Mack Brown reportedly stepping down

No doubt. My fact finding for you bastards comes with some fatherly self-loathing.

Skid: Hey, do you say the pledge of Allegiance in school.
Kidskid: Yes.
S: To the US and Texas?
KS: Yes.
S: Which one comes first?
KS: America first and then Texas. Daddy, why are you asking?
S: Because kids in most states only pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
KS: Well, Texas did fight in the Alamo and were owned by Mexico. And that was important.
:bang:

And that's when I'd be packing up the moving vans...

I'm beginning to think that Mexico didn't really want to win at the Alamo. Just the fact that Texas has its own pledge of allegiance and they are so proud that Texas can fly its flag at the same height as the US flag has always given me the impression that it's Texas first then America. This especially rings true when the Democrats are in charge.

Too true.

The average Texas high school student doesn't know who Charlemagne was, but she could damn well tell you a lot about the official Texas version of the Alamo.

fify

You don't think they teach this part:

In terms of ethnicity among the Texian defenders, 13 were native-born Texians, with 11 of these 13 being of Mexican descent. The rest of the Alamo defenders consisted of 41 men born in Europe, 2 Jews, 2 blacks, and the remainder were Americans from states other than Texas. Santa Anna's forces were a conglomeration of former Spanish citizens, Spanish-Mexican mestizos, and indigenous Mexicans.

You 'all are scaring me.

My company just offered me a new job/position at our office in Irving.

I'm going out there next week to check it out.

I've never seen a meltdown like the one on Orangebloods right now, particularly considering this is over a coach who won what 8 games this year and also won an MNC for the school. Personally I think he's still gone and the ESPN statement from today is about face saving, and defiance over Chip Brown's report that he was being pushed out, but even if he still leaves the chaos was enough to screw up their shot at Saban.

There is a poster there claiming to be someone working inside the AD in some sort of capacity and without posting much in the way of explicit info he basically said its mass chaos and no one knows what the heck is going to happen.

The person happiest about this news has to be Todd Graham..."So you're saying there is a chance..."

Anyone read The Son? Great book.

Semper Gumby

I'm reading it right now. Turns out Texas was overrun by a bunch of bankers and lawyers, while displacing at least two levels of those that actually fought for the land (one of those levels was native).

I snortled.

Blasphemy!

Thousands of John Wayne type Texans fought for liberty against the evil Mexicans and, despite being drastically outnumbered, won the war and created the greatest nation-state in the history of civilization. Later, these heroes founded Baylor University.

it is not as bad as it sounds....it will grow on you! My move to Texas converted me from a bleeding heart, democrat to a conservative republican prick....

Prediction:

Texas brings the top names in (Shaw, and the rest) one by one.
One by one they tell Texas to pound sand.
Texas turns to the B list candidate and eventually settles on one for 5+ per year.
Texas land burns.

Irving is in the metroplex, you'll be fine. Except for cowboy fans DFW is a great place to live.

First US Pledge of Allegiance
then Texas Pledge

thats how it goes down in kidskid's school.

I stand corrected. I sent an email to the above I mentioned and they both confirmed that they did indeed say the pledge to the US first. They had never mentioned it before and I appreciate the correct facts. Growing up in Iowa, going to college at CU, and living in Montana for years, I've never heard of school children saying a pledge of allegiance to ANYTHING besides the US. This is why I was so surprised at what they said.

Aik, don't worry, the boosters at UT are in control. They don't spend that kind of money to sit on the sidelines. They can't buy a team like Cuban and jones in Dallas, so this is the best they can do. Their egos are too big to not feel like they are "players". In some ways I'm jealous CU doesn't have this type of support, but I see what a deal with the devil is like. CU will come back, slower than all of us want, but well do it the right way. As a lib, I hate the anti athletics viewpoint the so called intellectual elites have. Fact is, the better a football team we have, the more applications, and hence, the smarter the students who are accepted to the university. I can't believe that educated people can't quite grasp those truths.

CU has a 80% winning percentage this fall. The good times are just around the corner. It will taste just that much sweeter when we get back to being relevant in football. I really like Mac2 and where he's going with the program. Boyle is a stud, Lappe is unbelievable and we have the best X-Country and Ski coach In the US. We've got this thing rolling right now and the next 10 years are gong to be a beautiful thing. As long as texass stays out of the PAC.

Go Buffs!

He wanted to keep his job although he didn't want to stay if he wasn't wanted, he can talk about how the "timing" being good, but he's not doing so as voluntarily as he might try to make it seem.

A decade-and-a-half plus at Texas is pretty remarkable, I don't think he gets enough credit for what he did there given the expectations.

Really confusing timing, but it's now clear that even though he knew he was done it absolutely had to be announced on his terms, middle finger to the media. No way they get anyone on their A list, right? Alamo Bowl is December 30. If no coach is in place within a week after that it will be clear they have been rejected by the top of their wishlist. We've seen if a job is that desirable a coach has no problem leaving his current gig for greener pastures, so I won't buy any "Well, the guy we're after is currently still coaching his team to a bowl/playoffs" smoke.
