contender?

This is the deciding game for him, IMO. If he goes for 300+ All Purpose yards 3-4 more TDs and they beat SC, I think it'd be absolutely crazy to not have him squarely in the Heisman race next to Barkley and Love.

If they beat SC, there's no reason to think they couldn't be going to the Rose Bowl, imo.

They'd have Oregon State, at Oregon, at ASU, and then probably UW in Santa Clara.

Tate will put up gaudy numbers and put tremendous pressure on the opposing offense in the three remaining regular season games, and I'm not even sure UW has the horses to stop him.

UA's weakness, of course, is their defense, but when Tate is killing your defense, little things like a holding penalty or a dropped pass that might kill one drive become massive errors because you're stuck playing catchup the rest of the game.

Just out of curiosity, what did Rich Rod see in the other QB that had Tate sitting on the bench the beginning of the year.

I have only watched Arizona play CU and the highlight reels after of Tate, but I didn't see crap out of the other QB, and Tate is a star.

I think he was worried if he made a change at QB any earlier, players would be blowing out ACLs left and right.

AZ will let Tate be Tate for the rest of this season, and he will take them as far as he can go. Going forward, Zonies are going to have to develop an offensive scheme where Tate does not average 200 rushing yards per game. He has a great arm, and seems coachable. He is gonna get smacked if he continues to run like that. Exciting to see, though.

Phillip Lindsay running for 200 at 5.2 ypc is a lot different from Tate doing it at 13.4 ypc. You don't take a lot of hits when you are running untouched for 70+ yards once or twice a game. RichRod would be the dumbest coach in America if he tried to handcuff Tate. Also, Tate is solidly built and he'll probably add 10 pounds of muscle by next year.

I agree. In fact, I'd say he's more likely to get hurt passing from the pocket since a QB can't protect himself very well while throwing.

In the latest press conference, HCMM mentioned that Rich Rod might have benched Khalil Tate because he was dinged up in fall camp. Could be just speculation, but seems like the only rational explanation for not starting him.

Anybody else think Arizona would be undefeated and ranked in the top 5 if Tate had started from the beginning of the season?

As it is, they have no chance at the playoffs, and that severely hurts Tate's Heisman prospects, imo.

Maybe. Those tight games with Houston and Utah look A LOT more winnable with a special dual threat like Tate.

Yes. They lost by 3 to Houston and 6 to Utah. Tate has been the best player in the country, hands down, the last 4 weeks and I have no doubt he could have made up those deficits. This weekend is going to be fun watching him against the SC defense.

They'd probably be ranked more in the Miami and Wisconsin range than Top 5. But Tate would be the front runner for the Heisman.

I think they're gonna get their **** wrecked on Saturday though.

If he would have played in the northern arizona, University of Houston, and UTEP games...Look out.
