Someone can kill this thread is it seems redundant, but I thought tracking who earned their numbers was interesting since it's kind of a big deal now. First last week, 2 more today.

Jimmy Horn Jr - 5
Travis Hunter - 12
Shane Cokes - 99
4/11
Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig - 7
LaVonta Bentley - 20
Trevor Woods - 4
Isaac Hurtado - 29
4/13
Jordan Domineck - 44
Louis Passarello - 89
4/15
Kaleb Mathis - 13
Marvin Ham II - 25

Edited to confirm Cokes' number

Sami used to wear 99, right?

Cokes earning his number is impressive. After watching Sunseri I thought there was a good chance we go into the season with no numbers for the DL. Huge position of need, so good to see someone stepping up.

I’d honestly be pissed if I was Sami. Gave the program 4 solid years for someone to come in and take his number after two months
Might be what it takes to wake Sami up and get him to elevate his play.

Sami is a P5 level talent. He is big, strong, and quick for an inside DL.

The last couple years though he has not progressed as a player and in fact may have regressed. Far too often he was effectively taken out of a running play by a single blocker, you simply can't have that happen to your NT and win. On pass rush instead of collapsing the pocket he has been stalemated. I've seen individual plays where neither of these happened and he was a factor so he can do it.

I like Sami and want him to do well. Watching him as a soph I thought he had pro potential. Maybe this is what it takes to get him to step up his performance and play like he is capable. If not he moves on and maybe another coach and program can get that out of him.

The past 4 years, the past 20 years have to be gone, not thought about, not considered. What matters is right now. Cokes is giving it what it takes right now.

Yeah, Sami losing his number isn't a big deal to me. When looking over the roster the other day, seeing where we'd get 15-20 more open slots, Sami was a guy I banked on leaving after the spring.

He just hasn't improved since his sophomore season, and it's a Shane because with his size and talent he should have been in the league by now. However, we now know the team didn't really give a **** about winning the last couple years.
