Kendrick Celestine?

I don't think it's fare to say we "ran" him out of town. I believe it was personal issues and a kid involved.

But to answer your question, no I haven't heard where he landed.

We didn't run him out of town. He apparently fathered a child back home in Louisiana and left to be a man and take care of the kid. I have nothing but respect for that decision.

Well, while it may be honorable, it doesn't seem to me that giving up a free education at a top notch university, in the long run, would be the best choice for him and his family. Wouldn't it have been better, say, for mom and child to move to Colorado? I know it isn't that simple though.

Maybe, but you can't fault the kid for manning up and doing what he thinks is best. It's not necessarily the decision I would have wanted him to make if he were my kid, but I cannot fault it. I'm sure there were other family considerations as well (he's from Louisiana - he has a support structure there).

You do remember that he missed Spring ball because of academic issues, right? But that has nothing to do with him not seeing much time the first few games of the season. Nope, the coaches were intent on running him out of town.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
I dont think he is in Louisiana...According to his Facebook (Yes a very reliable source) he mentions being in Boulder rather often.

If you miss Spring ball, you're behind the other receivers. Considering he is a young player, missing the entire Spring really put him behind the eight ball. You don't just all of a sudden work your way into significant playing time. You have to earn it back.

I'm sure his decision to leave had some to do with playing time. But considering he had some issues (mainly academics) hindering him for a good portion of this year, it is pretty weak to call out the coaching staff for actually having some accountability.
 
If you can't perform in the classroom and you fall behind in practice then I'm sorry, but I don't have any sympathy for players that complain about a lack of PT in the fall. They are getting a world class, free education and have many more resources than the regular student body to make sure they stay on track for graduation. These are student athletes. While I understand that academics aren't as high of a priority for some guys on the team, Hawk has a responsibility to them, their parents and to the University to make sure that it is a priority, not just getting on the field and making some plays most people will forget about after the fact.

With that said, if he left because of personal reasons then I don't fault the guy. Everyone has their own personal issues and if he felt it was a good enough reason for him to leave then that's fine with me.

What I don't like though is whiners. If he quit just because he wasn't getting PT then he should try harder in the classroom and in practice. He knew the depth we had at WR so he would have to get at least some PT this year. If that wasn't up to his standards, well, then it means the coaches thought he wasn't putting forth 100% effort. You shouldn't get on the field just because you have the ability and talent over other players (although that is certainly a factor), but because of your work ethic. That's how it largely is in the workforce and in every other facet of life.

Anyways, since I've started some kind of war I will just say, that the kid worked his butt of in the summer to gain eligibility which he did, and because of the lack of receivers I find it hard to believe that Celestine rarely got on the field for anything else but to make statement. He was with them all summer and 4 weeks into the fall, and then decided to leave.

Sophomore wide receiver Kendrick Celestine acknowledged earlier this summer that he needed to do well in two summer courses to remain academically eligible this fall. Celestine earned a B in his first summer course and is finishing up the second class this week.

And as a side note, I guess we can all agree that when Simas becomes eligible we won't see him on the field either, right?

There was a semi-credible rumor that his girlfriend back home had gotten pregnant and that was the reason for his departure from the team. You'll also note that in the article linked Kiesau seems less than excstatic about the loss and that Kendrick had considered leaving over the summer long before his PT could have been an issue.

I'll never forgive Celestine for dropping that sure TD bomb at Arizona State last year. He never proved that he was going to be a consistent performer OR a threat of any kind.

But he'll probably end up at LSU or the like.
