National Semifinals thread

Didn't catch tell references. Why don't you want games on NYE? Whats the role.of the Rose Bowl here and why do they need to be strong armed to move other bowl games to a different day?

Edit: Google got me the Rose Bowl info, so nm that. Don't get why games on NYE is idiotic though -- go out tonight, set your DVR and then wakeup Saturday morning, hungover, to six hours of meaningful college football. Sounds like heaven to me!

NYE isn´t a federal holiday over there so some people on the East Coast and pretty much the entire West Coast won´t be home for the kickoff of the early game (4pm Eastern), most have something else to do (like go out maybe) and the games run past midnight for me and possibly even on the East Coast when I see that most college games last roughly 4 hours these days. The Rose Bowl´s birth right to the 2pm Pacific slot on New Year´s Day is the reason they can´t put the semifinals on NYD unless the Rose Bowl is the site of one. There´re several options here and pretty much every single one is better than playing those games on NYE.

- Make the Rose Bowl a permanent semi final site
- Strong arm the Rose Bowl into rescheduling unless it´s hosting a semi final
- Make the semis a permanent fixture for the Saturday before Week 17 of the NFL (and play the championship game the following Monday)

But don´t ****ing schedule them for NYE when pretty much everybody has something better to do. Last year was great, why ****ing change it?

TV will do what TV does. And thats picking times that are stoopid because they hope people will watch. Hell, you can DVR it and watch it on the morning of the first at your leisure.

ESPN tried to get them moved.

Back in the day, the big bowls didn't have time slots to themselves. The Rose and Fiesta Bowls generally played concurrently, as did the Orange and Sugar.

If the Rose Bowl absolutely has to have that spot and they're not a semifinal, put them on ESPN while a semifinal game is on ABC. Which game do you think most would watch?

Yeah, I remember those days. TV Heaven. Sometimes we had two TVs set up.

Now they all are trying to find an exclusive time slot. Back then it was also more about attracting people to buy the tickets and sit in the seats. Most bowls got their start when the local chambers of commerce were trying to figure out ways to attract tourists to warm and sunny climates. My how things have changed.

It's Amateur Night anyway ... do yourself a favor and stay in, stay safe, and watch football. That's my plan.

join the DVR age and free the rest of your life from being bound by TV schedules.
Sports recordings doesn't work for me, either. Especially if it doesn't include a team I care about. It's a combination of the excitement of knowing it is happening right now, and being able to text friends/come to allbuffs and have a discussion as it's happening.

I felt that way eight years ago, but got over it quickly once I started getting in the DVR habit.

I understand the fun of participating in live threads or twitter or whatever, but that is miniscule compared to the fun of attending a NYE concert and still being able to watch the games without knowing the end.

I don't really use the DVR much. Live or on demand for me.

The games start at 1pm here. I took a day off of work so I can watch them. That sucks.

Going out on New Year's is the most overrated experience out there. Much rather stay at home and hang out with friends and family. Plus, as has been stated there are a lot of drunk morons out there.
