SOCCER (9-2-2 overall; 3-1-1 in the Big 12), now ranked #24 nationally (the same as the volleyball team), has a somewhat rare 1 match week as they host the Arizona State Sun Devils (ASU; 9-2-2, 2-2-1) this Friday night.

As was true both last season and so far this season, streams should be available for all home matches and road conference matches for those with a premium ($) ESPN+ subscription. (See more details and links near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

Match notes (If blank below, they weren't available as I type this.) -

As I've stated in previous threads, starting a few weeks ago, figured I'd start noting a couple other ratings (in addition to RPI that I've noted for years) that are publically available (as of 10/7/25):
RPI (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa-womens-soccer-rpi ) - CU is at #24 (up from #26) while ASU is #44.
KPI (https://faktorsports.com/. Note that to get these numbers I had to select various options to obtain these numbers.) - CU is at #26 (up from #27) while ASU is #37.
Massey ((from https://masseyratings.com/csocw/ncaa-d1/ratings) - CU is at #24 (up from #25) while ASU is #35.

(From what I read in the Volleytalk forum, RPI AND KPI (Kevin Pauga Index) are the only 2 ratings that the NCAA selection committees use for tourney selection in that sport. (The AI in a Google search also says the soccer committee DOES also use KPI.) Then, the Massey rankings, which are the only other free ratings I know of, are considered more accurate (then at least RPI) in evaluating a team's quality as they factor in things like scores and home vs. away results, which RPI doesn't. Note that with soccer being farther along in its season, we do now have RPI ratings for this season, so all the below are for the current season.)

Also, since it will determine seedings when the Big 12 tournament begins, wanted to note the conference standings (https://big12sports.com/standings.aspx?path=soc ). With the top 8 teams at the end of the regular season qualifying for the tourney, CU is currently in sole possession of 5th place with 10 points. (Texas Tech is in 1st with 13 points, and the 2 teams tied for 9th have 6 points. So, with 6 matches left, NOTHING is off the table conference-wise.)

No. 24 Colorado Back at Home vs Arizona State

The Buffs take on the Sun Devils on Friday

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

BOULDER —
The newly-minted No. 24 Colorado Buffaloes return home this week to take on Arizona State Friday night at Prentup Field (7 p.m.).

The Buffs (9-2-2, 3-1-1) cracked the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 for the first time this season, following their upset win over then No.7 TCU and a closely contested loss to No. 20 Baylor. The Buffs were ranked for six weeks last season, climbing as high as No. 14. Colorado has been ranked in every season but two since the 2016 season, but received votes in those years (2020 & 2021).

The Black & Gold bounced back from its only other loss this season at Wisconsin with a 2-0 win over Denver. The Buffs were 2-0-2 last season following a loss and haven't lost back-to-back matches since falling to Arizona and No. 1 UCLA on Oct. 14 and Oct. 20, 2023.

Friday night is a reunion of sorts between the Buffs and Sun Devils. The two former Pac-12 foes will play as members of the Big 12 Conference for the first time. The two schools did not meet last season in their foray into the Big 12. The last time the two sides met, the Buffs scored four second-half goals to upset No. 18 Arizona State on Senior Day in 2023.

Emerson Layne led the Buffs last week, scoring in both matches in Texas. She recorded the game-winning goal at TCU and had the equalizing tally against the Bears. The senior forward has career-highs in goals (5) and points (15) this season.

Colorado has four players listed in Top Drawer Soccer's (TDS) Midseason Top 100 list on Thursday. Junior Hope Leyba was the highest-rated Buff, listed at No. 3. Leyba leads the NCAA in goals this season, totaling 14 in the Buffs' 13 games. She has twice recorded hat tricks this season, becoming the first CU player with multiple hat tricks in the same season.

Sophomore Jace Holley was ranked No. 25. Holley sits 14th in the nation with nine goals this season and is second in the Big 12 with 22 total points. Goalkeeper Jordan Nytes was three spots back at No. 28. The reigning 2024 Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year ranks second in the Big 12 with 53 saves and 4.08 saves per game. She's third in the conference with a .855 save %. Faith Leyba rounded out the group at No. 75. She leads all field players with 1,091 minutes played this season, helping the team to four shutouts this season.

Arizona State (9-2-2, 2-2-1) split last week with Cincinnati and West Virginia on the road. The Sun Devils picked up a 1-0 win over the Bearcats to open the week and dropped a 2-0 result at WVU to bookend the trip. ASU has not lost back-to-back regular-season matches in nearly a calendar year after dropping the final two games of the 2024 regular season.

And, as is also noted in the above quoted article, congrats to Hope Leyba for being ranked as the #3 college player in the country by Topdrawersoccer's mid-season rankings!
