MBB GAME THREAD - CU vs. Arizona St. | Feb. 13th @8:30pm | FS1

4 straight wins! Evened the conference record amd pulled to 1.5 games out of second place.

And i made it through the end of the game, rolled in the house a bit after midnight and still made my 4AM work call this morning! Strategic pre-game nap FTW!

Fun game to watch. I know it was a late game, but it didn't look like a lot of butts were in the seats.

Students were bribed with breakfast tacos to show up?

I feel like the Buffs grade last night was in the “B” range. They can and need to play better. For instance, Bey was great but at the same time he missed two fairly easy layups, failed to block out on a rebound that ASU scored on and muffed another rebound. Siewert played poorly. He missed several wide open threes and had a couple of head scratch inducing turnovers. Even Kin had a couple of bad turnovers.

Those are just a few examples. I know those things happen in the course of every game and perfection is an impossible standard to achieve. But if you eliminate just a few mental errors and/or players shoot close to their average, then a 4 point lead becomes a 10 point lead.

Is it bad that I was cracking up when Cherry was rolling around on the floor after getting bulldozed by Battey? Once I saw the replay and saw him take the knee to the solar plexus, and knew he was going to be fine, I could not stop laughing. Bunch of drama queens on the scum devil roster.

While I grumbled about the late start, I was glad I was there to see a gutsy win. The Buffs didn't play so well, but getting a win with about TWO bench players in the second half (injuries, foul trouble) was remarkable. Players played hard even when missing open looks and such.

Here's what happened:
Pac-12 Refs happened.
Total bull**** call.

Tad Boyle agrees.
Heard and seen on-air: "Bull**it call, Kevin...bulls**t call..."
That would be Kevin Brill once again mucking things up in Boulder.
I'm loving Boyle's passion. I thought this team was dead, dead, dead...but he's lit a spark.

Those refs were spineless. They let Hurley AND Boyle walk all over them. Lots of bad calls, no calls, and make-up calls. I suppose if you’re equally bad for both teams it kind of evens out, right?

Bobby Hurley is a little bitch.

Fun game. Too bad the crowd wasn’t bigger.

"There's a reason that McKinley Wright was going to be a possible player of the year candidate coming into the season and Tyler Bey," ASU coach Bobby Hurley said. "Those two sophomores … whoa, they got something with those two."
He got that right! Kin's 3 pt form is good and Tylers mechanics are good so if they improve on that in the off season look out (of course that could mean an early exit to the League). It would be nit picking to say those 2 could play much better right now. And Battey for half was awesome. Now if we could get more consistency from one or more of Lucas, D.Shawn, and Shane...

ASU had no answer for Battey. He was backing down defenders the entire first half. Sucked when he went down. Kid is a monster.

One thing I noticed, the half-court O was a lot smoother than I've seen at other times this year. They were getting good looks damn near every possession, if they didn't turn it over.

We need like 1 1/2 of Siewart, Schwartz, Gatling, Battey and Kountz to be "on" offensively any given night to win. Everybody needs to play defense every night, though.

Yes and no. They had a couple shot clock violations and one prayer 3 pointer at the buzzer.

Oh yeah, and after watching Strating play, the guy is a stiff. He literally fell over backwards trying to guard a guy. I thought Kin was going to murder him right there on the court a couple times.

I agree, with the assumption that we get consistent production from Kin and Bey. Due to shooting funks, injuries and foul trouble we haven't gotten this over the course of the season. But, yeah, all things being equal this team is really hard to beat if we get a 3rd guy from that next group scoring in the 15-20 range and another guy giving an efficient double figure scoring night.

I want / need a video of Battey running over the 2 ASU defenders, throwing down a "dunk" 5 feet from the basket. That was the most awesome play I've seen in a long, long time.

Kid is a MONSTER, hope his back gets better quick.

How?

a bit random, but what is Tomlinson's role again?

was hot and cold on him as a player...but love what I've seen from his presence on the bench, hope him and English can turn into dynamic recruiters these next few seasons

he specializes in coaching how to shoot the 3-ball just inside the half court line :D

Think of it like a coaching internship. He's not an assistant who can go on the road recruiting, but he can do all the on-campus recruiting stuff, prepare game plans and assist with practices.

I always liked him as a player. He could be damn frustrating at times with turnovers, ill-advised shots, etc. ... but I always respected his intensity. If some of that rubs off on the players, that will be great.
