Men's basketball - 2021 March Madness Selection Sunday (Selection show on CB beginning at 4:00 PM MT; #5 seed Buffs open up against Georgetown)

Lol... I just found out there are actually people out there mad that Belmont got "snubbed" from the NCAA tourney "despite winning 26 games."

They were 90th in NET with a 0-1 record in Q1/Q2 games (yes, they only played one Q2 game all year, which they lost), and were 104th on KenPom. They had somewhere around the 300th most difficult SOS all year.

If you're a small-conference team like Belmont, you better either schedule really tough and show out or win your tourney. Playing DeVry University 30 times and winning 26 of those is not an impressive resume.

Belmont got snubbed by the NIT as well, they were in the NIT's "first four out".

I keep hearing all the smart money is on the hoyas. To me the 5 point spread shows the opposite> I'd probably bet he Buffs win by 3.
The public money is favoring the Hoyas which is expected but the money percentage is pretty even, slightly to the Hoyas. As we get closer we'll see where the smart action goes.

I’m confused by your assessment. There was one move from -4 to -5. The first smart bets were on Colorado. The dollars action has been even since. I think the line is super sharp. Most NCAAB sharps I know like the game to come down to the last 1-3 possessions, so 5 seems very sharp.
I thought the odds were based on the money bet. If all the smart money was backing the hoyas, they'd be the favorites. That's it.

The odds are based upon the amount of money wagered in addition to the sportsbook’s handicapping. The line’s only moved once with relatively even dollars on the current line. We don’t know what will happen until we see the closing money as we get closer to tip. I’d venture to say that the current line is too sharp and unbettable.

Georgetown is hot. But, CU has the better talent and depth. If they play like we know they’re capable of, I could see a ten point plus win.

my money is on the Buffs!

also, my neighbor is a Georgetown grad, so this will be an interesting game to watch with her.

GO BUFFS!

Shoulder to Shoulder!

However it's figured, source-authority "Vegas Insider", shows the opening line at 4, now at 6. I think the talking heads are east coast, ewing people.

A fun article from the hoyas:

The line still being single digits is an indicator of how close these teams are perceived. A single basket line move in the NCAA tournament between a top 25 team and a team with a barely better than .500 record is astounding.

the question is which part of the linemaking is dominant: what they think of the teams or what they think of the public's view of the teams?

There’s so much liquidity with March Madness, especially in early games where you have millions of people firing. Only sharp money is making these moves in the end, though.

As I’ve said, every NCAAB sharp I know thinks Colorado wins in a close one (i.e. a 2-3 possession game). I conjecture some of the line movement may be to help get some Gtown action to counteract ML parlays.

I like CU by 3 or 4 and think 6 is probably too much. Oops: just checked Bovada, they have CU -6.5. I bet $20 on the Buffs to win by 6 or less.

Good luck!
Thanks. I'd happily say goodbye to $20, if we were to win by 10.

Players upset. This referenced the opening banquet they should have had:

"Perhaps then the players would've been happy.

Instead, it was boxed lunches.

Or fast food.

I actually know one team that had a warm breakfast served cold with no utensils. So they didn't even have forks to eat their chilly eggs. And that's when resentment set in. Soon thereafter, players started publicly complaining about the fact that the NCAA is on the verge of cashing a $900 million check because of an event they'll compete in for no compensation, which led to complaints about the fundamentally unfair name, image and likeness rules that remain in place, which led to a hashtag (#NotNCAAProperty) trending on Twitter that became the biggest topic in the sport 24 hours before the start of the NCAA Tournament."
