Mark Wetmore OUT

Just now I see as the coaching staff:

Brock Brockman, Casey and Lindsay Malone as assistant coaches, Karen Lechman as Director of Operations and Jenny Simpson and Brandon Johnson as Coaches.

No one has the title of head coach.
that is under track and field. The cross country page has different coaches with Simpson Val and Micaela D.

I didn't realize they are two separate sports.

Lindsey Malone is off to some Big 12 meeting called Big 12 Beyond Borders.

I could see Lindsey becoming the head coach of the whole thing and then hiring somebody like Simpson to coach the distances. I am really hoping they can get somebody like the the NC State cross country coach. She had won a couple of Nattys. Could give her a chance to run her own program

Not official yet, but thestridereport.com is usually accurate about these things.

Welcome, congrats and best wishes to Coach Carlson!

Letsrun.com also has a (free) article on his hiring - https://www.letsrun.com/news/2024/0...ield-cross-country-at-university-of-colorado/

His Tennessee roster page - https://utsports.com/sports/track-and-field/roster/coaches/sean-carlson/5213
(Looks like he has been the head distance running coach at Tennessee (after holding that position (for the men only) at Notre Dame), so it looks like this is a promotion to managing the whole CU program.)

Wow! I did not realize Wetmore is done at CU. I knew there had been some issues with him but wow!

I know nothing about the new guy but his rez looks great. I feel like Mark just held on a couple of years too long.

Mark did stay too long. After the allegations came out, he was done even though many Buff alumni came out in support of him and the program. It was over.

I just can’t imagine what a punch in the gut it must be, at 71 years old, having given so much of your life to something and have such great success, to have it end ignominiously.

But we don’t know the details. Maybe they offered him an option of going out on his own terms and he balked. Who knows?

he also quit recruiting in the last several years and his team finished worse then they ever have under his career. He is still coaching pro athletes, but he needed to go. CU was in a fairly steep decline in the last several years
