We are going to kick their goshed darn tooshes, dang it! Actually, this game isn't going to be easy. I wonder which CU team will show up? We are down right pschytzofrenic. Did I spell that correctly? We've lost 3 out of our last 4. Not good. We are just so danged young.
 
last time we played in Ames was not a success and the beginning of the end for Barney. i remember like it was yesterday listening to that game in my old apartment up on Baseline....bad stuff.

ISU has been pretty tough the last 3 weeks.
 
We are going to KILL the clones.

and yes, I said it. No reason to change the word this year.

Buffs are bowl bound.

I went to the "tornado" game two years ago. It sucked. CU had every chance in the world to win and let the game slip through their fingers. It reminded me a lot of the KU game this year. Probably should have won. I don't know how much the tornados going through the middle of town had to do with the team being out of sync, but it couldn't have helped things. And lest you think that the tornados weren't really there or that the whole thing was an exaggeration, let me disabuse you of that notion. There were two twisters that came aground within 3 miles of the stadium.

At the time, I thought it was just a freaky deal and that CU would get their **** together against the corn two weeks later. Then the wheels came off completely.

THIS is where we put the damn wheels BACK on the truck.
 
Hawk WILL have these kids ready to play come Saturday! I see a great day for Hugh, Cody and the D!

I was kidding a little. I knew who he was. But you are right. I've hardly ever watched The Simpsons. So I know nothing about Ned. Yeah, thats me all right. Holier than thou. :lol:
 
Blythe is a very good WR. I think if we put T-Wheat on him with some safety help we should be able to contain them pretty well.
 
Their biggest strength is that they have absolutely nothing to lose and are gaining confidence with very game. They look a lot like us last year.

IMO the offense is sputtering because CU is not a threat to hit the HR ball. It seems like every week the D, safeties in particular creep a little closer to the LOS. I know Helfrich has called for the deep ball fairly regularly this season, but two problems exist. One, CU rarely completes a 30+ pass. Two, passes over 30 yards float. Case in point, with about 25 seconds to go in the half, a deep ball to Smith was broken up by a safety coming over late. I watched it live and on tape at home...rainbow if you know what I mean.
 
ISU will probably not be easy. They seem to play very well at home.

I was also at the tornado game. You could see the wheels coming off of Gary's team right before your eyes. The Nebraska and Texas games were set up by what happened at Ames. Do I have to mention the lofted fade pass into the tornado force winds "you know who" called on a 2nd and one play? That's enough about that. That play seemed to be the beginning of the nightmare. And as most of you know, the current OC has me seriously wondering as well. He finds some things that work and just as quickly finds things that don't work. The problem seems to be that he sticks with what doesn't work and doesn't stick with what does work.

Nevertheless, the game at Ames will be tough. They will have to want this one. They had better game plan for running the ball, because fierce winds always seem to go through the stadium even without tornadoes around.

Unfortuantely, Cody's limited mobility and lack of arm strength have definitely been exposed in the past few weeks. All the more reason to line up and play smash-mouth football. I think Cody plays his best when he can get some play-action passes going.

The Buffs are way too finesse. Case in point- our very first play against Mizzou- Josh Smith runs the ball. We have a senior running back who CAN run well when he wants to, and we decide we're going to give the ball to a true-freshman wide receiver. That is a symptom of what I believe is a poor offensive game plan.

Lets get this team lined up and start punishing some people. There are some big bodies on that OL. Then when the safeties and LB's start stacking the LOS- hit it over the top. Yes, I know Cody throws a rainbow. So did Koy Detmer. Koy Detmer's rainbows went for TD's.

And if we're that concerned about the deep balls- then lets start running some quick slants. We've got some really fast receivers (when they catch the ball) who I think would be very good at some quick slant passes. I am tired of watching Cody throw out patterns to players who are running toward the sideline -- I want to see some passes thrown to players who are running toward the endzone.

Alright. Rant over for the morning.

I actually think that had a lot more to do with Darrell Scott being in the house than anything else.

Interesting thought. I hadn't considered that.

Although I would have also thought we would have seen the running game featured for D-Scott. Instead, we probably saw less of it than we have seen in weeks, even before the game got out of hand.

