VOLLEYBALL (15-12, 6-12 in the Pac 12) ends their season*** with 2 final opportunities to face off against 2 of the best the Pac 12 has to offer, with the Buffs celebrating their seniors on Senior Day with a matchup against the #12 Huskies (22-4, 15-3) coming into Boulder for a matinee match tomorrow, followed up with a short road trip to end the season against the #17 Utes (19-8, 12-6).
(***Don't know if they'd be asked, but there actually is a NIT-like post-season volleyball tournament below the NCAA Championships called the NIVC (https://www.womensnivc.com/). However, I don't believe any Pac 12 team has chosen to participate in this tourney (which started in 2017) in the past, so assume the Buffs would probably (???) decline even if asked.)

Go Buffs!

Vs. Utah - Match is scheduled to be shown live on the Pac 12 Mountain channel. For those whose Cable/ Satellite/ Cord Cutting subscription includes access to that Pac 12 channel, assume it can also be streamed through a link at https://pac-12.com/womens-volleyball/event/2021/11/27/colorado-utah .

With two ranked teams left on the schedule, we will most likely have two more losses.

This team is beat up enough physically that my guess (that's all it is as I have absolutely no inside knowledge) would be CU would turn down a post season invite since it isn't the NCAA tournament.

Todays "this week in CU volleyball"

seems to tell us that Meegan Hart and Brynna DiLuzio are planning on taking advantage of their Covid years and are returning next year since they are also seniors.

The announcer on the last match said Brynna was returning. Did not mention Meegan but that's good news. Also said Taylor is graduating in December.

Preview article now out. (Re the above discussion, It also lists DeProsse, Ewert and Neverdowski as the 3 being celebrated on Senior Day.)

BOULDER – Colorado women's volleyball team closes out the 2021 regular season this week with a pair of top-25 matchups, first at home against No.12-ranked Washington for senior day Wednesday at 1 p.m., followed by a trip to face No.17-ranked Utah Saturday at noon.

The Buffaloes (15-12, 6-12 Pac-12) are currently ninth in the Pac-12 standings and can move up a position with two wins this weekend.

CU will honor three graduating seniors tomorrow, Jenna Ewert, Zoe Neverdowski and Taylor deProsse as they play in their final home match. The three have combined for 54 wins in four seasons and one NCAA Tournament appearance.
...

Wednesday's match will be streamed on the CU Live Stream, while Saturday's finale will be on the Pac-12 Networks.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington (22-4, 15-3 Pac-12) is in a deadlock with UCLA atop the Pac-12 standings but needs help to secure the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The teams split their season matchups but UCLA has a slight lead based on sets won in the standings against the Huskies. They have won six straight and won nine straight before their matchup against UCLA on the road that ended in a sweep. Since that loss, they have only let up a single set at Stanford but have swept both Arizona schools, Cal and both Oregon schools.

The Huskies are hitting an outstanding .284 hitting percentage this season and are allowing less than a service ace per set. Their two-headed monster on the outsides are Samantha Drechsel averaging 3.41 kills per set and Claire Hoffman at 3.72 kills per set and 4.37 points per set. Hoffman has 34 aces this season to lead the team, one more than setter Ella May Powell. They have four total athletes with 23 or more aces.

SCOUTING THE UTES
Utah (19-8, 12-6 Pac-12) is coming off a four-set loss to Stanford at home. Prior to that they had won four straight. They are 10-3 at home this season with losses to ASU, Stanford and UCLA.

They are also allowing less than an ace per set and are hitting .257 this season. Dani Drews is trying to repeat as Pac-12 Player of the Year and has 496 kills this season, averaging more than five per set while hitting .270. She is also second on the team with 27 aces as six Utes have 19 or more service aces. In the first matchup Colorado held Drews to -.029 hitting, the only time this season she has been limited to negative hitting.

Pretty ugly set leads to an easy 1st set Husky win, 17-25. (The Huskies are noted for being a very tough serving team, and I think CU gave up more aces than they were able to give our server decent passes from which to start any offense.)

MUCH more like it as tough serving by the Buffs, along with improved defense, leads to a tie match as the Buffs get the 2nd set 25-21!

Buffs can't hold a decent sized late lead, and lose the 3rd 24-26.

Still great to see the team playing some of its best ball of the season the last couple of sets.

A few too many errors popped up in the 4th set, and the Huskies get the match with a 19-25 final set.

Buffs playing well, but Utah played better in the 1st set. (Their defending Pac 12 Player of the Year had a ridiculous 9 kills.)

Buffs tie it up with a 25-19 2nd set!

(Pac 12 Broadcast showing the Utah AD announcing their team just received a $1 million endowment to fund their head coaching position.)

Utah kept its level of play up, while the Buffs had way too many loose points, leading to the Utes taking the 3rd easily 12-25.

The Buffs play a solid 4th set, earning, I believe, a 6 point lead early on, but the Utes come back and get the match after a 22-25 4th set win.

Thanks so much to the 3 seniors who have played their last vball with Colorado.

Feel the team played some of its best ball these last 2 matches, they were just going against 2 of the top teams in the Pac 12. 2 Young Buffs, freshman Jahara Campbell and sophomore Alexia Kuehl, looked VERY solid this weekend, so many positive signs to take forward to the next season.
