KEG Renovations

I know everyone is talking about the renovations to Folsom as they are much over due. But I wanted to get everyones opinions on the KEG. I love the KEG, don't get me wrong. It's a great arena that hasn't changed in some time. And I also want to point out that I by no means am saying that I want the KEG to look as ridiculous as Louisville's KFC Center or even USC's "NBA" arena. I just think that with our recent shift in success from football to basketball, we could definitely do some things to the KEG that would be awesome.

- The student sections benches wobble back and fourth, so they could use some updating
-Side note on the benches. What if each sections alternated colors from Gold to Black. Would look pretty awesome
- It would be amazing to get a hanging score board in the center of the court
- And just general updates to refresh the KEG

Just wanted thoughts on my ideas and if anyone else had any?

The number one thing that needs to be improved is the lighting. Secondly, the bathrooms need serious renovations. If we decide to add seats we should pop the top of the building, expand upwards and tear out the bleachers, I don't want to lose the advantage of having the students right on the floor.

Air Conditioning. I know some people will be against this because it gives us a home court advantage, but there were some games where it was absolutely miserable in there last year. It's something to consider.

I know this isn't realistic, but it would be great to see a new arena. CU could play at the Broomfield complex while we built another arena. How sweet would that be?

.... I know, I know. It's not going to happen anytime soon. I guy can dream, no?

They need to expand the outer corridor.

This would:

- Put bathrooms on the outside of the building
- Allow the corner bathroom walls to become club boxes
- Allow enclosure of the walkway to add more seats

Also, they should replace the current GA bleacher seats with chairbacks, paint the ceiling black to bring the eye toward the court, install new lighting to make the crowd dim and the court lit up, and upgrade the sound system.

We could have a killer arena with the existing footprint that held over 12k, had some premium seats, better amenities and delivered a big time game atmosphere.

Also, as has been stated, they need to put Rugged in charge of in-game entertainment. The cost of Biohazard suits and disposal would be so worth it.

I agree with Buffnik on this. A few relatively cheap renovations can make the difference.
1) Lighting
2) Sound
3) Video boards on all four corners
4) Seat Upgrades

I think it would be awesome to keep the base (the existing part of the KEG) but remove the top and build up a little bit. It would be awesome to add glass windows on the entrance level as walls, that way natural light can fill up the KEG. Also it would allow to build up a bit and add some box seats. You could also add some of the Rocky Mountains to the stadium. This may be unrealistic but maybe even add a few areas with small pines etc to grow and be inside the building.

The master plan for athletic facilities has some expansions to the Keg. Mostly by increasing the concourse size outward so that new bathrooms could be built on the outside of the footprint. With this they are planning on adding suites/boxes. I think if they put in a black ceiling, upgrade the lighting, and improve the sound system the arena would be perfect.

It is currently not feasible from an engineering standpoint to hang score board in the center of the arena. Perhaps down the road if they pop the top and re-engineer the roof structure they could incorporate it, but not as it stands now.

That's awesome, I had no idea that the master plan they are raising money for had proposed this.

The concourse also needs to be wider to improve the flow of people, particularly during half-time. No need to build a new arena as the sight lines are great and the location on campus is good. Plus, we don't want there to be more financial issues for the athletic department.

Other ideas:

1) build a store into the arena which could be open at times when there isn't a game - such as during home football games, etc.

2) Encourage even more people to ride their bikes - yes, I normally do ride my bike - by constructing a covered and lighted area for people to lock their bikes.

People aren't going to ride their bikes to games in the middle of December unless they are close to the arena, that lack of people utilizing it would not warrant the cost.

They need to redo the exterior though and make it match the rest of the buildings on campus and less like the engineering center.

whaaa. whaaaaaaaa. stop crying you babies. How about they just raise an NCAA championship banner and do nothing else.

The Keg's HEAT is our secret weapon.

Do what Nik is recommending. They could add another 3-4k seats, improve the game day atmosphere, make more money, and do it somewhat cheaply. The whole thing shouldn't cost more than $10MM or so.

Now, if they really want to make a statement, make the first ten rows retractable and put in an ice sheet.

This is a great idea. Even though the two seasons coincide, playing at the rec center ice rink is a joke.

Honest to God, I wish they'd turn on the heaters. The hotter a gym is, the better.

Dressing in layers is part of the charm. There's the arctic survivor garb for the trek from the DH to the Keg... and then there's the mesh t-shirt and Speedo to methodically strip down to as the heat rises inside the building.
