BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's volleyball team begins Pac-12 play this week with a road trip to Utah Thursday at 7 p.m. before hosting Arizona State Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Buffaloes (8-2) are coming off a reverse sweep of CSU Friday evening that resulted in head coach Jesse Mahoney's 100th win and second-straight Golden Spike Trophy.
...

Both matches will be streamed on the Pac-12 Network, with Sunday's match on Pac-12 Insider. Colorado will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX Sunday against the Sun Devils.

UTAH
The Utes (7-4) are receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches' Poll and are 3-2 at home this season. Three of Utah's four losses came in multiple sets against ranked teams in Kansas, Purdue and San Diego. The team also fell to in-state rival BYU last Thursday in four sets. Madelyn Robinson leads the outside with 143 kills, averaging 4.21 per set while hitting .260. Libero Vanessa Ramirez is against 4.16 digs per set while KJ Burgess holds down the front with 1.27 blocks per set.

ARIZONA STATE
ASU (6-6) is coming into Boulder without a road win in three tries. The Sun Devils have losses to Toledo, Georgia Tech, CSU, Baylor, SMU and Texas Tech. Arizona State did defeat a similar opponent in FIU in four sets.

ASU is led by Iman Isanovic with 150 kills alongside Marta Levinska with 143. They are a strong serving team averaging 1.66 aces per set with five athletes with double-digit aces. Jaden Ravnsborg leads the team with 3.3 digs per set, while upfront it is a split duty with four athletes with 21 or more blocks.

good match by the buffs. Finally got a road win. Now cant waste a road win by losing at home to ASU on sunday

I'm out of town so had to watch on Sling on my computer. For whatever reason. the broadcast only had sound for the commercials. It had to be at Sling's end since the commercials had sound and I had sound an hour earlier for a Zoom call. I have sound this morning.

Now to beat ASU!

Tough Buff serving (if I counted right, believe Perry alone had 4 aces) along with Hadrych having her most productive set in awhile leads to a 25-18 1st set win.

With ASU coming off a big win over their rival Wildcats earlier this week, and the Arizona schools having helped killed CU's post-season hopes last season (the Buffs went 0-4 against them even though all 3 had roughly the same RPI), I was nervous about this one. So, a little extra sweet to have such a convincing win.

Way to go Buffs!

BOULDER — Colorado women's volleyball took down Arizona State in three sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) here Sunday afternoon to open up conference play with back-to-back sweeps.

The Buffaloes (10-2, 2-0 Pac-12) dominated the Sun Devils (7-7, 1-1 Pac-12) allowing only 25 kills on 110 attacks to improve their record at home to 7-0 this season.

Lexi Hadrych and Meegan Hart impressed offensively as they combined for 27 of the team's 49 total kills. Hadrych led all players in kills with 14 while Hart finished with 13. Hart continued her efficient play recording her season-high in hitting percentage with .706 bringing her season average up to .500. This weekend she averaged a hitting percentage of .655 and it is her third straight match while hitting over .583.

Savannah Perry served well for CU as she had four of the team's six service aces, three of which came consecutively. Taylor Simpson totaled 29 assists which were eight more than the entire Arizona State team.

Colorado didn't allow a single ASU player to reach double figures in kills, holding the Sun Devils to a hitting percentage of just .100. The Buffaloes' defense continued their great play this season with 60 digs compared to Arizona State's 39.

With the win today, CU joins Oregon as the only two teams in the Pac-12 to start off conference play 2-0 thus far, with Washington having an opportunity to join them tonight against UCLA.

Colorado women's volleyball will travel to Los Angeles next week to take on USC on September 30th and UCLA on October 2nd.

QUOTES
Head Coach Jesse Mahoney

On 2-0 Start in Conference Play
"Yeah, as we know the conference can be a buzzsaw at times, and every team you're going to play every weekend is very good. I thought that Arizona State coming in after just taking care of Arizona and having the talent that they have, I thought it would be a very good challenge for us and obviously, it was. I'm really happy with what we did from a defensive standpoint. Serving and defense were particularly good today and our players had a game plan and they followed it really well. Then on top of that, we had some really efficient attacking, especially out of the middle today, so a really good start to the season and get to go on the road to LA next week and we'll need to continue to get better but happy with where we are, at this point."

On Ever Having A Player Hit 500
"This is going be anti-climatic but yes I have. However, it is super rare and Meegan's being a little humble. She's really worked herself. She came here a great player and to her credit, she's gotten better every season and really playing at a high level right now, and as efficient as I've seen. She's still got a little bit of ceiling she can hit these next couple of months and I'm excited for her to get there."

On the Upcoming LA Trip
"Yeah, I think every weekend is a challenge, especially on the road and so we're going to take a day off. We've done a really nice job of taking care of our bodies and practicing at a pretty high level which is hard to do. It takes a lot of work to do that, especially on your off days even. We've been practicing pretty heavy and at a high level as well. We get a couple of days of work in on Tuesday and Wednesday and prepare for two teams that actually play a little bit different styles, so we have to get ready for that. But a 2-0 start is a great place to be at and hopefully, we can build on it."

Congrats to Ms. Hart! (These awards are often funny, as I'd assume a BIG part of her receiving the award was her GREAT offensive stats this weekend, and yet because middle blocker is predominantly thought of as a defensive position, she earned the defensive award.)

Note - In addition to the above, per a poster on the Volleytalk forum, Meegan is now leading NCAA D1 in kill % for the season at .500. (This looks right, although the NCAA stats (https://www.ncaa.com/stats/volleyball-women/d1/current/individual/1), at least as I type this, show her in 2nd. I'm assuming they just haven't updated for yesterday's match, as CU's stats (https://cubuffs.com/sports/womens-volleyball/stats/2022 ) do confirm the .500 percentage.)
