Leavitt to Oregon

Just saw that Jay Gruden (Washington HC) let go of Perry Fewell, Joe Barry and Robb Akey on the defensive side of the ball. Both Barry and Akey have had some experience in the P12 and are Colorado natives. Akey was the HC at Idaho for a few years. No connections that I can tell between them and MM or CU otherwise.

Maybe I missed something so you guys can get me up to date. I see a lot of Hate for Leavitt on these boards. Did he take some cheap shots at CU when he departed? Not understanding the source of all the hate.

In this video he goes on and on about how he doesn't coach for the money. He cites Tom Herman going to Texas for more money. He says he loves what he does. He seems genuine when he says he loves his guys and loves CU.

The next week he goes to a conference rival with a sugar daddy who is trying to buy his way to a championship.

Of course he has every right to change his mind, and every right to go earn more money and coach where he wants. I just hate that every word he said now sounds like BS.

Seems like he left without notifying the players - they found out on Twitter like the rest of us. Pretty weak way to leave guys you claimed to care so much about. He then went out of his way to thank RG for the opportunity with zero mention at all of Mac or the other coaches.

He also went to a conference rival who is after some of the same recruits - if he had gone off to the ACC, we probably wouldn't care so much.
There was also at least one post here about him recruiting our visitors to Oregon, before his announcement, right?

So you are saying it is a bunch of over reaction on the part of fans. I have watched plenty of assistant coaches lose their jobs over the years and have to move their families chasing employment. Jim Leavitt was leaving - he was actively putting out feelers and interviewing for jobs. He has always announced everything on twitter.

His leaving was nothing like Neuheisel announcing he was leaving during our biggest recruiting weekend of the year. Recruits and players were having dinner waiting for the HC and they found out during dinner that he was going to Washington - we had 5 star recruits in there like Cory Redding.

Anyway I think we got our money's worth from Jim Leavitt.

I think the biggest reason people are upset is because he took the same position at a conference opponent. If he took a HC job no one would be upset at all. If he left for a DC position at Oklahoma, people would be annoyed but otherwise fine. Taking a DC job at a school that plays in the same conference just kinda sucks.

Feels good to hate. Makes me feel better about my miserable self.

Exactly. He wants his big payday and everyone to think he is a great guy. Sorry, you got paid, you don't get to play the "aww shucks I didn't really want to leave because I love CU so much" card too.

If someone came to me and said, hey we'll 2x or 3x your salary, I'd be gone too, I would not walk through the office, and tweet later, about how much Ioved my old job and co-workers. I would take the money, say my goodbyes privately and go buy a new car.

I don't hate JL for taking the opportunity. I would have done the same.

It doesn't mean I have to like it - and I will root for Oregon (as a conference opponent) to have the worst D in the league next year.

People hate because he's a phony. He claims it's not about the money in a speech, two weeks later leaves for more money. He tells a writer that he loved CU, thought he'd never leave unless for HC job, come to find out he was interviewing for two DC jobs, Ole Miss and Oregon. He claims he loves the players, they find out he's leaving on twitter & unfortunately there was no other way. he skips out on the biggest game of their careers 2 weeks prior, a game in which they get blown out and look unorganized. JL Reiterates his love for CU while he's secretly been recruiting other coaches to Whoregon with him (Clark). Clark also jumps ship to take the same position that he had at CU... Anybody care to surmise what he's doing and saying to our committed recruits?

Jim Leavitt comes off as a phony piece of trash. He has this amped up social media presence but has carbon copied the same trashy posting at cu,now at Oregon.

As others mentioned if he left for OU or Ole Miss it wouldn't be as bad. Going to a conference rival feels like a your partner cheating with your best friend.

Thus I say **** Jim Leavitt, Chris Clark, I wish them nothing but the worst.

Good luck fellas, thanks for a great contribution! May we beat the holy piss out of you every time we see you.

Really rooting for mfjl to get that ksu head coaching gig soon.

Chris Clark? Charles perhaps?

Growing tired of seeing this thread at the top. We know MFjl is in oregon. Time to move on.

This is the business man, that's why I decided not to coach. I had the advantage of seeing my brother move around all the damn time so it made it easier lol.

Actually in the speech he says you don't get into coaching for the money. He was continuing a theme brought up by previous speakers at the event (Matt Canada said his first job was $5000 per year). I think you need to keep in in context. When Embree wanted to say goodbye to his players he had to set up his own event and some people on these boards were upset he wanted to say goodbye. There is no winning in the court of public opinion especially with fans.

Coaching was a mercenary business and it works both ways - Gary Barnett read about his firing in the morning paper and was not allowed to coach in the bowl game.

Leavitt gave CU what they needed at a time when they really needed it. IMO, he gave 100% so what else can you ask. I have seen no negative comments about CU from Leavitt.

The way I read this is u don't go into coaching for the money, but if u r one of lucky few to make great money it'd be foolish to turn it down.

Of course part of it is about money. It's also about peace of mind and enjoying where you are coaching. You don't know that till you get there. If your family isn't happy wherever, you have an issue. You're gonna piggy back that ****.
