Lets say there is a specific regent or a couple of regents that want this guy. Lets say they knew some things that they simply didnt want to disclose. Thats generally how a lot of people find out about things after the fact. Too bad for that regent that they have that 14 day rule for public scrutiny.
If he were someone (like Hick) who was known for bringing people together, I would give him more credence here. But he's very divisive himself.
I can't imagine who wants this guy. He seems like he sucks to me. CU can (and should) do much, much better.

It's convenient commentary on their part, however, they had all of the information. Anyone saying they didn't is lying to protect a political image.
As much as I’d like to say Polis should stay the Hell out of this, anybody in his position should do what he did. He’s the Governor of the State and the flagship university is stepping on its collective dicks. Time for the grownups to take charge.

This reminds me of why good hiring consultants might be a good idea.
Makes way too much sense. That's why CU never hires consultants for stuff like hiring university Presidents and PR crises.
One thing I've found kind of weird is that the selection process seems to be anti-academic.
Maybe I'm reading them wrong, but the tea leaves are telling me that it's not just that they want someone who is politically savvy and has a high business acumen. (Which I wholeheartedly agree with -- they're not hiring a provost.) But I've gotten the impression that a candidate having worked in academia and/or having an advanced degree would actually be a negative with the selection committee and that people with those qualifications would have hurdles to overcome in order to be seriously considered.
So we get a politician who comes from the academic powerhouse of the University of North Dakota as the sole finalist.

In all fairness, they probably saw UND and thought that he was from the University of Notre Dame. Kind of like my buddy who had grand plans of going to the University of Hartford because he thought that he could mutter Hartford and people would hear Harvard.
He is a fairly vocal professor and alumnus of CU. Probably one of the few pro athletics professors at CU. He teaches a sports gov class that is pretty great where he brings in a lot of athletes and coaches to speak. You still don't need to care about him, but I feel like his opinion is pretty close to how I feel as well. We should be able to do better.

Daily Camera is live tweeting the various campus townhalls. Right now Kennedy is with the Faculty Council from system office. I thought this answer was interesting.... not really what I wanted to hear - but then again I'm not sure what answer I would want to hear:

Long thread here. This definitely doesn't paid Kennedy as someone who was prepared, or even a good speaker. Extremely political answers in the few where he seemed to actually know what was going. The number of times he said he was unsure about what was going on or what happened at UND is concerning giving the amount of responsibility and things going on at CU would be significantly more.

And that he’s willing to say whatever to get the job. Also he’s got a track record now of being poorly prepared. He also seems to have a scantily formed plan and what is there sounds bad; can this seriously be the strategic vision from the BoR?
That sounds like a “me too” university with no aspirations to be a leader. If you do all the rest of the stuff well, the economic impact to Colorado and fiscal sustainability will take care of itself. You can always figure out affordability later, too. To be honest, the types of students CU courts don’t give a **** about graduation rates for several different reasons. Graduation rates help kids choose community colleges and tier 3 universities.
Where’s CU’s version of Clay Travis when you need to get a hire reversed?