I wonder if Scott is excited about the idea of taking direct snaps a ridiculous number of times per game?? :huh:

yep, i think they made a conscious effort to make sure smith got touches in front of his nephew.

oh, and i do think CU will beat isu. isu is not very good. the key, i think, is whether our staff will be able to adjust their gameplan to the weather in ames. to win in november in the b12 north, you better be a pretty good running team. assuming t-wheat and walters and dizon can all go, we have plenty on defense to shut the clones down. but, offensively, we need to run the ball right at them, work the clock, and avoid turnovers. and we need good work out of our special teams. CU will only lose this game if it beats itself and that includes in the gameplanning phase.

Run the ball down these ****ers throats and we win. Weather looks to be reasonable this weekend as of today 30% chance of rain and temps in the mid 50s
 
We play like crap in Ames. This is gonna be ugly at best. But if it's a W, then I'll take whatever we can get.
 
Iowa State Offense
ISU Offensive will either make no mistakes or 30. Prone to turnovers but in the last three weeks ISU has gotten much better. RB Alexander Robinson is slippery and fast. Broke out against Missou 2 weeks ago and has been a huge part of the offense since. Only a freshman and has huge upside. OL is average at best. Wont open huge holes but big enough to get the job done. They don't give up very many sacks. Wide receivers are stacked with talent. Just have to get them the ball which is where the problem starts. QB Bret Meyer is a 4 year starter who quite frankly, sucks. He has been mentally warped from being hit so many times. He still doesn't know how to check down. Expect to see a lot of red-shirt freshman QB Austen Arnaud. 5/7 for 150 yards last week in his first meaningful time at QB. Arnaud is the future of ISU. Overall they will not score many points, average around 21 points. Coaches will stay committed to the run even if it isn't working. Expect some mis-direction plays. Lots of weapons just depends on the QB play.

Iowa State Defense
ISU defense will blitz a lot. DL is solid but not spectacular. DE Kurtis Taylor has 6.5 sacks on the year. LB are very good with Alvin bowen who lead the nation in tackles last season. Both corners and safetys are very good. Very physical. In the last 2 weeks, ISU has had 2 defensive TD's. Overall this unit is not very good position by position but when they are all put together they work really well. ISU's defense will ultimately come down to whether or not they can get presure on the QB.

Iowa State Special Teams
Worst special teams in the country. K Bret Culbertson has only mage 4 FG's outside the Iowa game (He made 5 including a game winner). Don't expect to see ISU even try a FG unless it is really short. P Mike Brandtner was a freshman all-american last year but has been really inconsistent this year. KR is bad and Kick coverage is even worse. ISU's starting field position on kickoffs is the 20 while opposing teams start at the 40. You will not see a PR, everything will be a fair catch. As long as the special teams don't cost ISU the game, I am happy.

Overall this team has improve by leaps and bounds throughout the season. They remind me a lot of Colorado last year. Much better than their record shows.

I enjoy playing CU and look forward to tailgating this weekend. This game is a small rivalry game in my mind and one the best days of my life was the 2005 Real Cyclone game. Good luck this weekend.

hey, thanks for the thoughts. that 2005 game really wrought some change in the b12 north, that's for sure. i like chizik-- i think he's got a chance to be a really good head coach. if you guys give him time, i think you'll be pleased, but it may take a few years.

you've always played our Buffs tough in ames and i expect no different this year--- we really need this win badly. i think CU is a more talented team, even with our gaps, but like most teams in a rebuilding phase, including yours, we can't afford any mistakes.

imho, whomever makes the fewest mistakes wins this game. that should favor the hometeam. but, if CU gets hugh charles and the run game going, the Buffs should win.

This is a "Character" game. To a pessimist, Mizzouri signaled that the wheels are coming off. To an optimist, CU had a bad day, which is an aberration.

I have a very good feeling about this game. This team are winners.

one of the worst games I ever personally attended. The tailgating was OK, though. It would have been better except for all the damn tornado sirens going off all over the place. :huh:

The one thing that struck me, as I'm walking around in my black and gold, was that people didn't mind the black & gold so much as long as it said "Colorado" instead of "Iowa". :lol:
