LaVissska best CU player since ...?

Is there anybody with a media guide handy who can post the single season records for receiving at CU?

I’d like to see where Laviska is relative to McKnight, Richardson, JFly, Spruce. Westbrook, Carruth, Branch, Flanagan, Oliver, and other CU greats.

One thing is certain. Witnessing LaViska thus far this season is witnessing history in the making. Fingers crossed that he keeps getting snaps and being reliably productive in each of the next 10, 25, and 40 games.

Laviska is physically gifted beyond anyone we have ever had. The chop and go move he put on last game that double cripple legged that DB was just plain sick, and the spring game move he made showed video game capabilities. Mike Pritchard was a real stud, and someone that I felt was a really really good player, but smaller and had he played in this offense would be pretty unstoppable. Westbrook was a big body dude that was good for his time, but Viska is a stronger and more dominant type of kid. Graham was dynamic for his position, Salaam was top shelf for a college RB, and PL and Paul Richardson were plus players, but I gotta say that we have not had a kid like Viska before, so glad to have him.

Sorry, but you just can't say that. Time will tell, but as of now, it just isn't true.

I want what he’s having if he thinks Viska is gonna be here for his senior year

I usually abstain from some of these threads, but TOP TEN!?!?! WTF?! I think you need to go back and revisit CU's history. Sure, we're not a top 10 program overall, and our decade of suckitude made us more borderline top 25 program overall as opposed to solid top 25. Point being is that we have had a LOT of great players in our past. I loved Crosby, but he's like top 40 overall, at best. Kickers do matter, but he will likely never be brought up for College Football HOF voting. I mean, damn...if you have Crosby top ten, where do Rouen and Berger fit in your rankings?? Berger punted and kicked FGs at CU... ...you can give Crosby credit, but top 10 is way overboard imo.
Possibly a slight exaggeration, but not much. I don’t think people fully appreciate the impact Crosby had on the game. He changed how coaches made decisions.

It also bugs me when people don’t give kickers and punters adequate recognition for their contributions. Calling him a “****ing kicker” is, frankly, insulting. Dude won games we would have lost without him.

It was never said that Viska’s next 40 games would all be in a CU uniform.

Just wishing him longevity, health, and an opportunity to play football for years to come.

Although if you do the math, 40 more games in a CU uniform would imply three national championship appearances.

And yes, puff, puff, pass is needed for that to happen. Take a hit.

Lol! No way he even plays 30 games in a Buff uni...he's gone after next year.

13 games this year and next would be 26. Plus he played in most, if not all the games last year - if only mostly on special teams. High 30's unless he gets injured but can still make the draft anyway.

Ah...thanks for the clarification! I spaced last year and didn't know how many he played then anyway.

Hard to compare different eras.

Yes Salaam had a great line. That doesn't change the fact that he gained a lot of his yards running through, by, or over tacklers, that he could put a foot in the ground changing direction and explode with amazing quickness and speed for a man that big.

I love Viska, he is an amazing talent and seems to be a great individual on top of it. Let's get a little past 5 games into his breakout season before we declare him better than Salaam and the others.

Good points ... but my original question was not really about accomplishments over time, or stats, or legacy, because obviously the sample size for Shenault is way too small .... I was just thinking about the eyeball test: sheer athleticism, playmaking ability, versatility, game changing ability (essentially all the ingredients to be a star player) ... and who's the last player for CU that displays those attributes at his level. That's why I land on Slash ... or Hagan.

well in that case

Well agree to disagree, and since it seems like this specific point is just you and me, this will be the last I write on it. I don't think it's just a slight exaggeration. Sure, I agree kickers earn their keep, but in addition to being disrespectful, the comments you refer to are also realistic. Specialists in all sports are going to be downgraded due to their limited contributions. Steve Kerr is the all time leading NBA 3 point percentage leader, and as great of a specialist he was, he is not in the conversation for top 200 players of all time due to his limited roles. There have been some great DH's in baseball, and there still is no one that was primarily a DH in the HOF. One of my favorite Buffs of all time is Ben Kelly - electric returner and solid CB. I think he's maybe a top 30 player at CU. I just can't put Mason in the top 20, because his role was limited, even as great as he was. Yes, he is a top 100 player, but without having formulated a list, I have to think Crosby is in the top 40-50 range of all the players we've had.

Drive by? I post on almost every game thread. And more positive than negative by far (not that that’s the measure of a “true fan” anywhere else except on AB). So what’s your ****ing point?
Commentator, reminiscent of K&P, says: 'O, now that ones going to hurt. Let's take a closer look at the action here and see what they come back with.'

How is there not more mention of Chris Brown? His 2002 season was total dominance. Viska is the first guy since Brown who could completely take over a game.
9 of 12 games he went for over 100 yards and it wasn't like he barely broke 100 in most of them. In those 9 his rush totals were: 185,188,167,309,167,149,103,211 and 127. He had 1841 rushing yards averaging 6.1 per carry. And 19 rushing td's. Was 8th in Heisman voting that year. Viska is definitely more versatile and better overall but we don't need to go back to the 90's to find Viska type dominance.

IIRC, Brown missed the last 2 or 3 games of the season with a chest injury. Which makes his #s even more insane.

Shenault is what Darrell Scott was supposed to be

Well... Viska was a high 3-star, whereas DS was the #1 rated RB in the country coming out of high school. Viska is better than his rating and is overproducing based on the expectations anyone had of him entering the season (himself and Chev excluded).

Viska is Michael Westbrook. But in an offense that can utilize his speed and ability. Westbrook played second fiddle. He is the best all around unbelievable can't miss player EVER in my time watching CU for 30+ years. I've never literally been floored week after week by how amazing a player is.

I love Chris Brown, one of my all time favorite buffs - but I remember him bring injury and fumble prone. I may be misremembering.

This was how I read your question! Are there so many amazing Buffs like Salaam, Hagan, Crosby, Westbrook, and yes I said Pritchard was super special, but video game freakish athletic ability, hands that are silky smooth catching balls, and I think he would be a 1,500 yard running back if he did that! And probably a Daniel Graham tight end type of guy. I was just answering the question as asked, and meant no disrespect to all the great Buffs. No delusion here.

In terms of pure athleticism, I think the best Buff comparison is Deon Figures.

If we're talking about being the best football player on the field, he's somewhere with all the guys that have finished in the Heisman top 10:
Salaam
White (2nd)
Bienemy (3rd)
Romig (6th)
Brown (8th)
